We stayed here 8-1 to 8-8. Small campground on a hill. Steep drive in, sites are large and for the most part well spaced apart. Bathrooms spotless and they have a covered kitchen area with dishwashing station. Several pit toilets which are also spotless. Great hikes up to North and South peaks, strenuous. Nice grassy beach and boat launch, firewood is good and dry. Quiet.

Really enjoyed the South Mtn to North Mtn hike. A bit strenuous, but 2.3 miles from camp site takes about 90 min. Kayaked lake, a bit small, only 2.5 miles to do perimeter but easy boat launch. You get a nice view of the Twin Peaks from the lake. The central shower/bathrooms were excellent. Did get a pic of a bear on my critter cam on one of the nearby trails. However, there is no dump site at the campground and using the nearby commercial RV park would be $25 to dump, which is quite a negative in my mind.

Maine's first state park and the first state park we stayed in while in Maine. First night was so nice we moved to #25 to stay a 3rd. Ranger at the booth was very helpful and informative. At this point we haven't met the camp hosts at site 1. Sites 25 and 26 have good solar exposure in mid July. Sites are firm packed gravel. As we parked on the site we added 4" however one could find a level contour line as the site is that wide. Sites are well spaced out. View is into the wooded hillside and behind site 29. Uphill one looks toward #25 across 50' of sparce understory growth beneath maturing mixed forest species. We enjoyed identifying the birds, some we needed the guide books for 👍

Nicely maintained, lots of large families with children when we were there (the lake is a draw). There are 5 electric sites, 3 of which are first come first serve. We were able to move to one of them for our second night. Of course because it is wooded there are lots of bugs!
