We decided at the last minute to stay here. We got a nice end site. Our trailer is only 24’ long and it fit nicely with the TV parked at an angle. The site was level and the bath house and showers were clean and showers spacious. WiFi worked well.

Now called Along the River The campground itself is on the small side. Thankfully the site across the path was unoccupied otherwise it would be a tight squeeze to back into our space. We were frustrated by the camping rates. Base pay was $45, but over 2 people is $10 extra per person per night. We were not expecting to pay extra per person, otherwise we would’ve stayed somewhere else. The bathrooms are beautiful, though. Sturdy toilet stall doors and newly refurbished, very clean showers.

The campground is relatively small but, very well maintained and clean. Our trailer plus tow vehicle is 54 feet long, so we usually go for big-rig sites. Site 18 was easy to get to and to back into. Sites 18, 20, and 22 are in a large grassy field. Getting out was a bit of a challenge. The loop road has a sharp turn near sites T12 and 15 that is narrow with trees adjacent to the gravel road. A big rig would have great difficulty making this turn. The owners should consider opening up that turn to that the loop can be used by all rigs. We had to pull down the road, then back up into site R9 to get back onto the road out of the park. The park is adjacent to a busy 2-lane highway; there is traffic noise most of the time. My overall rating of 3 stars doesn't align with my other ratings for the park. I gave the park 3 stars because the owner annoyed me. One of our dogs became ill (wouldn't eat, loose stools, vomiting) and we had some challenges finding a vet (we're in the sticks). We finally found a vet that would see us in a town 35 minutes away. We informed the camp host at the desk that we needed to stay a bit longer so we could get to and from the vet; she said it would be OK. After getting our dog treated and returning to the park, we were pulling out when we were stopped by the camp host and told the owner said to charge us a half-day fee for being late departing the park. The park was nearly empty; there was no competition for our site, and we had the camp host's permission to delay our departure. We paid the fee and left annoyed. We had planned to return to the area next summer for a couple of weeks and stay at Tarry Ho but, not now. We are full-time RVers and we vote with our money. We will return to the area next summer for 2-3 weeks but, we will find another park. Park owners need to understand that the decision to stay at a park is based on 2 things: The quality of the park facilities and the relationship with the staff/owner. Tarry Ho passed the facility test but, failed the relationship test. As a result, they will lose 2-3 weeks of revenue and profit from us next summer. One other criticism: The daily rate for the park is a bit steep given the small size of the park and the limited number of big-rig sites. My personal value for the site was around $45/night.

The owner was VERY nice to us. Gave us tips of where to go in the area. We have a 40-foot Motorhome that needed 50 amp hookups, and we got site 21. It backed up to the children's playground and was more in the open for the larger RVs, but the sites for tent camping each had trees around their borders for privacy. In general, the campground is clean and quiet. No problems with power or water. The Wifi was good enough, but it had this annoying thing where you have to sign in once a day with the campground password. So imagine having to do that on all the devices. The best part about this campground is you are literally ON a river, and we would go and dip our feet in the river everyday. We were there at the end of August 2016, and the river was super shallow - maybe 3" deep. It was pretty. If you have children, there is a pool and playground. The campground was a bit pricy - we stayed for a week with a rate of $50 per day after Good Sam discount. They don't accept Passport America discount until after Labor Day, and we were there the week before Labor Day. So, overall, 4 stars.
