It was incredibly serene and tranquil. Even during the weekend, perhaps only a handful of cars passed by. Our initial plan was to stay for a couple of days, but we ended up spending four days there.

If it has recently rained, it might be a good idea to leave your vehicle in the city and check the conditions. The road is not well-maintained and features a steep decline in the center. We once set up camp on one side of this decline, and another time we approached from route 177. We preferred the spot closer to route 177 as it was quieter and had excellent T-Mobile reception. Camping along the asphalt road south of the local high school is not permitted, but it seems acceptable to camp beyond the Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) staging area. We set up camp near Road #4, which is nearer to Arnett Canyon trail. There was decent Over-The-Air (OTA) TV reception there, but cell reception was poor. It was slightly alarming that people tend to use the OHV parking area for target practice. The area was littered with trash, and we made three trips to the waste disposal facility, which operates on Fridays and Tuesdays from 8am-2pm. Guillermo allowed us to dispose of our trash without a permit and even provided us with trash bags. We discarded four mattresses. We had no issues with security as we spent most of our days rock climbing in Queen Creek or hiking at Picket Post. We could hear coyotes at night and had hummingbirds visit our feeders. T-Mobile provided either 5G or high-speed LTE.

This place is very serene. You do tend to feel like you are completely alone aside from the highway I can see and hear from my spot. I am staying in the exact coordinates that The_Write_road stayed at. However, the difference is this: Google tried to route me into Arnett Rd from off of Hwy 60. Um, this route is not cool if you have ANY low-lying bits on your RV. My sway control bars have like, seriously, only 5"of clearance. My hitch, when on level ground, has only 11 3/4". Not much to play with. Luckily, my (usual) traveling partner, Marshall, let me know to come in off of 177 like The_Write_road did. He let me know this right as I was coming in the WRONG way and was trying to read their review again on Campendium. Service wasn't good enough there, so I couldn't read a thing. While I was at a 'fork in the road' about to go down treacherous territory, I got his text to get on Arnett from 177. Boy am I glad I didn't try the way Google led me! My photos show the clearance my truck had withOUT the rig attached. Had I gone down N. Telegraph Canyon Rd with my rig, (off 60) I WOULD have gotten stuck. Not from sandy conditions, but from dips in the road where my sway bars would have bottomed out badly. If you have a long 30-something Class A, you could get stuck, I would imagine. I know, I am 'gunshy' from my experience at Badger Creek in Marble Canyon, Az. See THAT review here: https://www.campendium.com/badger-creek-campground Still, I'd rather be safe now than sorry! Therefore, I am letting you know the conditions here that may not be in your favor. There are only a couple of sites down Arnett Rd before the two dips that could stop you. Mine, which are the coordinates listed, and then there's another site down the way on the left that I took a photo of. There's a pretty big area to park, but then there are smaller roads I was afraid to trek upon with my measly 2WD truck. And I am a single chick. Traveling alone. I would like to get into as little trouble as possible, so... I can't be your ambassador here! I have no nuts. If you do come in from Hwy 177, which I highly recommend, you have two main spots to park in and/or turn around safely. Lucky for me, they weren't occupied. It's an amazing spot, for sure. Not many come down the road, the views are supreme, and hell, it's free! I only park in free areas. (even if they are occupied, you likely can turn around. Look at google satellite for more info) There's mountains all around, it's a pretty quiet area, plenty of sun for solar and a little town is just a few miles away. Can't ask for much more! Sure, there's quads in the distance here and there, and road noise here an there. Not enough to complain about. Update: I left on 12/17. Went out the way I came in. My rig's ass DRAGGED HARD when I went back through the dip in the road that I had to cross by getting to the site from 60. It dug hard into rock. I thought my tongue would be the culprit, but nope. Still, I made it. 😳

This is what "boondocking" is all about. Nestled between views of Apache Leap and Picket Post Mountain, this seldom used National Forest land is perfect for those wanting to experience nature at its finest. We set up camp in a sweet little loop with a nice sized Palo Verde tree in the center. I was mesmerized by how the sun played across the sheer cliffs of Apache Leap but equally impressed by the sunsets over Picket Post Mountain. Superior is three miles away with water vending machines, dump at Superior RV Park, groceries, restaurants and hiking/biking trails. If you're adventurous, stop by the Visitor's Center for directions to the historic Pinal City Cemetery, resting place of Celia Blaylock aka Mattie Earp. There are locals who use the area for shooting but they go further back to the base of Picket Post. They also use that area for ATV and Motorcycle riding. It's far enough away that the noise is not an issue. You may get a visit from free range cows and coyotes, however. We camped there five days and the only visitors we had were a bicycling couple who asked for a ride back to their car. They over-estimated the distance of the trail. Directions: From Superior, drive 3 miles south on SR 177. Turn right (west) right on the dirt road right before MM 165. A street sign will say "Arnett Road" which is also FR230. It's a little bumpy going down hill but levels out until you reach 1 mile marker. Suitable for small, medium and larger rigs up to 35'. Good tent camping.

Great views. Saw no trash but did hear shooting across the canyon. Only a couple others out here. Road was a little bumpy but could see where the smooth it out.

The road in is kinda rough, but works if you take it slow. Was able to find a spot with views of surrounding cliffs and mountains. Pretty trashy short distance from our site and the area is popular with target shooters. Solid ATT cell service. Close to small town of Superior.

We are on spring break & suddenly it's snowing up north so my 15year old & I were looking for a spot somewhere not as snowy. Someone on a group mentioned Oak Flat (which is up the road), but Arnett looked to be near water. Negatory. It's not. So it's not far from Superior down 177. Once you exit the highway you're on dirt roads. If you don't have clearance, I'd skip this spot. The farther you go back in the less you will see people. The "roads" do get narrow. I got my 2019 4Runner back there pretty well, but there were a few turns I didn't make on purpose. Found a spot finally (bring a saw for jagger branches) along the creek (it's dry). Built a fire ring from creek rocks & pitched our tent after kicking a few dry cow patties out of the flat area. Sawed down a few small trees to put up my pop up & grabbed a drink. We hiked the hilside across the creek. We just did about a mile loop up & back down. Looks like there were some cottonwood croppings farther up stream that I wish I'd seen. Night fell. There was a ton of fallen firewood that we used. We saw a few fire pits around - all hand made. Once night feel a few planes were overhead from the nearby Superior Airport, and we heard some vehicles nearby. I didn't see anyone at all in the evening. Overnight coyotes were pretty loud howling in the distance, and it was a bit windy. This area is really dirty too. Obviously people have used it as a dumping ground. Not everywhere but enough to remind you of it. There are no shade trees. Shrub trees, high grasses, rocks. Mountains around were gorgeous. What else? I don't think I would be back. Wasn't my cup of tea. Pics attached.

25ft Thor class c e350 chassis Go slow. Lots of the spots are accessible if you’re careful. Survey it first because some spots are difficult to accessand other have trash as predicted but the area is beautiful especially down by the creek. We showed up on a Tuesday and almost all of the sites were empty.

We can't truly recommend this forest service camping area for a variety of reasons: 1. Sites are not very accessible for tow vehicle/trailer rigs. We pull a 21-foot Winnebago with an F150 4X4 and even with high clearance on both the truck and trailer, navigating the ruts and "entrances" to sites was tricky. There is really just one, good flat site that happens to accommodate multiple rigs, but the more private sites are hard to drive in and out of with a trailer. 2. We didn't feel particularly comfortable all alone on Arnett Road. There's a shooting range nearby as others have noted, but the noise from guns firing died down at dusk. The uneasy feeling we had was primarily due to being the only RVers out on this stretch of road - and the many vehicles that traveled up and down the road until well after 10 p.m. 3. The cell service was spotty. We us AT&T and have a Nighthawk hotspot device. While our devices consistently showed three bars, it was slow service (not throttled as we had many GB of use available). So while we can't recommend overnighting on Arnett Road - if you're in the mood to hang out and watch the sun set -- and if you have some neighboring RVers to make you feel a little less isolated -- then check out this free camping area.

We were a little skeptical about this spot from previous reviewers but decided to try anyway because we wanted to ride our OHV. Coming from Phoenix we missed the turn because there is no Mary St. It’s been changed to Panther Dr. We went through Superior to the Hwy 177 entrance. It was much smoother than Panther Dr we found out later. We found a nice spot about 3/4 mile in. There was a little liter and some broken glass but we cleaned it up. We did see a few spots that were really bad with garbage. We arrived on Friday morning and there were no other campers, when we got up Saturday there were more campers. The trails for riding were great. Lots to see. We left our trailer and ATV all day Sunday to visit friends and everything was fine when we got back. We did hear some shooting but it was during the day. Some ATV noise. All in all we had a nice stay.

We have stayed here 2 other times with no major problems. There was lots of broken glass and gunshots during the day. This time, everything was great. We had a perfect spot with a great view. There were gunshots throughout the day and even early morning and late night. A couple of times we had vehicles slow down and drive by slowly but thought nothing of it. Once someone looked like they were going to drive into our site, but backed up and left. We had just woke up on the last morning we were there, and the same car that started to come into our site the day before drove into our site. We went out to see what they wanted. One guy and one girl got out of the car. The guy who had tattoos on his face asked if we mind if they put gas in their car. We told them no problem not wanting to start any problems. Once we were back inside our camper, they threw the gas can at us, went to turn their car around. We couldn't see them from inside the camper for about a minute. We heard them steal our bbq grill and peeled out of the area. Needless to say, we quickly packed up and left not wanting to wait to see if they would come back. With this camping area within 3 miles of the town of Superior, I'm sure these were locals coming to cause trouble. Too bad, we used to love coming here.

We had a terrible experience here. While there is one nice site, the rest are pretty bad so it's a gamble whether you get in. Lots of litter and broken glass in the area, and there was shooting LATE into the night right outside the good campsite almost every night. It also seemed to be a popular party spot for kids on the weekend, there were multiple nights that we went to bed and woke to the sound of loud music and partying far down the road. I didn't find a source for water in the area so we had to fill 6gal jugs with the RO water dispenser at the gas station. The nice site turns into a swamp with a little rain, as does the road in. The rut near the entrance required some road building to get the trailer through on the way out.

My primary and secondary campsites didn't pan out and it was getting late. So I drove the extra 30 miles to stay here for the night and move on to the next campsite. I was not able to find the road into the area from 177, so I drove back to 60 and drove in that way. I have a small 10' cargo trailer conversion, and while I made it through the steep drop through the wash, I can't see how anything larger would make it. It was a bunch of gravel with no shade. The views were nice, but not my idea of a great campsite. I decided not to stay the night there.

This was the only dry camping spot that was recommended for trailers over 35 feet in the area! because of the other reviews I came in off the 177. There was a little dip coming down the hill that my weight distribution hitch dragged on. I went in about 1/2 mile from the dip and found a nice little spot on the left that went back a ways that I nestled into.coming in from the 177 there's three spots on the left that you can turn around into and after that's third spot if you're a travel trailer I personally wouldn't go any further because of the dips in the road. coming in from the 60 right where the pavement ends there is a huge staging area to the left with a dirtbike track which is a great place to camp but then once again I wouldn't take tt farther than that.( not sure if fifth wheel have more play) Coming from somebody that does off-roadIng the roads aren't bad but with mud comes ruts.I drove my truck back there with no problems as long as you stay on the main road you wont get stuck the others are jeep trails! I have metro for cell service and had 3 bars!
