During the initial days of May, we lodged at the Pine Campground, positioned within Navajo Lake State Park, specifically at pitch number 71. The panorama from our site was breathtaking, encompassing the entirety of Navajo Lake, the marina, and a path that led directly to the lake. Our pitch was flat and came equipped with a concrete slab, 30 amp electric hookup, water supply, a picnic table under a shelter, and a fire pit. The washroom facilities, which were clean and well-kept, were conveniently close by and offered complimentary warm showers. Garbage bins were situated at the loop entrance. Our pitch received decent Verizon coverage, with four bars of service. The campground's proximity to the awe-inspiring Aztec Ruins was the main reason for our selection. We eagerly anticipate a lengthier stay at this ideal camping location in the future.

Poorly run. No customer service. No security. People partying till 1am. No cell service or internet as advertised. Internet has been broken for a while. Was planning on staying 7 nights. There arent any phone numbers to call anyone. Aramark corporate needs to replace management and a few employees. Moved to Ancient Cedars. Much nicer place.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, our spot was very secluded and private. We camped at the tent only sites along Pueblo Road. The tent site was clean and not overgrown. No neighbors could be seen from our spot, but the only downside about being on Pueblo Road would have been the traffic from the campers further up the loop. WiFi was available but spotty. The facilities we’re a bit of a walk (maybe 100 yards) from our spot, but the privacy was worth the trade off. Much fanfare was made of the pancake breakfast at the Cafe, but it was ok, not bad or anything just ok. The amenities looked to be heavily used and weren’t dirty, but just dated.

We had the best campsite in our loop with full hook up and some shade. Private site couldn't see any neighbors yet had deer behind the camper several nights. It's nice to stay in the park not sit in lines to come in & out of the park. Nice dark sky at night, it was very quiet in our loop. The Dwellings, Kivas, pot houses were amazing and so many to see. Love the wild horses too. We didn't check out the restrooms we use our own. We didn't have cell service unless you go into the visitor center or where you check in the campground still couldn't connect to Wi Fi there. Gas up before you get close the prices of gas are high in this area especially in the park.

I have to echo the comments posted by the reviewer who said “meh”. I’ve been on the road full time for 15 months and this is the worst campground I’ve been to yet. Bird droppings on the water spigots that are left there for who knows how long. Waist and chest high weeds in and around the campsites. The campground sits on a hill side yet no attempt made to level any of the sites. They make a point of telling you that wifi is free yet it doesn’t even work in the parking lot at the registration office. I initially paid for 2 nights site unseen but changed my mind and only stayed one. Woke up, went to Cliff Palace and got out of there. Won’t be back.

It is certainly not the nicest campground but the location is ideal for exploring Mesa Verde NP. We saw a bobcat wandering the campground when we pulled in, which was pretty cool. The proximity to the dwellings is awesome. Be sure to visit the Visitor's Center as soon as you arrive to get tickets for different tours. The tours are amazing but you are required to register the morning of. There are a few tours that you can book online before your arrival. Be sure to check into that, especially if you are going during a heavy travel time.

On arrival no full hook up left but once paid you choose your own site. Lets just say good luck with a travel trailer trying to find a site that is long enough ( we are only 20”) and level. Because of rain the ground was very boggy. Not much to do in site. Hiked up point look out for sunset which was nice. Great views. The campsite could use a bit a of work. But if you are only here for mesa verde it doesn’t matter much about site. FYI. Book tours ahead of time as you won’t get in same day

This is our 3rd stay here, this time we were in Hopi Loop close to the entrance of the loop. This is a dry camping loop so we chose this site to utilize our solar, we were also close to the WiFi repeater. We did use the campground WiFi on occasion but also we’re able to get 1-3 Mgbts on our T-Mobile Hot Spot.

This is a beautiful campground with very wide spread out sites, vault toilets, and water (hand pump). All sites have a picnic table and a fire ring, about half of them have also a pagoda. It's next to the Dolores river. It also has a day use area with a boat ramp. The fee for one night is $8 ($4 with lifetime senior pass and possibly other passes). When I was there in September 2022 the place was almost empty. I will go back there when I'm again in the area. To get there you have to drive about 6 miles from US 491 (going from Cortez, CO to Monticello, UT) on very well maintained dirt roads.

Probably the worst national Park campground ever. Very little privacy. Very little upkeep. The dry wild grasses were growing into the fire pit. Is that a spot? It has a grill...but does not look like a spot. The showers are a days hike from the campground. You know when you fall asleep regretting where you camped and can’t wait to wake up and leave? That’s this place. The dump stations are nice tho!

We had a very nice site in the Apache loop. Site was open with good views. Just took a few blocks to get level. Wifi worked very well. Restroom was clean. We walked to the amphitheater (about a 10 minute walk) for the evening program. Very quiet at night. Free showers about a mile away next to the registration building. Two separate dump stations (also with potable water) in the campground. Rate reflects senior discount.

Well, you can't beat the location. Being inside the park is probably the biggest thing going for this campground. Being 10-15 minutes closer to the tours than the next closest campgrounds makes a difference. We stayed at one of the 15 full hookup campsites and while it wasn't amazing, it met our needs for our 1 night stay. We were in the Ute Loop. Our site was level, back-in, graveled, sparce, shadeless and rather blah. But, we did have fantastic wifi, saw a bunch of deer, enjoyed a nice sunrise and all-in-all, it wasn't bad and for the price for full hookups inside the park, I felt it was fair. The village area is pretty robust. Gas station (that didn't work when I was there in June), showers, laundry, restaurant (specialty seems to be all-u-can-eat pancakes for $8/pp), ranger station, gift shop and a pretty good grocery store are all offered at the entrance to the campground. I was most impressed with the grocery store as they had wine and craft beer which is a hard find on the road. We got there at noon the first day and were able to get tour tickets to 3:00 Balcony House, 5:00 Cliff Palace and 9:00 the next morning Long House. I wouldn't have done it any other way and recommend this schedule if you only have 24 hours. I'd stay here again but only to be close to the park...not because the park is amazing. Check out our blog in the link above for a much more thorough review.

As others have noted, Morefield campground has areas that are overgrown and sites that appear abandoned. The Wifi is spotty but cell service is adequate, but if you are visiting a National Park you're not there for connectivity, you are there for beauty, quiet, stillness and night skies filled with stars. Even in July we were happily surprised at small crowds in Mesa Verde compared to the bigger parks such as Grand Canyon and Yellowstone.

I knew going in that we couldn't expect any cell connectivity. I also knew that the $30 price was relatively high for a dry site in a national park. The trade-off was location. It's 15 minutes closer to the sights of Mesa Verde than anything else. What I didn't expect was the overgrown facilities. The campground had been laid out with asphalt roads and gravel pads. Many of the pads were now overgrown. Much of the grass was belly-high to a horse, making the place look like no one cared. Not what I'd expect for a $30 price tag. Since we had our geezer pass in hand, the 50% discount got the price to about where it should be - $15. They advertised WiFi in the campground. Many of the restrooms did have access points mounted on the eaves but even standing within 5 feet, signal strength was 3 bars at best but it really didn't matter since their router couldn't get to a DNS server. Other locations in the park did have good public wifi, but the campground wasn't working. Many of the sites were artificially short with curb stops limiting the space. Even with our limited lenth, we wouldn't fit in 50% of the spaces. It was interesting watching the 28' TT or 35' Class A units circling the campground, trying to find something they'd fit in. Meanwhile, on July 5th, the campground was less than 20% (likely closer to 10%) full.

We tore up the ground trying to get into our spot, though we've got exceptionally low clearance. I even broke the hitchball that secures our sway bar in place trying to maneuver into our spot. That's right, I broke the hitchball and was still able to go hiking a few hours later. I'm just a man like that, what can I say. Where is my spittoon again...? Anyway, it snowed. That was unexpected. And it was then hot. That was welcome. Mesa Verde is a gorgeous park but it's also crazy windy and while I figured it was just par for the course when our first child blew away, I started considering my retirement plan of mooching off of the youngsters as the second one disappeared into a cliffside dwelling hole never to be seen again. Still, I'd return, I think I might just wait until we've popped out 10 or 15 more younginz. Oh, oh, oh though I should mention, in the "on season" (when all of those wild and crazy kids who live in the hills of southwestern Colorado seep out of the woodwork, leave their quads behind and come up here to get rowdy with a good, debaucherous ranger program) there's a gas station very nearby, and a camping store with everything from magnets touting the wonders of Mesa Verde's past to your typical gas station fare.

We camped here in the off season, and for $20 a night we'd love to have at least water. Despite all the signs telling you the campground is closed, you can in fact stay here before the concierge officially opens. However, the dump station and all the water spigots are closed, although the bathrooms are open. It's definitely cheaper than the RV parks in town (those were closer to $45) and not having to drive 30 extra minutes into the park is a bonus. There are some great hiking trails right from the campground, but the ruins and everything else are another long haul up the road (no trailers allowed). There aren't many sites that can accommodate even a 27' Airstream, so we drove around for awhile until we found one we liked. We pulled some magic with our directional antenna and cell booster and managed to pull in 3 bars of Verizon 4G, although it does vary a bit. Our cell phones roam to AT&T and its spotty, but we occasionally get coverage inside the campground. I can imagine how green this place would be in the summer! We'll just have to come back!

Hard to imagine mor cars parked in a smaller space except perhaps at a Walmart. Crowed and sterile. Barely out of Durango so ok if the city is your destination. If you are looking for a pleasant outdoor environment, keep looking. Clean enough but sterile. Constant highway noise which might be better at another location within the park.

We stayed here in early July, staff did a great job at check-in. The site was fairly level, and we had water/electric hookup. Fair distance between sites as well, though our area had no foilage for privacy (many do). Showers up near camp store (too far to hike to) were clean and had good hot water. Our biggest disappointment was the bathrooms at the campsites, while having flush toilets and sinks, had no soap, hand sanitizer, nor any way to dry your hands. For all the concern about spreading germs (Visitor Center closed, etc) we were surprised to have no soap to wash your hands after using the toilet. One other thing; the campground is run by a vendor (Aramark) and you cannot apply a Park Pass discount when you make reservations via the internet. We found out (we modified our campsite at check-in) that the Senior Park Pass could be applied if you made reservations via phone, or in person.

The park itself is great. Lots to do and great fishing in the San Juan river. We stayed at Juniper camp ground at site J139. It took about 30 min to maneuver in but finally made it with zero scratches. I have a 38’ toy hauler. There aren’t very many sites at Juniper that can accommodate a rig this big. Plus exiting was also a challenge. From this site it’s not easy getting down to the lake as it’s a steep hike down. There are no hook ups at this site but no problem for us. Three bars AT&T and three bars Verizon.

Our stay at Morefield was amazing. The site was mostly level. We were the only campers on our half of the loop the first two nights. Within walking distance of hiking trails. Deer frequented our area. Clean bathrooms located nearby. There is little to no shade. The showers are not within walking distance of most sites. An awesome base camp to experience Mesa Verde. Wi-Fi was very spotty and phones did not work.

The Morefield campground is located on a hillside in a series of loops with back-in parking. Our loop had full hookups which was a welcome feature. The sites are fairly level but may require assistance to make it perfect. Sites are separated by foliage which affords some shade and privacy. We found our site to be quiet and scenic. The deer who visited in the evening also enjoyed the tranquility. Cell coverage at the site was minimal with our booster but quite good near the General Store/laundry/gas station nearby. There are showers/restroom facilities down the hill from the campsite but we did not try them. Of course the main attraction here is the park itself. Amazing history and terrain to explore. This is a great place to stay while enjoying Mesa Verde National Park.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We couldn’t get level in our spot (our fault for not having leveling blocks) and they moved us to another site. Close to town, but still felt secluded. My only critique is that there wasn’t a place to walk our dog besides the RV park. The river is nearby, but there is no access. There is a beautiful tent camping area, but dogs are not allowed. We didn’t use laundry or bathroom facilities so I can’t rate those.

This is a nice, well-maintained campground in a pretty setting. Easy access from Route 550 with good signage. Checkin was efficient. The owners are super nice and hard-working. The roads and sites are crushed stone. Roads are easy to navigate for big rigs and were watered daily during our stay. The RV sites are a good size with a picnic table. There are mature trees for shade at many sites. The tent sites are grassy and shaded, and beyond are green fields, the river, and red cliffs. Although the campground is near the highway, there is no bothersome road noise since the campground is set downhill from the road. There is a trolley that runs on a regular schedule to downtown Durango. Utilities all worked as expected. No trouble getting level. Good T-mobile signal and WiFi. The laundry was clean and well provisioned. The Durango & Silverton RR passes by a couple times a day (not at night). This is our second stay and we’ll be back next year!

We love that this campground is in the Mesa verde park. Spaces are spread apart so you never seem crowded. We were there in May so the park was quiet and the weather cool. Hookups at the site were good. Some sites are shaded but ours was not. There is a camp store and a cafe serving breakfast every morning but we didn’t use it. Camp showers were adequate according to my hubby. I used our rv shower. I didn’t expect the Wi-Fi to be any good but it was fairly good in the daytime, not so good at night. We would definitely stay here again.

Fortunately we got here early with our 40' 5er - not many spots for big rigs. They take reservations for dry camping but not for particular spots - the spots are FF. There is a loop with full hook ups but we could not get a spot there. Bath house in our loop was very clean - toilet and sink only. The showers are by the general store/laundry/check in area. The ride into and up to the campground is not for the feint of heart - very windy and steep. No T-Mobile service, we got spotty wi-fi on our AT&T router. There are two dump stations with potable water. Beautiful view of the mountains on all sides Unhook and take a day trip to the cliff dwellings within the park. Lots of hiking opportunities as well! The need to do some branch trimming and hole filling on the corners. Will definitely be back.

We are here about 15 days or so before the campground officially opens up for the spring/summer. We haven't even explored the park yet but this off season stuff is awesome. The wifi eminates from the bathrooms and even though we are about 100 yards away from it, the wife is using it for zoom meetings now. About 10mb down and 2 up. I'm also getting enough AT&T to stream YouTube tv in 480p, using a mifi hotspot and small stick to window type antenna. I read where most don't get any reception and maybe because the leaves aren't out on the trees yet, but AT&T with antenna is working good. I also imagine the wifi may possibly be slow during the season when many people are using it. Anyway, again amazing campground just before the season! Bathroom heated and clean. About 10 campers here. Only Zulu (something like that) is open but probably at least 50 sites. About 20 or so for 35ft rigs or less. I wouldn't do this off season in a 40ft fifth wheel, but class a's would be doable.

Do you have children? Do they love trains? No? What's wrong with your kids? If you've got young boys like mine, honest American patriots who love trains like campfire smoke loves eyeballs, then you'll absolutely probably kinda like this place! There is little else to report, except an old time trolley that you can catch somewhat regularly down into Durango proper, which is a very cool town full of bars and breweries and toy shops and the kind of laid back vibe one might expect from most Colorado towns but which is often lacking in this corner of the Centennial State. Oh and I also saw an old Indian riding an even older Indian motorcycle, all while wearing a getup I'm sure came straight out of Slash's wardrobe.

United Campground in Durango is set in the woods with beautiful views AND all the amenities you would want while camping. Initially we booked just one night at United in Oct. 2014 coming on a recommendation from two or three other previous campers. It was getting towards the end of season and a few of the Durango campgrounds were closed. I left a voicemail for the office and received a prompt call back notifying me that they'd hold a site in our name. The location was easy to find and not too far from downtown. Our one night stay turned in to three because we were having such a great time in Durango. The staff was very accommodating of our request. The grounds were clean, there was lovely shade trees all throughout, and great views. The Durango-Silverton historic passenger train comes right through the middle of camp bringing many campers to gather `round, take photos, and wave. (The train comes through in the later morning and early evening and is only a few cars long. It usually only honks it's horn once or twice. It's nostalgic, not an annoyance.) RV spots with full hook up were towards the front of camp and tent camping was in the back half of camp on the other side of the train tracks. The bathrooms were clean and not crowded - three shower stalls and three toilet stalls in the main building. The second bathroom location was closed for season but that did not pose any problems. I used the laundry facility and was a little dismayed that two separate dryers didn't completely dry my clothes. They have a machine to exchange dollars for quarters and laundry soap for sale. There is a pool, though closed in the winter, and a game room that we did not visit. Supplies are on hand if you need basic toiletries or souvenirs in their shop at the main desk. Wifi was EXCELLENT - fast and reliable. There is an on-site trash dumpster but no recycling. United Campgrounds is definitely a place I would recommend and would stay there again should we ever find ourselves in Durango.

Several of the Durango Silverton steam powered trains pass through the campground in the morning and evening. Fun to watch. A trolley bus stops on the road adjacent to the campground every 20 minutes and will take you to downtown Durango. Sites close to the highway have moderate traffic noise. One pedestal serves adjacent sites so one RV is always parked close to the pedestal. The trailer next to us was about 6 feet away. Fortunately neither of us had slides or tried to put out an awning. Laundry room looked clean although we did not use.

Yes, they pack in the big rigs, but it’s shady, has a pool, and the location is great. The train runs right through the park so it’s fun for the kids. They were able to totally turn around my impression. My 3 year old put pennies on the track and we accidentally left them on our picnic table. They graciously sent them in the mail. Our little guy was elated when they arrived today. I appreciate their willingness to make that happen! We were able to take the last two spots they had available. The sites were very large, bathrooms were clean and the pool was a huge perk. Prices are very high but relative for the area. We were frustrated by the fact that they couldn’t tell us if we would be able to stay for two nights or not until checkout on what would be our second day. They need a much better system to determine availability.

Durango Silverton RR runs through the campground 0800 to 1700 or so, so no intrusion at all (adds to the ambience). Only minor complaint would be traffic noise from 550, but it is very tolerable and lightens up in the evening. Definitely will come back to United.

This is an older campground but kept in very good condition by the staff. Sites were shaded from sun most of day. Property is nestled between two mountains so the views are excellent. The property is naturally terraced on three levels, making the landscape pleasant to look at. The tent camping grassy area was so green and shaded. I’ve rarely seen such a nice tent camping area. It’s located in a safe area of town, and less than 5 minutes from Main Street. The narrow-rail train passing through the campground property during the day was really fun and memorable. Bathrooms/showers are older but very clean and well maintained. Laundry room had plenty of washers and dryers, all in good working condition. Wifi was present but extremely slow speed that I chose to use my cell phone as a hotspot instead. Lots of families here. Very quiet at night. This is a great family campground that I would definitely stay at again.

We stayed here for 1 week en route from Northern AZ to central CO. As full timers we prioritize convenience to town, dog friendliness, access to trails, and of course internet and WiFi. This was very convenient to town—where we loved the off leash dog park right on the river! We would have loved it if this campground had a dog run. They don’t allow dogs to cross the tracks and even walk (on leash) in the tent area which would have been nice as there were no trails nearby and we just had to walk our very energetic lab in circles around the campground. Thankfully there were lots of other dogs she could say hi to. We understand why dogs aren’t allowed in the tent area of course. The campground is beautifully situated between 2 mountains and on the river—outstanding views. Nice laundry and bath house which were open during COVID with precautions. Cell service was decent but not fantastic. Their WiFi was unusable and they were very open to feedback about that — one of the groundskeepers was driving around doing speed tests to try and fix things. The grounds were kept very tidy and they watered down the gravel driveways several times daily to mitigate dust. Easy access to several trails — we loved going north and hiking near Purgatory resort and also stopping at James Ranch for dinner. In town businesses did a nice job following CDC guidelines for COVID.

To us, this was the perfect tent camping spot, next to a large running creek, fire pit, and QUIET! There were some families down at site #1 and #2, but at our spot #6 was far enough away that we did not see or hear them. Since we were on our motorcycles, the road getting there off the highway was about 5 miles paved and the last mile to mile and 1/2 was packed dirt. Easy on our big Harley’s, we just went slow and no problems.

Most people stay here only to see Mesa Verde. There are many sites, so you really don't need a reservation. There are hot showers, laundry and a nice camp store. There are flush toilets and water at the toilets. The full hook up sites have all that you need for a short stay to visit the National Park. There are bears here, so beware. The Mesa Verde sights are about 28 miles away from the campground which is still located in the national park, so plan at least an hour to get to your tours from Morehead. There is no bus to take you there. There is room at some of the sites for a Class C (25 ft) in the parking lots, and some have bus parking that works for a Class A if you don't have a toad. You will need to get your tour tickets at the visitor center before entering the park.

We know that National Parks are normally not set up for larger rigs, and this one is no exception. We found a spot and managed to squeeze in our 36' toy hauler. There were about 5 spots that would have been OK and several that would have been very tight but possible. The roads in the campground are tight, sites are dated and few are level. There were no hookups at this site, as with most in the park, but there are two dump stations nearby with potable water. This was not a problem as we are used to boondocking in the forest and desert. There are free showers located at the store a couple of miles from the campground and flush toilets located throughout the campground. This is bear country so there are plenty of bear resistant trash receptacles and the park is very clean, as far as trash and clutter. Visits by local Mule Deer and a handful of Wild Turkeys made for a pleasant experience. We stayed in early September, so the temperatures were mid to high 80's during the day and mid 30's to mid 40's at night. Some light rain and monsoon thunder storms, thankfully in the distance only. The tours are excellent, educational and can be rather physical. Tours were $5.00 each and well worth the fee. We had a lifetime NP pass so entry was free and camping was discounted. We would definitely stay here again.

We had site (187). Very quiet with lots of deer. The sunsets were fantastic, water pressure ( our site ) was weak at best. No problems otherwise. Check in was quick and easy. Camp store well stocked. The $5 tours are well worth it. Cliff House tour is best taken in the morning the afternoon sun was intense. ( David was our guide INCREDIBLE. ) The700 year tour was pricy but informative. If you are familiar with Pueblo history, I’d save the $.

It's a shame that the NPS has to contract out the management of the campgrounds. Rude lady at the check-in located in the Morefield Village Gift Shop. We made a reservation via phone on the day we arrived but that does not mean you reserve a spot. They show you where to look for one. There were several sites available and we picked one, but many are not very level and shade can be a bit sparce. Dry camping but potable water available at the dump station just before you get to the site loops, so top off with water there before you find your site. There are showers, laundry, cafe, and gas station located in the Village. However, as you might imagine, gas prices were highly marked up from what you will find on the highway. The park itself is well worth a visit. However, make sure you don't arrive at the various sites towards the end of the day as the volunteers don't want you on the trails anywhere near closing time. So, probably best to see the different sites in the morning. With a National Lifetime Senior Pass its cheap enough and certainly close to the sites and miles off the main highway.

Nice to be close to the attractions. Not much privacy at the full hookup sites. I think we envisioned that these spots would be more spread out. But all our neighbors were nice. Lots of deer in the area. Zero cell signal with t-mobile. Museum and visitor center are closed because of COVID-19. Well stocked gift shops.

Went to the main store when we arrived at Mesa Verda, and was surprised that there were so many sites available on a Saturday in mid-May. Most other national parks are sold out months out. There are three main loops: tent campers (RVs OK but no generators), RV with hookups, and RV dry camping. There were no sites in the RV sites with hookups, so we went to the "Hopi" loop (RV dry camping). Sites are on the small side (typical of NPS sites designed in the 1960's), a bit more closely spaced than I would have expected, and not very level. But they had picnic tables and a fire pit, and ours was surrounded on two sides by scrub oak. But lots of sites to choose from, and if you're visiting Mesa Verde, this was far more convenient and than nearby US Forest Service sites. Only down side was the number of generators. Our neighbor across the road was running a loud one from 7 am to 10 pm. Lots of others, too, though not as long or loud.

This is a very nice camp right in the national park. It is dry camping with sites that have varying depths. When you make a reservation, you don't book a specific site, so when you arrive, you need to cruise the loops and find "the one" that you think is most attractive. There were many nice sites to choose from when we arrived. We have a 24' class C and there were many open sites that would have fit our unit. If you have a travel trailer or longer class C, it may be challenging to find a workable site. A full sized 5th wheel or Class A, probably would not fit anywhere. A water spigot was available at the bathrooms. There is also wifi emanating from the bathrooms. We were ~150 ft from one bathroom, and the Wifi was very useable for light browsing. There are 3 nice hiking trails leaving from the campground. Two of them climb the surrounding hills and give you fantastic 360 views of the surrounding area. The real draw to the park are the ancient Pueblo sites. The Step House site on the Wetherill Mesa is the only one that was open to the public, without a special tour. Try to book a tour to see whatever House is open for tours when you are there. We were able to get a tour of the Longhouse on Wetherill Mesa. The tours are only $8, however, it is very tough to book them, as they go incredibly fast. I got on the NPS website slightly early and put the desire timeslot tour tickets in my "Cart", however, by the time I was able to checkout, they were "sold out", I changed timeslots and was able to grab tickets on the last tour of the day. I would say that all tickets were gone in ~20 seconds, after they were opened to order. The Museum was closed due to Covid when we were there.

We were supposed to be in Mesa Verde for 2 nights, but only stayed 1 due to some truck problems. I called and let them know we were not cancelling but we’re going to miss the 1st night, they thankfully didn’t charge me for the 2nd night which was very nice of them. We had the ONLY full hook up site in the Pueblo tent loop which was kind of weird. We are very experienced RVers and had the hardest time leveling our camper. Besides that, we enjoyed seeing all the deer.

Off season (early Oct) there is not much on offer here and only one loop of the massive campground was open, and all sites got taken by dusk. No hookups, no dump available, no water available. Dry camping and an older looking restroom bldg we didn't enter. Bit of a hike to throw out the trash before bed. But it's in the park and despite less than ideal right site right along roadside, it was quiet and usable once we leveled. No Verizon signal at campsite but intermittent along MV roads and slow wifi at welcome center.

Arrived Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and this place was a zoo. Every site was full with so many huge rigs and big boats that the campground was bursting at the seams. By Monday afternoon the campground was 2/3 empty and much more pleasant. Our site was near the top of a hill overlooking the marina, among juniper trees that afforded some privacy. Other sites were basically just wide open parking spaces, so thoughtful site selection is important here. Not sure we’d rush back if our friends didn’t have a boat. The location is convenient to Aztec Ruins and Salmon Ruins, but getting to this state park from anyplace else is a lengthy drive. Note: as of June 1, 2021, showers are still closed due to COVID. Won’t be surprised if cash-strapped New Mexico “forgets” to restore many of these amenities for quite some time…

Beautiful setting but the park is showing it’s age. The RV sites are small, my 28 ft 5th wheel stuck into the street. Sites along the water are scenic, all the other sites are not! Not worth the out of the way drive IMO.

I stayed here for 28 days in one month actually, I took the mandated break of 6 days between stays. I came back for a second stay because of the peace and tranquility of the park. I highly recommend this park. The rate I paid for the water and electric hookup is with the $225.00 non resident annual New Mexico pass I purchased several months ago. The pass is well worth it. I'm a full timer spending the winter here in beautiful New Mexico. The only reason I gave the access rating only 4 stars is that the front sign is overgrown with shrubs in the direction I came from driving over the dam. I tow my car and had to go through the natural gas fields to turn around when I missed the entrance. The head ranger is not paying attention. Don't trust Google Maps Navigation app to get you into the park.

In a 28ft fifth wheel, plenty of room for trailer and tow vehicle. Site offers a view and great privacy for a campground. Well kept area. Water and elec site. Trail to waters edge but is small and steep. Rented boat from marina. Nice marina with super nice employees. Lake is beautiful. Site availability is a little confusing at first but one of the employees stopped what he was doing and loaded me into his utv and rode me around the area and explained everything. Would stay here again for sure. It’s a good way out of town so plan ahead. It is about 45 minutes to Durango which is an excellent day trip.

We stayed here before and during Thanksgiving 2017. We got the only site that would fit our 42' class A, yes the campground is very tight, but we did manage to navigate it, only a scratch or two. If you are a big rig be aware you must approach from the north (via CO) due to the low weight (12 tons) dam/spillway bridge. We pretty much had the place to ourselves given the time of year. The campground and setting is nice, we loved the peace and tranquility that allowed us to get some work done. I imagine in warmer months 'tranquility' would not be the case.

Beautiful area. The campground host was great. Very informative. The ranger at the visitor center was really nice and knowledgeable, too. The cons: older campground that needs some TLC. Sites are very close to each other. This makes it a bit confusing on whose picnic table and grill is whose. If you get a site with a sewer, make sure you bring a LONG hose, as the hookup is at the back of the parking pad. The bathrooms in the campground need some help. They were neglected and I don’t think they’re cleaned very often. When we arrived, the host greeted us, but I picked up at least 20 cigarette butts and a quite a bit of litter, as we set up camp. I imagine lots of fishermen stay here in the summer, but if you don’t fish, the park itself doesn’t have many trails or paths for hiking or biking. I feel bad this review is more negative than positive, but with a little clean up of litter and cleaning up the bathrooms, it’d be a 4 star.

We have come here three years in a row as we wander South and West. The fly fishing is fantastic. Not sure why the one poster said definitely not for big rigs? We’re 38’ and while we can’t fit in all the sites, we’ve never not found a spot. They recently started requiring reservations at some of the sites. We have the Annual Camping Pass, and tend to stay here in three sets of 14 days. You have to leave for six days in between. We pull in frontwards in the back in sites overlooking the lake so the view is great. At $4 a night, or $14 without the annual pass, $225, it’s a bargain to have hookups. We generally stay 60 days or more in New Mexico so, our average cost comes out to about $8 a night. The only issues I have are that we can’t cross the dam because of weight restrictions, so it makes a long trip in if coming from the south. From the north you can come right in. The other issue is that there seems to be a fair number of people that don’t pick up after their dogs. Pretty minor, but an annoyance at times. Christmas Navajo Lake SP Navajo Lake SP Fall

A highlight of the park experience - when you come into from the east, you get the experience of driving over the 400ft high dam. Yes, you drive directly on top, narrow two-lane road....quite the pucker factor - wow! Spaces are tight, but had no issues with my 34 footer. The Marine is short hike down (steep), unless you are a wuss and drive down. Cellular - Verizon 8dn/15 up, AT&T 18 dn, 10 up - pretty good Some great hiking - one little gem is the caves - walk down the road that goes to the Pinon Loop. At the bottom of the first big ravine, look up in to the left and you will see two caves. The hike is a bit of a challenge, primitive trail, but worth it - about a 30 minute hike to get to the caves. Lots of Elk scat!

This place is fantastic for people who like to fish or enjoy boating. Some sites have full hook ups, while others are only missing sewer but there is a dump station on site. Ideal for smaller rigs. Lots of unlevel spots. A nice playground is available for the kids. Bathrooms and showers on site. Marina only a short drive away. Grocery store is another short drive from the park. Most spots don’t have a lot of shade, and our AC was working overtime during the day!

We enjoyed our stay here. The park is very clean and our site was spacious. Beautiful views down the valley and the Durango-Silverton Steam Train runs thru camp 3 times a day. So cool to hear the train whistle and wave to all the passengers. The only downside is that our cell signal was very weak, even with our booster, which made it difficult to work. If we return to the area and do not have to work, this will be the place we stay.

Spent only 1 night. Wish it was more. Amazing spread out sites. Clean, but can't vouch for toilets as didn't use. The Delores River was crystal clear and gorgeous with deep enough spots for a nice dip if you aren't from Arizona & can handle cold water, LOL! Sites have Ramadas over the tables but few trees. I think my site #6 is best as it is right on River & has nice tree shade. see pic. I had 4g 1 bar Verizon, outside my AS. Inside AS with cell booster took it to 4g 4 bar. cell service must have improved since last reviewer in 2019. No trash pick up here so please take yours out. Seems most folks do. But, why oh why must some leave their metal wire marshmallow sticks behind? Jerks! The road in becomes gravel & is dusty but very navigable and no washboard as well as a short drive. All sites are large and, mine at least was level. Enjoy!

First time I've written a review before leaving. As we tow a car with our motor home, at check-in we asked for a pull through and was charged $34 for a campsite that isn't long enough; still had to disconnect. The water spickot is too low to accommodate our H2O filter. The Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad wanted $180 for two on a shortened, two hour route not going to Stirling. Reserve by phone and drive 10 miles from United CG to board. The men's shower is "closed for the season." The CG is barbed wire-fenced with no direct access to the Anamis River. The tent site section is grass; the rest is uneven stones. The Anaimis Valley views are great. Durango is a neat area, but we'll find another CG when we return; can't recommend United Campground.

This is a very nice campground. It’s adjacent to Rt. 550, so it’s easy to access, but since the campground is set down from the highway there’s no road noise. Pretty views of mountains and pastures. The Durango Steam Train goes by a couple of times a day. It’s fun to watch it go by and wave. The train doesn’t run at night so no problem with it interrupting sleep. Close to downtown Durango and the Animas River walk/bike trail. Staff is friendly and check-in went smoothly. Interior roads are crushed stone and level. The corners are tight, but do-able with care in our 40 foot motorhome. Sites are a decent size with a crushed stone landing pad and grassy area with a picnic table. There are mature trees for shade. The park is very well maintained. We had a full hook up pull through site. Water, sewer, and electric worked with no issues. WiFi was good. T-mobile was weak but useable. We enjoyed our stay very much and will be back next spring.

Very clean and quiet campground. We traveled with 2 grandsons. Pool was perfect. I like the upper part under the shady trees better than the pull through with the big rigs. Beautiful view of the river and mountains. The only negative is that the sites are really close together. Biked to town with 10 year old grandson which was very doable. WiFi works fine. It’s so much fun to see the train come through. I suggest to add umbrellas by the pool as there is no shade.

Full hook-ups. Sites are crushed gravel, and reasonably level. Close to each other, but not too tight. Many of the sites are in wonderful shade under massive trees, but there are some that are more exposed to open sunlight. The tradeoff is that the sites with less shade have a much better view of the train as it goes by, and quickest access to the grassy area for dog walking. Our power and water pedestal was shared with the site next to us; everything in great working order. Warning: there was a SLIGHT taste to our water, but we aren't sure if that was the campground, or the new hose we were using. Quiet times were respected by all. It would be helpful if the reservations clerk could let campers know that there are TWO ways to enter the campground off Hwy 550. Depending on the size of your rig, one of the entrances might be easier than the other. Check-in went smoothly; the staff at this park are still (as of June 13, 2021) being very cautious and careful about COVID protocols - we were asked to wear masks in the office/store. (NOT a problem for us, but took some other folks from other, more "open" states by surprise.) My only "criticism" is more of a suggestion for future improvements. This campground could be greatly enhanced by making the grassy area between the lower sites and the railroad tracks into a fenced dog park. The choices of places to walk and exercise your dog there in the park are rather limited, and unless you stick to that grassy area, you either have to go up out of the campground onto the street and walk along the edge (scary and not safe!), or just keep circling around the edges of the park. But the large grassy area between the sites and the tracks, if fenced and set up properly, would provide a SPLENDID dog area! BTW, Durango does have a wonderful dog park near the intersection of Hwy 150 and 660 - lots of trails to explore, the river to splash in, and space to run and run! Best to go early in the day during summer months because it can get really hot. AND, the locals know that the best access and parking is actually at the far end of the Holiday Inn Express parking lot! One of our favorite things about this campground is that you get to experience the Durango Narrow Gauge train several times a day! The train track LITERALLY runs past the campground, and each time it comes through, you have a wonderful opportunity to watch the train go by. The loud train whistle can be startling, but watching a steam engine travel past is such a fun experience, and part of what makes Durango so memorable!

This is a very nice place and is maintained wonderfully. The spots are mostly level and not a big deal to level out. It is a little tight but not horrible and we were easily able to pull into our spot with our 39 foot fifth wheel. The check-in staff lady was very friendly and answered my questions. Having the train run through the campground is awesome and everyone waves as it goes by! We did the full day excursion and it was wonderful. Durango is a great little town to visit. We took the trolly into town and it costs $1 or $.50 for seniors. There is a great app for your phone so you can see where the trollys are. Verizon coverage was not good. I did put up our 25ft Cell Phone antenna and the got us from 1 bar to 2-3 bars, so it was usable and was able to stream a college football game. The in-park WIFI was ok, but slow during busy times, which they all are, so no surprise. I am sure if we return to Durango, this is where we will stay!
