We had a great time cycling and unwinding in a spacious park that offered complimentary internet access and coin-operated laundry facilities.

The campsite was expansive with ample room between each site. It was a bustling place with numerous golf carts and kids around. The complimentary internet service provided was quite satisfactory.

This is a strange campground that feels a bit more like a private RV park then a state park. There are many long term residents with junky looking sites and lots of trash strewn about. The campground has lots of potential with many lake side sites, but seems like it's seen better days and currently has a very run down feel. We did enjoy the water view from our site, but other than that were not very impressed.

This is a beautiful park. We came in January so the park was pretty empty, a few weekend campers and empty during the week. There is no sewer but two dump stations in the park. There are many waterfront sites. We stayed at 54 with had water access as well as lots of land in the front of our RV with views of the lake through the trees. We saw lots of deer on the road in and there is a nature trail around the park. As far as water views go, 100 & 95 would be my top picks. If you are camping with another RV, there are quite a few combined pull-thrus but if you got one solo and another camper reserved the other, it would be awkward as you are essentially in the same site. Roads are well maintained. We don't use satellite but I see lots of others with them out. AT&T and Verizon worked good, no boosters needed.

Yes we were able to get a 1 night reservation via phone call. No we did not get senior discount. We were first placed in site 135 without trees on a slopped concrete pad at 90+ degree temps. With a call to the office, Barbara worked with us and found site 13 on water, level, and shaded. She also adjusted our bill. The a/c can actually cool our class B! Will have to remember this if we come here again. Concrete pads. Playground in center shaded for kids in our final location. The loop of 135 is brand new and devoid of trees.

We stayed here during TX spring break to get away from the crowds. Our son brought his Class C and we were able to get two sites next to each other, which was nice. The sites were a little closer than I expected based on other reviews, but still ok. The lake was down 5-8ft. I heard that had drained it to limit some grass growth. No luck fishing from the dock. There was a playground nearby for the kids which was nice. I would say my biggest complaint was that I could only find one area near the boat launch that had dumpsters, which was a little less than 1/2 mile from our site. It would be better to have a dumpster on every loop. The other odd thing was a lot of folks brought golf carts and would ride the loops, some with party lights and playing music. It didn't happen late at night, so no problem sleeping. I saw lots of folks parked on the grass / off the road or gravel areas, so it was clear that rules weren't enforced.

The road driving in to Crooked Creek is awful. However, the park itself is fine. We stayed from December 21st-23rd, which was a Saturday to a Monday. On Saturday there were a few other campers with us, but they all left on Sunday, and we had the whole place to ourselves. The kids loved the two playgrounds. The bathrooms and showers were old and not taken care of. We chose not to use them. I would stay here again in the winter when it isn’t crowded, but only in a full hookup site.

This is a gorgeous, spacious Louisiana state recreation area with a beautiful campground. The sites are extremely spacious and well placed. Our site was on the banks of a reservoir with a gorgeous view. The rate reflects a senior discount, afforded me even though I am a Florida resident. The bathhouse was spacious. The Wi-Fi worked! In a public park! Thank you! The site was not spotless, but this is not a state park and I’ve come to find that state parks are generally maintained to a higher level than other types of facilities maintained by counties, cities or forestry departments, such as, in this case, the Louisiana Dept of Ag and Forestry. What I have found this means in many cases is that in parks maintained by these types of agencies you get a gorgeous park that is less well known and used. The level of maintenance may not be as high as one might like, while still being perfectly acceptable. There is a loop trail that is approximately 3 miles long, but you can do various parts of it. It was a very nice walking trail and was mostly level. I was able to access the trail head from our campsite on Susan Road. This park made a wonderful stopping point coming northwest out of New Orleans. It was approximately 200 miles away and the park is located not far from Highway 49. The most important caveat I will give here is that the latest version of General Motors mapping software did not lead us to the park. A good Samaritan recognized we were lost and drove us to the front gate. When I suggested to a delightful person on duty that there should be signs from Highway 49 that lead you directly there, she gave me some frankly unsatisfactory excuses. Notwithstanding the fact that signage to the park from Highway 49 is nonexistent, and that maintenance was very good, but not spotless, this park is so beautiful and most of the sites - especially the waterfront sites - so spectacular that I’m giving it five stars!

We stayed over the 2021 Christmas Holiday and the weather was unseasonably warm which prompted the last minute decision to visit this park. It is very nice and we stayed in a brand new Full Hookup site on Dogwood Road. There were restrooms / showers across the street. That facility wasn't brand new but clean enough for our use. The lake was nearly drained to get rid of invasive grass growth. However, we will definitely go back.

The lake here is gorgeous! So peaceful just sitting outside watching the sun gleam off the water. We had a couple rainy days but as soon as that sun came out we soaked it up. Park is huge! When we first arrived we were in site #65. Not a bad site at all just wanted to be by the lake. Noticed that the person in site #95 had left the next day and we were able to snag it. Definitely one of the best sites at the campground. Tons of places to walk the dogs. Can rent boats/canoes here. I believe it was $30. Laundry facilities were nice. Check in was easy. About 15 minutes from town. Stayed here in early March. Weekends filled up, during the week about half the park was full. Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed here one night on our way to the Natchez Trace Parkway. Our friends met us here and settled in one of their favorite areas in the primitive camping area. It was a huge area, located on the water and was a perfect campsite. There was a nearby bathroom (flush toilet) and a water spigot near the bathroom. There were also shower facilities located closer to the campground that had hook-ups. We camped in a 17 foot trailer and shared the campsite with our friends who were in a tent. There was plenty of room. We had cell service with AT&T which was convenient. Since we only stayed there one night, we did not do any hiking. Our friends had their bikes and the interior roads were packed dirt - perfect for those of us who want to explore without doing any mountain-bike type riding. Google maps had us taking multiple turns getting there from Texas. It might be a good idea to look at the directions before heading out to make sure that you don't see too much of Louisiana's backroads.

I made our reservation online and it is so hard to really tell anything from the pictures they give you. What I saw online looked like the perfect campsite for cheap money so I booked it. When we arrived at site 57 I saw immediately that although it was at a beautiful spot in the park and had a great view, it was also very unlevel. We wanted to make it work and so I tried leveling out our rig to see if it was possible, but regardless of what I did, I could only get to level by putting the wheels on one side of the RV off the ground. Since this wasn't working I returned to the park station and asked if I could move. They were very accommodating and gave me a list of possible sites that I could switch to. But sadly almost all of them were either too short or were also pitched pretty badly on one end or the other. Finally, I found one site that fit our big rig and it was so level that I didn't even have to put down my jacks to level the RV if I didn't want to. That site was #64. I also have to say that if you have a big rig you will want to be very careful here as the roads are windy and narrow. You can do it, but just be very careful and take it slow. On the plus side, the creek and the reservoir are fabulous and many great views can be had of the water. The hilly terrain makes for beautiful views but it also causes challenges with getting to the sites and getting your rig level in many cases. The bathrooms were just ok although clean. Nothing fancy here. The laundromat was just fine and did a great job for us on our clothes. There is also a nice boat ramp in the park for those inclined to go fishing. Alexandria is about a half hour away and has almost anything you could need to buy including a well-stocked large Krogers grocery store. We had fine internet by using AT&T and boosting our hotspot. All-in-all, the park is pretty and rustic. It also shows some signs of aging as some others have mentioned. But if you have a small to medium size rig, it's a great value for your camping dollar. If you have a big rig, it's still doable, just be careful about site selection and navigating the camping area roads.

Camping Makes Memories

We love to camp here. We are able to fish, hike the trails, bike ride or go to one of the beaches. We camp on week days due to weekends are busy. When we arrived yesterday, the site we booked on line was #91 right on the lake, but due to the big drop off the office gave us a list of sites to pick from. When we found the site we wanted we called the office and gave them the site number.

Stopped overnight on our drive through Louisiana. What a great park!! Beautiful pine trees and views of the lake. Since we were only staying 1 night, we chose a regular site, but the pull thrus and premiums had nice views of the lake (but super expensive!!!). Laundry facilities on site along with several playgrounds for the kids. Be mindful if you are coming from Texas- google maps took us down a gravel road to get to the park when going a few more exits and taking the paved road would have been much better! All in all a little hidden gem and worth your stay!

Very quiet and affordable. There’s a little beach area, multiple bath houses, and a couple washers and dryers. We stayed on a site with hookups, but I believe they also have primitive camping. I have T-Mobile and it worked fine, but used the WiFi most of the time

The park is large with several loops that border or are close to the lake. The roads are a bit tight but not that hard to maneuver. Many of the sites are short and hard to level on but the sites are wooded and a good distance apart. We were just overnighting so we didn't use any of the park facilities but there was a lot to do here and lots of families and fishing.
