About Karoo Gariep Tented Camp

The Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve is the home of the only hippos in the Northern Cape; the Karoo hippos. In addition to this there are also some 200 bird species. The Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve Tented Camp is situated halfway between Johannesburg, Cape Town, Upington and the Garden Route making it an ideal stopover. The N1, N9 and N10 national routes run past us. The tents are a new addition to the range of accommodation on the reserve. The tents are situated on the Western / sunset side of the New Holme Karoo Guest Farm gardens. Under the shade of old Tamarisk trees and overlooking the Karoo Plains and spectacular sunsets only 100 meters from the unique Seekoei River. The tents are equipped with one double bed and two single beds in two separate sections. Linen and towels are provided. We encourage you to dine in our restaurant on site. You are encouraged to make use of the pool, braai and bar area. We do sundowner hippo drives, night drives and walks to Koi Sun engravings. We like a slow pace, peace and quiet, stars, wind in the trees, nature, birds, good food and wine and white linen. We don’t like a fast pace, radios, TV, noise, drunk people and loud noise. The camp is the perfect home to explore the area from with Nieu Bethesda and Graaff-Reinet in one day’s range. New Holme, Mieliefontein and Wolmado Karoo Guest Farms are situated in the Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve.
