I would not recommend. The campground is actually just the lawn area separated into parking areas separated by chalk and costs $50/night. There are no fire pits, no picnic tables, and one porta-potty. The camping area is directly between the park and marinas parking lot and entrance road to both the marina and park so there is an abundance of traffic noise. The town uses it as a training ground for their bus drivers so you may have busses, bus noise, and back up beeper‘s at 8 PM at night. The people running the test will set up the track cones for the drivers to back into right next to where you are camping and do not care about the noise to campers. If you ask them why they’re doing it there instead of one of the adjacent parking lots, you will receive mumbles as answers. The area is used by fisherman during fishing season so you can expect to hear people up and moving at 4 AM.

For absolutely No Hook Ups, it is extremely expensive. In the month of August, just in time for the fishery, they change they’re site rent to 50. It’s a grass field with 10’x 20’ sites separated by a chalk line and a metal fence post. Don’t go over the line or you get charged double. There are two port a potties, and a dumpster near by. Flush toilets and showers are 1/4 mile away, at the boat ramps fish cleaning area. There is no room between rv’s to even cook or gather. I couldn’t even put out my awning. The people next to us had to put up their tent under our slide. It is a very convenient site, when salmon fishing. You are at the boat ramp.

We intended to stay at Fort Stevens SP but arrived too late on a Wednesday night during the second week of September. The ranger on duty couldn't be bothered to suggest a nearby alternative but the pricey ($61) KOA host up the road.away recommended Hammond Basin (another name for this same place). The marina RV park is spacious, features either grassy parking spots or pavement. Big rigs are welcome but tents are prohibited even though we saw several. There were a dozen other rigs the first night and maybe 18 on Friday night. Most people parked on the grass. Several new and frequently serviced PortaPotties dotted the area. The first night was foggy so we were wakened by the fog horns of passing ships but that was kinda neat even though super loud and hard to ignore. Friday night was clear and quiet. There's a nice day use parking area for 20 cars right on the river a couple hundred yards away from the camping area. We spent several hours there watching the boat tragic, sea lions and a couple of whales play around. Very cool! While no hookups or water, the portapotty solution and view of the VC river makes this a very doable solution when we visit Astoria. There's a self pay station kiosk as you pull in that accepts credit cards or cash. We didn't see an attendant or anyone who polices the marina area during our two day stay there. Signs indicate that it's $27.50 a night but the fee station says $30. Either way, pretty good deal.
