Shangri-La Trailhead & Campground – États-Unis

This is a lovely spot for a quiet natural experience in central Florida. No hookups but water is available. It is Kierkegaard shady, it’s horse-friendly so you may encounter their waste but we didn’t find it a problem. Friendly and helpful staff. A very “chill” place for a quiet respite and exploring the area, along with nearby Ross Prairie which is another nice spot (with hookups)

I spent 3 weeks between these three campgrounds in order to fully explore the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway. All three of these campgrounds are great. Santos and Ross Prairie have W/E sites and all three have dump stations. Water is available at Shangri-La and the sites are quite large since many of them are set up for horse trailers. The layout here is essentially a big number "8" with the sites starting at 1 immediately to the right as you enter past the office and doing a full circle to site 18. Sites 19-24 are across the midsection. There are lots of tall trees so nearly all sites have at least partial shade (sites 18/19/20 might be the most open). The sites on the northwest side and center (3-8, 21-24) are very shaded. Of course, this is winter so some sites might be brighter when the sun is higher. Some campers were using generators but it was barely noticeable unless you were right on top of them. Most sites are quite level and furnished with a fire ring, picnic table, lamp post, and highlines for horses. The bike and hiking path to the main (paved) greenway is immediately opposite site 24 and is essentially 1 mile to the paved Greenway that runs 16 miles from SR200 (Ross Prairie) to Santos. In addition, there are multiple horse trails, the Cross Florida Hiking Trail, and several mountain bike trails, all very well marked. Hard to believe all this is in the midst of suburban sprawl. Santos seems to be the most consistently filled though all 3 fill on the weekends. Access to both Ross Prairie and Santos are an easy turnoff from main roads, but Shangri-La literally takes you through the back streets of a suburban neighborhood. My $18/day rate doesn't include the additional fees & taxes. Getting OTA channels was difficult at best and with the tree cover, using satellite was hit or miss depending on where you are. Cellular signals for AT&T and T-Mobile were excellent hitting 100 down & 10-20 up most of the time.

Very friendly host and the bathrooms and showers are great. There is potable water and a dump station for RVs. No hookups, but they allow generators during the day. You can make your reservation online.

It’s not very big, but it’s definitely cute! Camp host was very friendly, they have to volunteers living on the campgrounds. They have showers & bathrooms! Also, they allow horses & pets. Fire pit & picnic benches at every spot. Not too far from town, but secluded enough! Our spot was very secluded & had TONS of room. Could easily have two -three tents per spot. Plus somewhere to put a hammock & clothes line.

Fun mountain biking, hiking, and horse trails. A day use area just outside the gate for folks with horses. Quiet after generator hours (hence the 3 stars). Pet friendly. A great place to camp until it gets hot here in FL. No electricity at any sites (water hookup only) which makes it miserable when the temperature gets much above 80 outside and creates excessive noise during generator hours. I really like this site, but you won't find me here between May and November. Due to the lack of power, some folks feel the need to run their generators from 7:59am - 10:01pm (ok, maybe my clock was a minute off); not kidding - two folks during my last stay did exactly that, and the temperature was perfect at 78/57. TURN. OFF. YOUR. LIGHTS. (not just this campsite, but all campsites). Hey, my trailer looks cute with my LEDs lit up as well. However, I assure you that NOTHING is more bothersome than having someone shine their lights the entire night. Most of us go out of the city for quiet and darkness.
