What a treasure! We lodged at this place for three nights as we toured Custer and Custer State Park. I wish our stay could have been extended. The campground is stunning, filled with many "Giant Pines". I had concerns about navigating our vehicle through the trees to our spot, but our 45' Fifth-Wheel managed it perfectly fine. Our spot was spacious enough for us too. The nights were tranquil, with only a slight hint of road noise during the day. Not a major issue at all! The proprietors and staff genuinely value this campground and are committed to ensuring visitors have a fantastic time. We will certainly return to this place the next time we visit Custer!

A charming, small-scale camping site is located a short distance from Custer's city center. The employees are extremely welcoming and the check-in process is straightforward. The camping spots and restrooms are kept in excellent condition and are spotlessly clean. We were allocated a spot at the very end of the site which was peaceful and offered stunning scenery. There are trails directly accessible from the camping ground that you can explore for several hours if you wish. The wifi is passable. I gave it a 4 for noise, but that's not really the fault of the site. We just happened to have noisy neighbors.

I spent approximately five nights at a campsite without any hookups. The bathrooms are slightly far from the camping grounds, but they are well-maintained and warm. Additionally, there's a place for washing dishes with warm water which I found useful. The campsite offers delivery services for items such as firewood from their small shop to your camping spot. What I enjoyed most was its proximity to national forest trails, making it perfect for unlimited hiking or cycling in the black hills, right next to the camp. Lynn's Dakotamart isn't too far for your grocery needs. The campsite is conveniently located near all the attractions in the Custer region and about a two-hour drive to the badlands. An excellent location!

Very friendly, fun and helpful staff. The campground is on a hill but most of the sites are level. Very tall pine trees shelter most of the campsites. The air feels fresh and clean. The back of the campground abuts the Black Hills National Forest and the views are fantastic. Campsites in the center of the campground are tighter than along the edges and the tent sites are down the hill and feel very secluded. Showers are immaculate and set up wonderfully so that your clothes don't get wet and you can change comfortably. Bathrooms are also very clean. There's a sink set-up to wash your dishes at the bathhouse. The campground office has a great local map and will find out what you're interested in, how long you're staying and then give you advice on where to go. There's so much to do, you could spend a week here. Custer is a very cute town with plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. Make sure to take the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park and drive Needles Highway. If your vehicle is too big to pass through the tunnels carved out of the rock, you can rent UTVs in town. Badlands Ntl Park, Mt. Rushmore, Wind Cave Ntl Park, Air and Space Museum and the Crazy Horse Memorial are all within reach of Big Pine Campground.

We booked 5 nights at Big Pine Campground and loved it here. It’s a perfect location for a base camp to visit the many, many attractions in the area. It’s also a lovely campground. The owner/hosts work hard all day, every day to ensure you have a great experience. The campground has a variety of site types (FHU 50 or 30 amp, W/E only, tent area) and can accommodate everyone from large RV’s to tenters. We were in site #25 which is a 50amp FHU site. There is adequate separation and lots of trees to provide some shade. However, the lack of undergrowth under the pines means there isn’t much real privacy between sites. Although the campground is situated on a hill, our site was very level. You really are nestled among the big pines. After check-in the owner will lead you to your spot and help you get backed in if needed. The campground is well maintained; the laundry facilities were spotless. There is a small game room/arcade and camp store. For just $4 you can get a generous bundle of firewood delivered right to your site. While the campground is conveniently located off of Hwy 16, the road noise is negligible and we were closer to the road than many of the other sites. The campground offers free WiFi which actually works pretty well. I initially had trouble with it dropping my connection and mentioned it at the office. They immediately checked it out and resolved the problem. We had 2 bars of Verizon 4G unboosted. When it came time to leave, there was a weather advisory for 45mpg wind gusts and we opted to stay another night. Luckily our site was available, so we didn’t need to move. There are many camping options in the area – we saw a lot of “RV Resorts” that were just RV parking in an open field which would have been miserable. You can’t go wrong with Big Pines campground!
