Great little free camping area right on the Murray river. As with most campsites along his stretch of the Murray, there is an abundance of birdlife, as well as access to this iconic river. There are no defined sites, however there is plenty of shady grassed areas for pitching a tent.

Thomastown
Very pleasant,attractive, quiet bush camping in a small alpine valley on Shaws Creek. Sites well dispersed either side of the bridge. Adequate shade from Snow Gums over thick, short grass and wildflowers. Rated 4. 3/5 We keep returning to this camp.
Cape Le Grand

A reasonably large, level cleared circuit, surrounded by Peppermint forest with tea-tree understory above the rushing Taponga River. Short grass, well shaded. A pleasant camp, not as popular as other Lower Big River sites, probably as it is not on the Big River. Rated 4.

Narraport
A very small country caravan park overlooking attractive Tchum Lake South. Limited shade from a few scattered trees, well screened from the nearby road. Mown grass. Hot showers, shelter.
Wirrabara
Open, shady campground near a small creek in Wirrabara State Forest. There are basic facilities here (long drop toilets, picnic tables and fireplaces). The sites are dispersed, mostly grass and dirt, and level. Shade is provided by the large mature eucalyptus trees.
Cowa
One of a number of free campgrounds along the Dargo River. Jimmy Iverson's Campground is very large and has plenty of grassy sites, and shade. It is set along a sweeping bend of the Dargo River.
Wagga Wagga North
Free camping suitable for caravans across the road from the Murrumbidgee RiverThe toilets were upgraded a few years ago and the park is generally well maintained. There is a dump point on site. Maximum stay is 72 hours. AccessThis site is accessable by caravans in good weather.
Torbay
Basic camping on the Torbay Inlet, a short walk / boat trip to the ocean. If you have a 4wd (or don't mind a short walk), you can follow the track alongside the inlet through to the beach, which offers pretty good fishing. Some nice sized bream can be had in the estuary too.
Eildon
One of the larger campsites in this state forest, right on the Big River. Being one of the larger campgrounds, it is popular with group campers and it can be difficult to find a spot in the busy periods. Thanks to Peter for the following updates.

Creek side camping in open forest and gold mining area. The vehicle camping area (1 bench 2 BBQs, 1 broken) is on both sides of the road just across the creek (intermittent) from the day area (WC, shelter, tank, 3 benches 2 BBQs (1 broken).
Cobungra
A pleasant, small camping area on the nose of a ridge above the picnic area and willow lined Victoria River (small). Set in open woodland of stunted gums over green mown grass and surrounded by rolling open farmland. Facilities (5 BBQs & tables, pit toilet) good.
Browns Plains
Pleasant, quiet, dispersed bush camping by the Murray River adjacent to flood plain River Red Gum open grassed forest and billabongs. Sites are generally level, most with adequate shade and short green grass. Low level banks, no beach. Small, muddy, informal boat ramp. Rated 4.
Staceys Bridge
Attractive camp by the bubbling Nariel Cr on small, level, grassed, flats shaded by Manna and Peppermint Gums, surrounded by forested slopes. A couple of secluded creekside sites on either side of the Corryong-Banambra Rd. AccessThis site is accessable by caravans in good weather.
