I established a temporary dwelling in this area that's quite inhabited. I prefer a bit of solitude, so I pitch my tent a bit further away. Unfortunately, during a brief departure to attend to some matters, my belongings were pilfered. Quite a disappointing experience!

Camped overnight, was informed that there was no camping by a ranger in the morning

One of the most filthy dispersed camping spots we’ve stayed at. The big pile of trash at the entrance did get picked up while we were here however every spot had trash around it. We picked a spot tried to clean up the trash as much as we could (copiers, box spring mattresses???, inflatable pool??) and tossed it. This could be such a pretty area because there are lots of spots but people seem to have no respect. Quiet during the week, shooting and 4 wheelers on the weekend.

I only went a mile past the y. There are several designated parking spots that are super easy to negotiate. The road had some washboard and was hard packed sand. There were some ruts left over from some past rain. I seemed to be all alone on a Friday night. Maybe the ohv's were off in the distance, but they always seem to quit by full dark. Despite the signs encouraging people to not leave garbage and garbage cans provided, previous visitors had been lass than careful. At the entrance there was a cabana where many bags of garbage had been left., as if everyone who had visited for the last six months deemed the cabana to be a landfill and could not read the no littering signs. It stunk. I doubt that they were members of the campendium community, because this was the first place I have seen like this. I pledge to be diligent about Leavei no trace. In the parking area I chose, there were bullet holes in the no littering signs and the provided garbage can was overflowing with beer cans. The idea of drunk people with guns unsettled me, but it was quiet all night and I slept well.

Area littered with trash and spent firearm cartridges, but doesn’t have an unsafe feel to it. Military jets continually fly overhead and are fairly loud. If that bothered you. No campfires allowed. Strong AT&T cell service. If you’re just passing through and are looking for a free place to overnight, this is fine. As another poster mentioned, when you hit the Y in the road, make a left. Numerous places to camp, easy to find.

Loved this spot. If you don’t mind a 15 minute drive, head further back into the BLM land by the small hill where there’s less people. Good cell signal, pretty quiet area. There are a few hunters on the weekend, but if you camp further off the main road, you’ll avoid them.

The road in is good with minor washboarding. You will come to a Y in the road around +/- 1/4 mile, go left. There are many side roads off the main dirt road and I typically stayed less than 2 miles down the main dirt road so not sure how the rest of the main road is and how many places to stay. The side roads I stayed off were good areas with minor slopping. Noise is minimum but at times OHVs come by but it’s only a couple. It didn’t bother me. Other campers keep to themselves. I’ve heard gun shots 3 times since I’ve been here but doesn’t bother me. They normally fire off a dozen or less rounds and they’re done. Cell service is around 2-3 bars for ATT. No amenities at this location.

We camped right next to the mountain and there’s a LOT of people who come out to target shoot toward the mountain even though it’s posted all over the place that it’s not allowed. We even had one person shoot sideways instead of toward the mountain. It’s a beautiful spot and right next to the river but next time we will find a spot further away from this mountain everyone shoots toward because it doesn’t seem too safe lol My husband has to keep telling people there’s no shooting allowed. There’s also a lot of side by sides and atvs but that’s to be expected in a location like this and didn’t bother us.

To get to the camping spots, you have to follow an easy and well maintained dirt road for a mile or two. The spot is a little tricky to find as there is no camping in the Robbins Butte wildlife game preserve itself, and the BLM is down the same road but to the left. There is no sign separating the BLM from the R.B., but these coordinates mark the entrance to the BLM (GPS: 33.311217, -112.632949). There was active hunting in the nearby preserve when I was camping there, but the hunters usually left when it got dark. Since the Gila River is nearby, the area is extraordinarily rich in wildlife for a desert.
