Despite some negative feedback, I found the camping grounds to be far superior. This place is a true RV haven, though the cost is a bit steep considering the overall setup. They offer five unique camping areas. Here's my sincere evaluation of this campground: it's quaint, not extravagant, but provides the bare necessities for camping. The restrooms were surprisingly spotless. The resort itself shows some wear and tear but it's still charming. The proprietors were friendly. Each spot comes with its own fire pit. For RV enthusiasts, there are spacious open fields for parking. Tent campers can enjoy more privacy in the wooded areas. The campground is extremely tranquil, so maintain the peace. It's actually quite pleasant. The train that some have complained about passed by at most five times in a day and wasn't bothersome. It's just a fleeting background noise. If you're a light sleeper and dislike noise, bring earplugs. For me, it was a soothing sound in the forest. I also left some pictures. The playground is minimalistic and not ideal for children. The pool wasn't open yet due to it being spring, but it looked inviting. The onsite shop was handy and charming. They enforce a strict 3mph driving speed, which is reasonable considering the presence of children and pets. I didn't encounter any bugs, which was a relief. They don't have a mosquito problem. If you're in search of a safe, quiet, and convenient location, this is it. They even offer kayak rentals for the lake. I had excellent cell reception, despite having a typically unreliable provider. All in all, this was a wonderful short-term retreat.

We first stayed here in 2017 and rated this place with 4 stars, which was admittedly slightly generous based on high hopes for future improvements. Those improvements don't seem to have come to fruition, as the place looks pretty much the same except the sites have settled and started to overgrow. The transient/overnight sites have very narrow gravel pads and a no outdoor rug (at all - not even a doormat) rule. The grass is fine and was not muddy while we were here, but there is a 'rule reversal' if it rains where you can put down your mat so you don't ruin their grass.. which is kind of a bummer because you'll likely to make a mess of your rug then! Speaking of rules... SO MANY RULES. The most notable thing about this park is the abundance of signage with RULES. RULES PROCLAIMED EVERYWHERE. We were chastised for going 5mph (no joke). The park has a 3mph speed limit which means you can walk more quickly to the entrance. If you're in a transient site it's nearly half a mile to the entrance of the park. We did appreciate the strict rules on our last evening at this place when a group of rowdy neighrbors were forcing everyone at the campground to 'enjoy' their DJing/music skills. It was very very loud, but we texted the owners and they immediately came up to have the neighbors turn it down, which was nice. No push back or rudeness. We were in site 58 which was level but was a nightmare to get into. The park has position boulders strategically to protect their grass, but not all of the sites are angled in a manner to get into or out of them with a rig of more than 30ft. The pull through sites are terrifically unlevel. Every rig longer than 20 feet had their tires either jacked up off the ground or needed several blocks under their tires and levelers. The trains. OMG, the trains! HORNS. BLOWING ALL NIGHT LONG. We left this placeVERY sleep deprived. I don't know what happened since 2017, but holy lord of mercy please make the train horns stop! The pricing here is weird. The price we were quoted was off by a few. dollars and some change than the price in our receipt, which was somehow different from the price on our credit card statement. It was maybe a $15 discrepancy on a $945 stay (16 nights), so we didn't take action. The park made us pay $5 for my sister to come sit at our rig and watch football (visitor fee) for a few hours, which was kind of crappy. We won't be back to Red's. We're so tired from not sleeping. So unimpressed by the speed limit rules. So underwhelmed by the amenities for adults. We used Starlink here with great success, and Verizon signal is also very good.

This campground is right down there with the worst. It's difficult to put into words how awful this experience was, but I'll try. Many of the sites are incredibly unlevel. Other reviewers have commented on this, the owners themselves said people have had a lot of issues with unlevel sites, and yet there has still been no attempt to fix the issue. The playground is a joke. The equipment is mostly around 50 years old and clearly hasn't been maintained at all in that time. Melted away plastic, exposed rusted metal, caved in slides - you name it, they have it! There was also an interesting brown goo at the bottom of two of the slides that weren't caved in. The 3mph speed limit is still in effect and still ridiculous. They claim it's that slow so kids can play in the street. Are you kidding me?? Yeah, teach your kids that it's safe to play in the street, that sounds like a good idea. Personally, I'd prefer to teach my kids to be cautious around streets, like how it is everywhere else. And the crown jewel was the train. Blaring the incredibly loud horn ALL NIGHT LONG. During the day, trains would come by every hour or so. But during the evening when you're trying to put your kids to sleep, it'll come by blaring that horn every 20 to 30 minutes. We also had tons of loud neighbors with loud barking dogs. If you're searching for peace and quiet, this is not the place to be. This campground is currently rated at 4 stars, which is absolutely insane. This is a 1 star campground, make no mistake. Your time and money can be better spent elsewhere.

I could not agree more with “CamperGuy’s” review of this park, spot on! So I won’t restate their comments and concerns. We’ve traveled all over the US and Canada and stayed at very nice places and some not-so-nice places. I’ve never seen any park mow the lawn at the sites where people are staying. You can imagine having to clean off all your belongings after your site is mowed. The “lawn” is not turf by most definitions, and has gravel and other debris in it. Which is thrown at high velocity as the industrial mowers pick it up. Airstream owners, and anyone that values the condition of your RV and vehicle. BEWARE!

This campground is located about 30 minutes from Rochester with easy access to get here. The sites are gravel, most are level, and there’s space between you and your neighbor. The owner’s are friendly and helpful, and the people who are seasonal are too. They have activities most weekends for both kids and adults. There is some train noise, but it doesn’t bother me (plus it’s easy to use Pandora for some white noise). The best recommendation I can give is that I plan on returning next year!

I regret ever booking with this campground. The initial site they gave us was grossly unlevel; even the owner acknowledged that it was a poor site. So, then we moved to another site, which wasn’t much better level wise. We’ve been to a lot of campgrounds, and I’ve never seen such unleveled sites. The campground owners are extremely knit-picky. They have a laundry list of rules you must agree to, many of which make no sense. For example, if you’re camper, truck, car, or motorhome happens to make a dig in the grass, they will assess you a fee. You cannot have any kindling to help start fires, if you move the picnic table and don’t move it back, they will fine you. Did I mention their speed limit is three mph? You heard right. Try getting your vehicle to go that slow. It’s simply not possible. They even have signs up telling people they can’t ride their bikes faster than three mph. I’m all for safety, but I’ve never been to a campground that had a speed limit less than five mph, and in my opinion, even that is too slow. The campground is very close to train tracks, so, plan on the pleasant sound of a train going by every hour or so. In the first day we were there I counted a train going by at least ten times. The campground does have a nice pool and playground, but it lacks in every other way. When you pull in, there is construction equipment, old cars, and other debris on your left-hand side. It looks like one of those houses you drive by with tons of junk in their yard. They have a large number of bikes by the office, which I assume are for people to use, but they are just thrown in a big pile (see picture). The campground has rusted tractors scattered around the campground. I assume the owners intend to give the site an antique-like feel, but I felt it made the site feel dumpier. The campground appears to be primarily for seasonals because most RVs had decks built next to them and most sites gave off the impression that the occupants were not going anywhere for a while. When we were there, our daughter was one of three children we saw. This didn’t appear to be a family-friendly site. Did I mention the owners will kick you out without cause? It says so right in the paperwork. It also says that you are not entitled to a refund for any unused nights. Don’t try and speak with the owners rationally either. The two owners are husband and wife, and the husband is at least 6’2’’ tall. The wife claimed I was “flying down the hill,” and when I told her I wasn’t, she had her husband confront me outside my car door. When I went to get out of my car, he started screaming at me telling me to get the beep out of his campground. I told him I wanted a refund for the two days left and he refused. He wouldn’t even let me make my case. He just kept talking over me. He got into his truck, and I told him I wouldn’t move until he would speak to me. He just kept backing up and hit me with the side of his truck. Honestly, it was just a tap, and I was fine, but he could have killed me. I then went to the office and asked if they could be reasonable, and that was all I could get out before the guy threatened to kick my beep and beat the beep out of me. I said we would leave, but he still called the cops on us. You can’t take down a motorhome in a matter of seconds. In my opinion, the owners aren’t mentally sound. The husband admitted they have kicked out “lots” of people. When I told him about the person I saw walking around with an 18 oz can of beer in his hand; he admitted it was his son and told me “so what.” They claim their campground is kid-friendly, but I’ve never been to a campground where people walk around with beer cans. Usually, they drink the beer at their respective campsites. Don’t waste your time with this campground. It’s dumpy, the campsites stink, and most importantly, the owners can take your money and kick you out for any reason. Maybe I should get my head checked for staying there in the first place. Why trust my review? Because I took the time to write over 750 words. People need to know about my experience. The preceding comments are based on my own experiences and are solely my opinion.

We stayed this past week as our first trip for the season. Reservations are easy to make online and choose a site. You can also select to purchase a large bundle of wood at checkout. Due to invasive ash borer, firewood is quarantined. Very easy to find, friendly staff at check in. Large selection of sites available including FHU, pull through, tent or cabins. Sites have well-maintained 20/30/50A electrical boxes and water. Electric worked great for us. Our site was perfectly level side to side and easy to level front to back. Most sites look about the same. Good camp store available with some snacks, toys, camping items, ice cream, beer, etc. There is a huge playground that kept our toddler busy. Next to the store/office is a pen for goats that were interactive and friendly -owner was there and assured us they are safe to hand-feed. There is also a nice pool. Bath house was kept clean with good hot water and water pressure. Be aware of strict 3 MPH speed limit through the grounds, with kids and families walking and biking in the road. Large seasonal population but tons of sites for short term stays. Online lists fun activities every weekend of the season. We definitely plan to stay again.

It seems most upstate NY parks aren’t open until the winter, we didn’t have many options, and when we called Red’s they were very nice, and flexible, as we were driving from CA with kids so we didn’t exactly know the exact date we’d be there. They let us come to their park a full week before they were even open! Red and Barb are such friendly people. The staff do get on you about speed limits, but with kids around the whole park I can understand why. They also host parties and activities at their store/patio area. It seems most sites aren’t level, except for most of the ones on the top of the hill, but that’s never really been something we’ve had issue with. Every single front yard of the long term people was well kept(which seems to be a statewide thing) also the people we were parked next too were very very nice, and everyone we bumped into was kind. The train does come through often, we were parked pretty close so we could hear it(again not something we take issue with) but I imagine people at the top of the hill probably don’t even notice at all. We ended up having to leave and couldn’t give much notice, again they worked with us, we wish we could’ve stayed longer! We’ve moved around quite a bit in the last few years and NEVER have I found the rv park owners to be as friendly and welcoming as Red and Barb.

Spoiler: This place has a goat petting zoo on property. Red's is a newer (2 years old at the time of our stay) family oriented campground sitting just off the Erie Canal. The staff / owners are very friendly and helpful folks, and setting up reservations was a breeze; they were flexible with our dates, which is appreciated as we prefer to save $$ rather than pay for nights we don't stay. Red's offers well placed, full hook-ups (sewer, 50A/30A, water) at each site. There is a dump station near the entrance. We didn't note any tent campers during our stay. We were assigned a spot in what appears to be their 'long term' area, as we booked a month to receive the monthly rate and fend off any Labor day camp spot searching woes. We were surrounded by well-kept rigs who had built themselves cute little patios and gardens. Each space has about 30ft of grassy area to call their own before running up against your neighboring rig. These sites are not overly level, but manageable. It has been a very rainy year in this area, and we personally struggled with keeping our levelers from sinking into the mixed gravel/dirt/grass parking space. Short term stayers seem to get placed at the 'top' of the hill where there are pull-through spaces and the sites seem a bit more level. This is also where the bath house and laundry services are housed. The bathrooms were basic, but very clean. Laundry was also basic, very pricy - $3 in Sacajawea coins per load of wash & $1.50 in quarters per dry. I did appreciate that you needed to pay in Sacajawea coins (which the office stocks), as it makes doing your laundry feel a little like playing PacMan. Sorta. The campground seems to be evolving - there is construction equipment and staff always seems to be toiling away in a garden or in the playground area to create something new. The pool is clean and set next to playground objects and a picnic area. Red's hosted a pig roast fundraiser for a local charity and invited all guests to bring a dish to pass while we were here - it's that kind of place. There is a kitschy campground store offering a variety of essentials (i.e. tomahawks and toilet paper) as well a snack bar. While Red's is very cute, and you can tell management is really working to make it a country-bumpkin type resort destination (the best kind of resort destinations), there are some negatives to report. I mentioned the site grades already (tough to get/stay level). It's also a decently noisy campground; there is a frequented train route on the opposite side of the canal which crosses a road - meaning the trains need to blow their horns at each crossing. Due to limited site spacing, it is also probable that you will hear your neighbor. Since we don't have kids, we found the strictly enforced 3mph (seriously - we witnessed several verbal floggings take place when vehicles traveled not much more than 3mph) to be a bit bothersome. However, if we did have kids I bet we would appreciate that speed limit. The price for laundry is a bit outrageous (but the Sacajawea coins made up for it a bit). Red's offers free (satellite based) internet to their patrons, but we didn't find it usable. We struggled to maintain decent connections on both AT&T and Verizon - the signal isn't horrible for either carrier, but the towers seem to be a bit taxed. We were able to work (and steam some video in the evenings), but needed to be very patient from time to time. We chose Red's as it is one of the closest campgrounds to Rochester, NY. However, it is still a 30 minute drive into Rochester. The town of Macedon is cute, however, and the park location is great for access to the Canal Trail (which runs 470 miles from Lockport to Albany) and near to Lock 30. Locks are super freaking cool to watch in action. You can also pop on down to the Finger Lakes Wine/Brew trail pretty easily from this location or over to Fairport to check out one of the best ice cream shops ever - Moonlight Creamery. The best part about Red's? I'd go with the goats that you can touch. Who doesn't love a good touchable goat?
