Several spots for larger rigs - we found one close to entrance/road that worked for our 31’ - to get to spots next to creek would have to go over some rough dips/ridges in road. Beautiful setting in between sone nice peaks / great hiking trails up to mountain lakes. Just 7m from Silverton

After leaving Gunnison area we headed here. Rte 550 is absolutely stunning. There’s a pretty sharp right turn to come to this area but once down here there were a couple spots. We arrived about 12:30 on a Sunday. Pretty busy. Definitely recommend

We spent 2 nights at 2 different spots in Kendall Campground. We enjoyed both. Loved the soothing sound of the creek flowing - great for sleeping in our roof top tent. We had decent Verizon cell service which was a huge plus! The only thing that would’ve made it better is if the toilet has been open. We were there in early June and it still had a note saying “Closed For Season”. Luckily we had our portable with us. And people who came in after us blocked the drive for us to get out of our spot the next morning.

This is one of I believe five campgrounds off of Rt. 7/585 and is the first one you come to. It will be on the left side of the road. It is a large area, with various nooks; some established camping spots carved into trees and then just open camping in the other areas. Part of the area runs up against a creek. We were here over the holiday weekend, so I'm thinking it was extra crowded, as the town does a big 4th of July celebration. Over the weekend, we were almost as close to our neighbors as a traditional RV park, but it wasn't as crowded the week before the holiday so had a little more space. For as crowded as it was, it was pretty quiet. Room for any size rig and there were many who had additional trailers with 4x4's, etc. There is a pit toilet, but didn't use it so can't speak to the cleanliness. The main road (7/585) is dusty and was busy as the are other campgrounds are farther down the road. We pulled off as soon as we turned off the road and went exploring to find a spot, so there is a space to park before you go down the road. The other campgrounds, Anvil, Sultan are a lot smaller but run next to a stream. There is sporadic camping spots along the main road, mostly suitable for tenters or small campers, but there are a few spots that can accommodate a 30ft'ish rig. There's another campground past Sultan and it had quite a few large rigs in it and then at the end of (the non 4x4) road is Mineral Campground, which is a pay campground. We had decent cell, both Verizon and AT&T, however two days into our stay, the AT&T tower crashed so AT&T cell was nonexistent the remainder of our stay. (It's supposed to get fixed, so hopefully that was temporary). The town of Silverton is really cute and quaint. There is one gas station and one small grocery store, so stock up.

The most amazing place to be. We came the day after Mother’s Day and had the entire camp to ourselves. It is breathtaking. Views of the mountains and a beautiful creek running in between.

We stayed one night, there were a lot of other campers. This is right next to the Sultan and Anvil campgrounds which were all full. Next morning a very nice National Forest officer came knocking on our door. Evidently the entire area is temporarily closed due to a flood risk but someone had stolen all the signs. It will reopen after the snow up above has melted enough and the flood risk is gone.

Beautiful area. We were just passing through and thought we would update the reviews. The road is dry and accessible. Verizon was 6.5down and 6 up

There are a variety of sites to choose from depending on your setup. I've been camping here with a tent or 4runner for years and now a 25' trailer. The sites closer to the road are smaller but forested, the sites closer to the river are large and open. The river area tends to be pretty packed all week and the whole area is busy on weekends. It's usually quiet when I'm here but this year there's been a number of trailers running loud contractor generators very late and early. You can get a number of very odd folks here as well as those who trash their site. I try to pick up what I can so we don't lose access or have it turn into a fee site.

OK, at first we intended to stay like 2 nights at this location. It looked nice from the pictures, but pictures were nowhere close to reality. This place is gorgeous!!! And in the end we stayed 8 days. If we could we would stay longer. :) The entire "campground" is large and can accommodate easily 30 (maybe more) RVs. The surface is not very level and covered in pebbles, but the access road is really well maintained. It was easy to get there with our 32' tt.

We camped here 3 years ago and fell in love! We decided to come to Silverton on a whim and couldn't get reservations for any of the campgrounds in town so we found Kendall Campground. We loved camping right next to the river, we fished, let the dogs play and met some amazing people from different states. Hoping to come back this weekend.

Our spot in this free campground was amazing. Most of the pictures you see are of RV's in the circle near the creek. That's okay, but we were able to get a site between some trees that gave us beautiful shade during the day. There were even better sites for tents and smaller RV's -- it's worth it to drive into the nooks and crannies of this campground (as long as you are sure you can back out easily). While we were there, the county was in a fire ban; not even charcoal grills were allowed. The biggest consequence for us? Everything we owned ended up covered in a layer of dust. But it's camping, right?!? If you need to fill your fresh water jug, drive on down the dirt road to Mineral Creek Campground (national forest campground) where they will share up to five gallons with you. It's close enough to Silverton that there is great cell phone coverage. If your looking for a night off from cooking, Avalanche Brewing has great pizza!

I stayed at the Kendall camping area from 7/28 – 7/31 in a 28’ class A. The camping area was packed. I was looking for a spot near the creek but couldn’t get close. Ended up parked between to trees close to the road. There was a lot of traffic on the dirt road so it was noisy and dusty. That being said the area around Silverton is beautiful. Spent my days south of Silverton exploring the areas around Molas Lake, Little Molas Lake and Andrews Lake.

We got here on a Friday morning and only one spot was available for our class A. It’s crowded but everyone here was very friendly! Have great cell signal and easy access to town. We got our water straight from the river.

We had great cell service with att and Verizon! We had a somewhat private Spot, not right on the river but we could see the river from our site just a short walk away! Everyone was friendly! Close to Silverton too!

We took our 23’ trailer here. There are a bunch of RV sites at the entrance, but that area seems to be constantly crowded, on weekends and weekdays. We parked a little deeper into the woods, but it’s a tight squeeze. If you can get away from the crowd, it’s a beautiful camp site. There’s a river nearby. My dog loved swimming in it every day. The nearest garbage dumpster we found was right outside of Silverton (north east of Silverton).

Being close to Silverton and free, it’s about the best you could hope for if you have a big rig like our 36’ pusher. 2020 has been a crazy year, it’s mid-September and Silverton is packed! Lots of rigs came in looking for a spot only to find none. We had to park next to the vault toilet and had a nice couple in a large motorhome ask if they could squeeze in behind us, which was truly the only option left. They moved into our spot when we left the next morning.

We stayed here for a week in late fall. The road in was a little bumpy but very accessible in our campervan pulling a full cargo trailer. The campground is huge, and there was no one there when we arrived, so we picked a private spot in the trees near the creek. There were other campers a few nights, but we had the place to ourselves for the most part. There is a vault toilet, but it was closed for the season. Beautiful mountain views in every direction and only 5 minutes away from town for supplies. A friend that camped with us for one night said that she read on the information board coming into the campground that the creek water has lead runoff from mines upstream, so don't filter the water for drinking unless you have something that removes lead. Elevation is over 9,000 ft, so propane heaters/appliances might not work here. There isn't much wildlife here due to the lead in the water, but we did hear wolves on our last night. Overall, a great camping experience near a rustic mountain town. Would definitely camp here again.
