The season for this Campground is relatively short due to its high elevation. You can't get in till July and we were amongst the last Campers on oct 20. PG&E Campgrounds do not have showers or flushing toilets. There are two other campsites above this lake, but don't bother. They aren't as nice and the road getting there is rough. There is bear activity ,so make sure to put your stuff away and you'll be fine. We will be back for sure. Take a look at some of my favorite sites

Pros: stunning location & lake, there are a few amazing lakefront campsites. a few sites large enough for my 30' Airstream, but you'd have to a very confident driver & accomplished at backing up into a small space. We had to drive in against regular traffic flow in order to back-in to our site. Cons: can be cold & windy even in summer. Serious warning on the road to Upper Blue Lakes, it's unmade, kinda narrow and has one very steep part that was very challenging for RVs & trucks with trailers. If you went down in a low slung Airstream, it would be near impossible to navigate that section and backing up to turn around would be extremely tough. It's very negligent of PGE to not have this clearly posted. I cycled down here and watched in amazement as large RV's & 5th wheels tackled the hill. Some got stuck and took several attempts. Upper Blue is NOTHING like Lower .... avoid IMO.

Stayed here on a trip to the Lake Tahoe area. A beautiful location, a bit more secluded alternative to heavy traffic campgrounds we stayed in nearer Tahoe. Two small lakes surrounded by trees and craggy mountains, fishing and hiking, nice sites with views of the lake. In the summer when we were there the area was loaded with many species of wildflowers. Definitely be smart about food storage and use the provided bear boxes religiously. We did well until our last night when husband forgot to return our cooler to the trunk after using ice melt to put out our campfire. Soon after we retired to our tent there were two bears rolling our cooler around the fire ring, arguing about who'd get the last of our hummus. The kind of mistake you don't repeat!
