Wallowa-Whitman NF NF 21 aka Spring Creek Campground La Grande, OR 45.2125.6N, 118.1843.3W (Campground) 45.3679N, 118.2972W (signboard) 45.36944, -118.29997 (2nd spot) 14 Day limit V 4g/2-3b, ATT 4g/1-2b (no booster) Dirt & grass Campground: Not for bigger rigs. 4 spots fairly close together, picnic tables, pit toilets. Loop in is tight, and while we are only 34' long, we're 13.8 on truck and had to do some creative maneuvering to get ourselves back out. Cell signal here was almost non existent, and fairly dense tree cover if using solar. There was one spot on the left before getting to the Campground we could have fit into, but again, dense tree cover. Didn't check cell signal here. There is supposed to be more spots past the campground, but we haven't taken the bikes out yet to explore. Signboard: Easily found a spot, even on Labor Day weekend (Friday). This area could handle 4 or 5 rigs. Cell signal better, but still bounced in/out a bit. We stayed here 2nts to get past the holiday weekend. Picked up a lot of micro trash, spent shells, and broken bottles. This is also the area where a lot of a sxs park for Day Use. VERY dusty area. 2nd Spot: WOW what a difference. After we decided to hang out in the area for a bit longer, we knew we had to move off the main road as the dust was making our solar pout. As you come in, just before the signboard there is a road going up a hill to the right. It looks intimidating, but can be done going slow in 4wd. We found 3 great spots up there without going back very far. There are spots further back, as we saw people pulling trailers out, but we haven't explored them yet. We chose the 1st spot on the left for the full solar and gorgeous view of the meadow, tree line, and mountains in the distance. Cell signal comes in stronger on this ridge, but still a little fickle without a booster... note to self, get booster. Picked up medium sized and micro trash here, as well as bullet casings and broken bottles... and a special thanks to whomever left a bag of rotting frozen chicken wings...that was fun, but the view is worth it, and SO MUCH LESS dust. There is a spot across (right side of road) where we've had over nights pull in late, but they left by 9am and both were very quiet setting up. Other than them, and the people from further back pulling out after the weekend, we've been alone up here. There is a GORGEOUS spot further up on the right, but I couldn't get any signal. From all but the campground, you will hear road noise. I84 is just beyond the trees. I pretend it's waves (don't judge), my husband uses ear plugs. We've both had no issues sleeping. If we had only had the 1st 2nts experience I would say we would only be back as a last minute overnight, having discovered this other area, yep we'd be back no problem. As with all boondocking, scouting out is the key.

Wonderful small campground with 4 available sites located close to highway. Got last site on a Saturday at 5pm. Forest service gravel road with potholes. Sites are in pine trees and somewhat small. Perfect for our 22’ Sprinter. Dry camping and clean grounds as well as clean pit toilet. Had 4 bars ATT LTE with cell booster. Would stay here again.

We enjoyed this small campground (4 sites) on a trip west. Toilet was clean although no TP. Picnic tables and fire pits. It doesn’t officially open until June 1 but didn’t seem too uncared for despite that. Sign said they are considering starting to charge $10 a night but as of May 2021 it is still free. Lots of boondocking around so if campground is full you can still find a place to set up camp nearby.

We found this place on this website and we're very happy with it. After you exit the HWY exit#248, follow the camp signs. You'll come to a fork in the road keep right and now you're on a dirt road. At the beginning it's a little ruff and we have a 38ft class c, you'll see a boondock site on your left takem if you like but. We drove 1 mile down the road a found Spring Creek, there are only 4 spots and it's first come first serve. There is a vaulted bathroom we did go inside but the tent campers did. Very peaceful and quiet, I would recommend any over 38 and 12 ft height. Low branches, dirt pads but no problem with leveling. The town of La Grande is 10 minutes down the and there's a dump station and fresh water. Safe travels.

We stayed here on a Friday (May 10, 2019) and were the only ones here, initially. We could turn around within the campsite with our 32' trailer and F-250 but could not fit within any of the 4 designated sites without unhooking. We settled near the entrance by the area trail information sign. Out on the dirt road were posted notices that: 1. The entire area is restricted from motorized vehicle use from December 15 to April 30. 2. The campground is unmaintained during the winter and won't officially open until Memorial Day, 2019. Which is why the bathroom was filthy with no TP and there was human waste in one of the campsites. See pictures.

This spot is great! Stopped for a night while making our way from Portland to Boise. Actual campground is about 1.5 miles down a well kept and accessible dirt road. There are 4 defined sites with fire rings and picnic table. We were lucky enough to snag one of these on a Saturday night. If not, there’s plenty of boondocking along the side of the forest road. Popular with ATVs and hunters, but absolutely quiet and peaceful at night. Had 2 bars on Verizon, was able to stream with booster on but not much without the booster. 6mbps down/2 mbps up. Would absolutely stay here again!

Arrived on Monday Memorial day 2018 and passed several large rigs leaving. Dirt road in good shape. There were trails and pull outs for the ATV crowd. Hay I am writing this review from on site so the Verizon works here. I only use my hot spot, no boosters or extra antenna. Hardly any traffic noise and no other campers in sight. Very peaceful and not that far off 84.
