I saw the reviews and we planned to camp there until we called. We were told that there was a price increase, and it is now $50.00 a night to dry camp! Yikes!

Fortunate to find this gem. Cool, old, little western town. Friendly and helpful locals. Live music and more entertainment in non-COVID times. If one is okay boondocking/dry camping this place is a must. Especially for $10.

The big bonus here is no night drive down the hill from Pappy & Harriet's. Come to see the old western movie sets, but stay for dinner and entertainment at P&H. Just check their schedule before you plan to go because the corrals get very crowded if there is a concert scheduled. $10. per head, cash. You can ring the host's doorbell at the corrals, or you can walk around to Mane street and probably find him in the shop that backs up to the corrals. No hookups, no real check-in. The host was helpful. Cell is spotty. Our Verizon went in and out of service so don't rely on it. It's a no-frills place to dry camp but I'm glad it's there. Not many options nearby and the drive to Palm Springs or Joshua Tree is a long one if that's where you're staying. Corrals are dirt. Access road is rough and dirt. Ok to go slow. Our rig is 21' but I wouldn't take one with low clearance back there. We were only one of 3 staying so it was quiet. It was all part of the experience and we would do it again.

Camp Pioneertown is also known as Pioneertown Stables. Plenty of room for any size rig, and not busy on New Years Eve weekend. Sites have a picnic table and garbage, and there is a bathroom with running water. No potable water available, no other services (electric, dump station, etc). There is a camp host who collects money and drives around to check that everyone is doing ok. Pricing is odd at $10 per person instead of by camper. Bumpy entrance on a narrow road (less than a half mile), but doable for any rig. Less than a minute walk to Pappy + Harriets. Go for the music and/or dinner, but if you're going for dinner be sure to make reservations well in advance. Luckily we didn't plan to eat, because the wait for walk-in seating was over three hours (their website will warn you about this)!

This spot is great but bare bones. They charge $10 per person and dogs are allowed. There are no hookups but there are two clean bathrooms with running water centrally located and clean port-a-potties for overflow. Its a pretty small camp ground that allows RVs and tents (actually those with tents seems to stay in the stables which was pretty funny). There are picnic tables and an area in the center to have a fire and BBQ. If you make friends with the Pioneer motel next door (also a super cute spot) they might give you there wifi code...they gave it to us. The host was perfect for the job...a true pioneer type. The campgrounds can get loud (from music at concert and guests) when there's a concert at Pappy and Harriett's. On another note, a quick walk across the parking lot gets you home after a great concert. 1 minute walking distance from downtown Pioneer town and Pappy and Harriett's. On another side note, on slow night's at Pappy and Harriett's you can just park out in their lot for an evening. We did that one night too and everyone was great about it! We have a Toyota Tundra and 26' Airstream for those interested in size accommodations.

Sure, Pioneertown may be a day-trip, but you have to visit Pappy & Harriet's for a dinner and to see what ever band may be playing. With that amount of time being spent, you may as well haul your rig up here, camp at Camp Pioneer and have more than a few drinks with dinner. Heck, bring your horse too as they have corrals right there in the campground. For us van-types, we were backed up to a fence. No electric, no water, no sewer, but there is nice clean set of bathrooms in the campground to make up for it all. Larger rigs have a different area (with the horse corrals), bust still no amenities. The band music can be heard from the campground, but they actually stopped at a fair hour during my visit. Price is $10 *per person* so leave the kids at home ($10 per horse too) No cell to speak of, but Pappy's has free Wifi.
