Site 43 should be tent only!!! It is midway on a steep incline, so backing in a camper was crazy as well as treacherous should someone come over the hill. Bathrooms clean, but open group changing area is so old school. Toilets scattered throughout, but showers only at checkin building. Electric sites very close together (except 43!). Tent sites appear most shaded. Used as base for exploring Marietta area-which was AWESOME!!

I have been to the lake before and there wasn’t drinking. If there was you have to hide the beer. Not anymore! Not a place for a family to stay with young children. Not sure when the rules changed but this is going to ruin this lake for camping. When the word gets out it will be nothing but a party place. So sad.

There are 9 rv spots with electric only. 2 spots, number 59 and 60 are walk up only and not reservable. We are traveling in a 25ft travel travel. Spot 59 woukd not be suitable for and big rig. Spot 60 is to small for us. The spaces are close together. Po aved pads. The dump is licated across the street. Water is available and there are waste water receptacles located about ever third spot. There are flush toilers located in the middle of the 9 spots. No shade except in evening ir early morning. I recieved a 10% military discount. There is a laundry facilty, showers and camp store. The rest of the campground was quite empty. Well shaded. Good cell service. Up to 5 bars with booster.

We stayed at site 38, which was directly across from registration/store and the shower house. We reserved online so didn’t see the space beforehand, and chose mostly because it was close to the bathrooms but didn’t appear to have the possibility that someone would walk through our site on the way. The forest is lovely and worth the stay. Pros: Flush toilets and showers were overall pretty clean. Good water pressure and very good temperature. Laundry facilities on site, but we didn’t use them. Bathrooms are well spaced and water is usually close by. The more primitive sites have more space and privacy, but have vault toilets. Camp store has basic items (but oddly no salt/pepper) plus a fun assortment of T-shirt’s and hoodies with the Burr Oak label. Bugs were not too bad but recommend precautions. The road in/out is in good shape but it’s very hilly and winding. The storage facility at the start of the road had good firewood in large bundles for $5/bundle on the honor system. But it did have a camera on it. :) Glouster doesn’t have much in the way of stores but the Sunoco convenience store was the best and they have a deli case. Cons: Only one shower house with 3 showers per gender for the whole camp. The showers have a communal changing area instead of individual. Most sites have at least some slope in the area so if you are tent camping you may have limited options for the tent. Some sites are too small for both a tent and a shelter/screen house. Not a ton of privacy between sites in the main part of the campground. Beach access is a ways away. Certainly walkable but it’s a distance if you have little kids. Fishing access is the same as the beach. It looks on the map that the water is close, but the campground is on a bit of a hill so you can’t directly access the water.

Burr Oak Campground is a very basic campground, with electric. There are only 15 sites with electric and minimal shade at some sites. Water is available from 2 fountains/spigots in campground. There are 40 non electric rv/tent sites and 17 tent only sites. There is a dump station available. There is one flush toilet building near these sites and within walking distance, near the non-electric sites is another flush toilet building with showers. These are fair in cleanliness. Verizon is 2 bars at 4G. Senior discounts are available (over 62). We saw very little attention from the rangers at this campground. This campground is about 25 minutes from Athens and activities there, including a nicely paved bicycle trail. Roads in the area are in decent shape but very hilly and winding.
