We booked the group site via recreation.gov 3 months prior to our visit. I called 5 days before arrival to verify we could have 4 RVs at the location as there is a difference from the website to the app what is allowed there. They let us know it wouldn’t be an issue. When we arrived someone was in our spot and the camp host was unable to have them move as they got their they night before and paid. When we called the ranger they said they didn’t put out our sign until the people were already there. They did try and accommodate us and we stayed there. However the quiet times weren’t enforced by the camp host. Also the next day the other people had many other cars show up and block the main road. Which the day before the camp host said that it was strictly prohibited for emergency reasons. Again the camp host said nothing to them about the extra vehicles. We had a good time with our family on our half of the circle and the other people were fine on their half of the circle. It just was frustrating to reserve a spot to not get it, then get told quiet times and where we could park for others to do the exact opposite. We had been to this campsite before and loved it but we will not be coming back.

It looks like the Forest Service has taken an interest in improving and maintaining this site. Limited RV space, no 'permanent' residents and no trash. The trash cans were tidy, but full. the bathroom had no toilet paper. Our car uses AT&T and had connectivity (unknown level). My Verizon phone had 1 bar, my wife's Verizon phone had none. Adding our WeBoost provided us both with good connectivity.

There are a few dispersed camps along the road. They were all filled, and had people looking like they live there in trailers. The road for this particular site was one of the worse ones, deeply rutted and rough. Looks like it was a mudpit in the wet season. Disappointed as the area is gorgeous but passing the info on.

After we had to change our weekend plans to camp at Chiricahua National Monument due to a wildfire in the area (The Pinery Fire), we looked for an alternate spot. Stockton Pass Campground is about the same distance north of Willcox, AZ as Chiricahua is south, and at about the same elevation. We decided to give it a try. We camped there for three nights in our 26' classic GMC class-A motorhome (actually just outside of the "campground" in a clear area). The campground it's self is geared more toward tent camping, although there are a few spots to park a small RV or trailer there. It is equipped with tables, fire rings, and a pit toilet, along with a couple rows of trash cans. The Shake trail leaves from the campground and continues into the Pinaleno mountains and is about 5.1 miles long with an elevation gain of 3,000+ feet. We hiked almost halfway up and enjoyed some beautiful scenery. In the middle of May, the temps were in the low 50s at night and the mid 80s in the afternoon. We parked near a nice Juniper tree that provided afternoon shade, but allowed plenty of sun on our solar panels most of the day. There was one other person at the campground the first night, no one but us the second night, then a well behaved group the third night, but we were far enough away that we barely noticed they were there. Overall it was a great weekend get away from Tucson and was very isolated, quiet and dark at night. The location is fairly close to Willcox and Safford, AZ and has plenty of opportunities for daytime activities. Cell service (Verizon) was sketchy even with a signal booster, which allowed us to really get away from it all.

Only one RV the first night and I had the place to myself the next evening. It was winter but tent camping was great and a nice trail leaves right from the campground and heads up the mountain.
