We appreciate the serenity in this place. The excursion to the coniferous woods is phenomenal. The route is winding and might get breezy.

This was our favorite campground on our 11-night tour of western states. Remote location up a windy canyon road that made me think twice in our rented 28-foot Class C, but it was fine and definitely worth the effort. The campground is on a high plateau among the bristlecone pine forest - beautiful views, quiet, and secluded. Good dirt road access around the campground and the sites are large and well separated from neighbors. Our site had a picnic table and there are dump toilets. We were hoping to boondock in free sites as much as possible on this trip, but this place was well worth the $10. My only regret is lack of time to explore the area more - it is really beautiful and unique. 5 stars all around.

The suggested donation is now $10 Exceptionally clean and quiet campground sitting at about 8500 ft elevation. Lots of room with fairly secluded camp spaces. Absolutely no cell phone coverage, make calls before heading to the campground.

There is no cell service here. Forget talking to anyone. You can't hear anything. You can drive about 2 miles up the road to a viewpoint where I got LTE on AT&T, but you can't stay there. No Verizon of any kind. The road up is windy and narrow. I wouldn't have taken my trailer up it; however we saw a small 5th wheel and two class c's and one trailer about 20 feet long. The campground is actually a $5 donation, not free. There's pit toilets and the sites are immaculate. So pay the $5 to support that. Most sites are secluded by trees and very private. We went in late September and it was COLD. we did stay in our rooftop tent but still it got down to 29 at night. Be prepared. There is an incredible hike near the visitor's center with trees older than Jesus, seriously.

I stayed here a few years ago. I liked it a lot. The night sky was amazing. You are up in the mountains and there are some great views after a short walk. They hold night sky viewing events here periodically. It's a rather rustic type campground. There are vault toilets. The roads are dirt but are maintained pretty well. The sites are all dirt sites. You're in a dryer area here so the trees are the mesquite types. You can do some great hikes around the campground. The Bristlecone Ancient Forest site in nearby. Definitely, go for a hike there. You can see live trees that were going strong when Jesus walked the earth. I was inspired by the Bristlecones there that gave me a sense that humans are not the end-all and be-all of this world. These trees have seen a lot in their very very long lives. You can get a lot of solitude here. I am looking forward to another visit soon. If you need great bathrooms, paved sites with hookups and lots of services, then this is not going to be a good place for you. If you are looking for views, solitude, great dark sky viewing and fun and inspiring hikes then this is a wonderful place. It's a little bit of ruffing it but well worth the effort. It's a $5 requested donation site and I feel it was well worth the donation! There are tables and fire pits rings.
