I really like the campground. Spots really vary in size. Pit toilets. Some spots right on the river. Some noise at night -- music and generators, but overall not bad. The reservoir is no wake and great. Not a lot of "beach" areas to sit around the edge of the water and they fill up quickly. Great kayaking.

I love the campground -- the trees are amazing and it is so convenient to the reservoir. We did have a herd of cows walk through our campsite, which was a little disconcerting. The quiet hours are not enforced and there were lots of campsites with multiple families that were very loud. I've never understood why camp hosts don't make the rounds at 10pm and remind people to keep it down. Still, a beautiful place to camp.

Brett covered all the details in his review, just a couple of additions. At S&M, there are 2 camping loops and we really like the lower loop (sites 17-34). Several of the sites back up to Smith & Morehouse Creek and have some amazing views. Site 20 is beautiful, however it has quite the drop off. I wouldn't suggest it if you have young children. We tried to hike around the lake from the dam to Ledgefork Campground. Be advised, the trail is barely more than a deer track and doesn't go all the way around. About ¼ of a mile down the trail is a very popular local swimming spot and rope swing. Lake is also great for SUPs and kayaks as gas motors are prohibited. *Just an FYI, there was a terrible fire in this canyon in 2016.

Smith and Morehouse is a great remote campground. To get there you have to travel several miles along a dirt road and cell service doesn't last much past the pavement. The sites at Smith and Morehouse are all asphalt and concrete and are generally quite spacious with nice separation between neighbours. There are the typical pit toilets and some small spigots for drinking water. There is no dump station in the area so you will have to find one on your way out. On the south end of the camground just up from the restrooms there is a trail that leads to reasonable sized lake. If you are not up for the walk, a quick drive down the dirt road past the campground entrance will get you there. I don't think there is anything else in this canyon except this campground, the lake and Ledgefork campground. We drove through Ledgefork and felt that Smith and Morehouse was the better choice as it appeared to be more spacious and more modern. We loved the area and will be back again I am sure.
