This is an exceptional camping site situated on a mountain with a breathtaking view of Phoenix. The city manages the campground, providing city water and immaculately clean bathrooms that meet city standards, distributed throughout the expansive park. The Family Campground, located near the peak, offers a stunning view of the city lights and full amenities. The campsites vary, with some offering pull-through access and others requiring back-in. Accommodations range from tents to large rigs. There's also an additional campground and plenty of roadside camping options available, all of which have access to nearby bathrooms, but without hookups. The park is home to numerous towering stove-type cacti and a hiking trail. The staff, including the gate attendants, camp host, and park ranger, were all friendly. This is the most distinctive camping experience we've had, and I can't recommend it enough.

My trip from Kentucky to California has been filled with various accommodations, but none compare to this particular locale. The hiking paths are exceptional. The scenery is breathtaking. The spots at the Willow camping area are fantastic. The bathing facilities and lavatories are top-notch. The environment is serene and stunningly beautiful.

We spent 11 consecutive nights at the family-oriented camping site. The neighboring communal campsite was absurd! They constantly blasted music at high volumes on their sound system, from dawn to well past midnight. There were also loud voices and laughter till the early hours of the morning, leaving no room for tranquility or the enjoyment of the natural surroundings. On a brighter note, the campsite boasted stunning hiking paths, well-maintained washrooms, and comforting hot showers. The calls of coyotes echoed throughout the night, surprisingly close to our location. Plus, the breathtaking sunrises were a sight to behold!

The process of checking in at the gate kiosk was straightforward. There were no additional costs for bringing a car, whether towed or driven, along with your recreational vehicle. The family camping area is a three-mile drive from the gate. The water supply and 50 amp electric connections functioned properly. The campsites are well distributed, with approximately 50 feet space between each. The environment is peaceful, with no noise during the day or night. Campsite D23 offers a stunning mountain view. There is a waste disposal station located on the entrance road. The area boasts numerous excellent hiking trails, including a 10-mile loop that can be accessed from the campground. The campground and its surroundings are adorned with many magnificent, towering saguaros, reaching 20 feet in height. AT&T cell service is decent, with 3-4 bars of 5G. With a booster, streaming was seamless. There are over 100 HDTV channels available, the majority of which had a clear picture.

We stayed in both the developed Family campground and the undeveloped Willow campground. Both of the sites we stayed at were spacious and clean. The Family campground has electricity and water at each site. However, only one shower per gender. The shower facilities at the Willow campground was surprisingly better than the Family campground. The views from both sites were stunning. And so many places to hike at and near the campsites. If we’re in the area again, we would definitely stay here. FYI, it is difficult to get reservations due to it’s popularity.

Dates of stay: Nov. 11-26, 2019 The Park: This is a beautiful park, with well-spaced sites. There is not enough vegetation to call it true privacy, but the distance between sites is nice, and no matter where you are, you'll get at least one direction that doesn't face other campers. The park is far enough from civilization that there is no traffic noise, though there is airplane noise during the day due to nearby Luke AFB. The campground is not near enough to the Visitor Center (which is also the area's regional library!) for a daily walk, but in addition to it also housing the library, it has some snacks/drinks, gift shop, and live animal displays. The mountains block a sunset view from within the campground, but Phoenix blazes in the distance during the evening. Facilities: Everything was clean and serviceable. The showers were large with plenty of push-button warm water (never really hot.) The shower house is not heated. Trails: There are miles and miles of great trails for every skill level. All of the regional parks provide very good maps, and their trails are extremely well-signed. This park also has a nice Competitive Track for higher-speed biking. You can walk or bike easily from the campground or access the trails with a short drive to alternate parking/picnic areas. Location: The closest town is Surprise, which has more than enough amenities for anything you need, and is an easy drive from the park. Critters spotted: Costa's hummingbirds, coyote (one stalked the dumpster, was never aggressive, but be aware), cottontails & jackrabbits

This was a nice campground in a county park. Water and 50 amp service. Site was level side to side but a little adjustment needed front to back. Distance between each site made it nice, unlike a lot of other county, state parks. Site 5 is close to entrance but it is a great view of the city lights. Campground was full all weekend and quiet. We were able to have a fire which is uncommon due to fire danger in the desert. Bundles of fire wood from camp host $7.00 and hardly any smoke. Lots of trails for hiking and biking. We will go back!

We stayed here 2 nights, sites have water and electric 30/50 amp, but no sewer. Does have dump station at entrance to the RV camping area. Lots of areas for cycling and hiking. Park has additional areas for group camping and day use. We will be back. Verizon cell coverage was poor and intermittent at about 2 bars.

We stayed for two nights in May and had a wonderful stay. There is water and electricity at each site. Lots of space and nice, level sites. The campground wasn’t busy. The bathrooms/shower house was very clean. The park is so nice, lots of beautiful trails.

We found this great state park by accident. Our truck needed servicing so we found the first dealership and from there the first campground nearby with openings. Helpful staff, plenty of amenities, clean, lots to do and low cell signal. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see much of the park but would love to go back and stay there, campground has about 40 sites, to hike the trails. Beautiful sunrise and sunsets. They offer ranger led hikes and more. Water and electric with dump station. Discount with weekly rental.

This is a clean, quiet campground with nice views of the sunrise and some great hiking and mountain biking trails throughout the park. However, there's a popular horse riding trail right by the west edge of the campground. I was hounded by flies all evening, and ended up having to sit inside my RV until sunset when they dispersed. Maybe this isn't as much of a problem further away, on the eastern side of the campground. It's also unfortunate that they only have sites with electrical and water hookup. I don't need either, so $32 is a bit steep. Also, cell service was really spotty. My hotspot is AT&T and my Google Fi phone automatically uses the strongest of Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. Only the AT&T data was working, but just barely.

Each site has picnic table, grill and fire ring. Water and electric, pads are gravel but very level. We stayed 1 night in site 16 and moved to 32 because we decided to stay longer. Lots of hiking trails here. Camp host is friendly, offering firewood. It was very hot, we stayed here in October, 2019. Hiking had to be done early or later for me to enjoy it. The Park Office is at the bottom of the mountain, inside the Park entrance. The library is there, also, with free wi-fi. We would stay here again. ETA- there is an overflow lot (dry lot) if you need to wait for an available site with hookups. There is a charge but it's less than the other sites.

Close to town, big sites with water power and concrete picnic table. Bathroom in middle Sites on outer loop a little more private. RV Dump and garbage at entrance of campground. Bike or hiking trail leaving from campground Quiet well cared for Campground is 3 miles into park. Library at entrance to park Overflow parking in competitive track area $15 a night but only if campground full. Must check daily and pay one night at a time No hookups, lots of room Closed during events Cell reception is hit and miss Slow in some areas. Weird as you can see lots of cell towers on mountain #22 not good #10 better

We really enjoyed this park. Our site was a little short for our rig, but other than that, it was great. Park had lots of cacti, especially saguaro, lots of hiking and biking trails, and lots of wildlife. We would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the outdoors, especially hiking and biking.

As stated before, beautiful views of the Phoenix area, day and night. Spaces are reasonably far apart, but still not much privacy. Many walking/biking/horse trails to choose from. The desert in early March is lush with green vegetation with many different colors of flowers.

This regional park is usually hard to get into and when a site became available, we used it as a stopping point on our way to Sedona. The scenery is beautiful - lots of saguaros, mountains, trails, cacti, wildflowers, and more! There are 39 camping sites in the Family Campground. They are spaced out pretty well and our site 12 was very level and flat and had asphalt base. While walking around the campground, there were several that leaned from side by side and many had gravel as pads. Amenities at the park include: electric (30amp/50amp and water), picnic table, fire ring, restrooms (though we didn’t go in them), dumpster and a brand new dump station. Nice hiking trails start right from the campground. No WiFi available, 2-3 bars 5G AT&T, lots of over-the-air TV stations and our hotspot with a MiFi antenna gave us a speed of 20-30 mbps. Close to the western suburbs of Phoenix. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed only one night here as it was still pretty hot during the day. What a beautiful campground and park! One can tell that it is maintained with care and devotion. Water and electric plus a fire pit, grill, and concrete picnic table on a level gravel site—what more can you ask for? Lots of trails in the foothills of the mountain range on one side, and the lights of Phoenix on the other. Was surprised how super quiet it was at night. If you like saguaros, this is for you!

We love this park! Friendly staff and roomy sites. If you like airplanes, fighter jets fly over about every 45 minutes. We didn’t find it annoying at all.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Nice bathroom with a hot shower. The shower is trimmed but all you need to do is keep pressing the button and the water stays on. The sites are nice with enough space between each. Good hiking in the area.

Covid screwed up our original plans for Christmas, so my wife and I booked a spot last-minute for Christmas night. At White Tank Mountains Regional Park, there are two main campgrounds to choose from: 1) Family campground (modern, with hookups) 2) Willow Campground (primitive site for tents and small self-contained campers. This review applies only to the Family campground. We liked how spacious and flat all the campsites were. We were delighted to see our site included both electrical and water since we were expecting only electricity. Each site provides enough space for the biggest of rigs and room (in most cases) for another vehicle. Included with your camping pad are a nice, big concrete picnic table and partially sunken campfire ring. The gravel pad encasing the table and fire was big enough for us to set up the cornhole game. If you're a hiker or mountain biker, I'd definitely recommend staying a minimum of two nights here. Since check-in is 1 p.m. and check-out is noon, one night is hardly enough to experience the best of this park. We didn't mountain bike, but I can vouch for the excellent hiking experiences you'll get on both Waterfall Trail and Ford Canyon Trail. If you have time for only one hike, Waterfall Trail would be my top recommendation. It's considerably shorter and easier to navigate, with more to see: namely petroglyphs and a seasonal waterfall. Here's a link to an interactive trail map: https://maricopa.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html Additional notes: - $32 nightly campsite fee includes gate entrance - All the volunteers and park staff we came in contact with were very friendly and helpful - Gates to the park close at 8 p.m. but upon check-in you'll receive a gate code and instructions on how to enter after the gates close to the public - There's a very clean and well-maintained, modern restroom in the center of the campground that's very accessible from all campsites. Bonus: there's a shower stall here, too. - From the west end of the campground, you can catch Ironwood Trail to connect with other trails in the park - The dump station is located near the campground entry/exit point. It's well-maintained and very clean. - Although there are no trash bins located around the campground, there's a trash dumpster adjacent to the dump station

We had to find a spot for the night on our travels, found this place for the night on our way home from Sedona to Orange County. I didn’t know it was gated, we made it in time at 7:50pm, gates close at 8:00pm. A nice couple took our reservation without giving us a hard time because we were cutting it kind of close! The road to our campsite was paved, made it easy to find our site in the dark. The restrooms had clean shower facility. We would stay here again!

Just wow. You know a campsite is good, when you're sad to be leaving it behind! We were in site 19 which is just across from the Ironwood trail. A great little hike we enjoyed daily. The sites are spread apart which made for a peaceful and quiet campground, especially during the week. Each site had a BBQ and firepit, which we enjoyed while looking at the twinkling lights of downtown Phoenix in the distance. There was a park ranger or camp host that patrolled quite frequently, which made us feel safe. Electric and water hookups at the site made us feel spoiled our first week of full-time life, and an easy dump station at the entrance/exit. Great reception with Verizon, even in the middle of a thunderstorm. About 45 minutes from Phoenix, which made for a nice getaway to enjoy date nights in the city. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!
