Bear Gully Campground

3956, Tarwin Lower
Victoria, Australien

A pleasant but popular foreshore camp, well shaded by banksia and Manna Gum over sand with some short grass.
Sites are informally scattered, most with some scrub between. Overhanging branches on some sites and sandy access tracks may restrict big rigs. Rated 3.8/5 Wrens, honeyeaters, rosellas, whipbirds and gulls are common . Koalas, echidnas and wombats may be seen. No firewood collection permitted (and none nearby). Parks Vic is considering banning wood fires and may close the boat ramp. Bookings may be required. Ranger on-site for 6 months per year. And for those who like to get their feet wet...

Access
This site is accessable by caravans in good weather.

Camped there in Late October 2017. Current fee $26 per night. This is high considering the basic facilities available. Three drop toilets that are well maintained plus one washbasin with a tap that produces a dribble of bore water. I would have hoped that Parks Victoria would have taken the initiative and harvested rainwater from the toilet block roof. Camp sites are generally on the small side and close together. There is water available from a creek 100 metres from the camp but the water is very brown with tannin. I certainly wouldn't cook with it. Acess road is a 5Km recently graded dirt road and in good condition. Being on the Bass Coast the campsite is exposed to south westerly winds and frequent rain squalls.
