Campground used to be a KOA. Sun bought it almost 2 years ago and immediately made improvements. Our site was on the sunrise side. The site is currently more accommodating for a pull in RV, as the cement pad and fire ring are on the right side if you are pulling in. The site is newly paved (millings) which created a large step from our fifth wheel step to the ground. This made it extremely difficult to get in and out of our RV. Other than that, the site was very nice/clean with great views/access to the water. We did not utilize the pool but looked nice. There is a nice onsite marina which you can rent boats from. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had no issues while camping there. Great wifi and the sunsets were fantastic.

Stayed the last week of Sept. 2021. The campground is so cool! You come over 2 causeways to get to the island and the only thing on the island is the campground. We had a sunset waterview site and it was amazing. Nice size site with incredible views. They have really cool firepits as well. Sunrise is as spectacular as sunset, so get up early and check it out even if your on the sunset side. Several issues that dropped my rating lower than it probably would have been if it was summer. The weather was not nice. Lots of rain and quite cold. The wind was so crazy that one day, even without rain it was hard to sit outside with friends. Then there was the bug infestation that without a tent, there's no way you even want to be outside. Our RV and cars were covered with these weird bugs that luckily didn't bite. The other downside is most of the RV park was creepily empty and the office wasn't hosting any of the fun things we heard they normally host. This campground seems like it would be a family wonderland in the summer. They also have a bunch of boat slips, so if you're a boater, definitely ask about their slips. There also was nothing to do within a good 30+ min drive. Even finding a decent grocery store was over 30 min away. Again, it looks like there are a lot more restaurants open closer during the summer. We wouldn't camp here again b/c there are too many other cool places to stay, but I can absolutely see why people would return year after year.

We stayed at Association Island on Lake Ontario in Henderson, NY, for a three-night excursion to celebrate my daughter’s end-of-9th-grade and start-of-summer. We’re so glad we did! When I made the reservation, this campground was a KOA, but has since changed owners and dissociated. They’re owned by Sun Outdoors who was willing to honor the reservation, site request, and discounted pricing. (Thank you, Sun Outdoors!) The approach by way of a single lane bridge to the island is beautiful. Once on the island, it’s obvious that this is a great place for retreat. Surrounded by Lake Ontario, it’s a secluded and idyllic setting for a RV campground. Our site (#G07) was on the sunset-side of the island and the last of the row beside a walking trail. It was wooded, roomy, and has full hookups, a fire ring, and picnic table. I could probably have fit another RV in the site and still had space to stretch. The sites all seem to be well maintained, the campground has paved roadways, a marina for small boats, swimming pool, and ice cream shop. We didn’t explore off the island and didn’t use the bath or shower facilities. Each of our interactions with staff was warm and friendly. We especially appreciate this when staying anywhere. We met a bunch of people who’ve visited the park for several consecutive years - all of whom told us there have been many upgrades and improvements since the ownership change. Except for the 9-hour drive through three states, we can’t wait to return. We paid a KOA-discounted rate of $88 per night plus a $25 site lock fee. We stayed in our 37’ Class-A motorhome.
