Someone canceled a 3-day reservation, and we were lucky enough to snag it! We beat the last heat wave with a view of the ocean. It was our first real trip out in the trailer and we’re thankful for a WIDE site. Great people around us who were a pleasure to chat with. It is a public beach, so it filled up a little during the day. However, when the sun was going down, it cleared out. Only downside was a party of people who kept walking though our campsite to get to the picnic area near the basketball courts. Like a ton of people... but the view of the ocean made up for it!

This campsite is nearly on top of the beach, right off the highway, and pretty excluded otherwise except for the train.

Site 26 is sold as a PREMIUM, beach front site. The site was directly behind one of the camp hosts 5th wheel which blocked the entire beach view. The host sewer hookup was right at the edge of our site and the smell was evident. Both camp host sites were littered with massive debris strewn about the back of the sites (our side). The campground restrooms were filthy. For $45 per night, this was the worst value campsite we've ever stayed in. Never again. If you must stay here, try to get a site around 58, 59, 60, 36, 35, 34.

We love Refugio Beach. My Parents started taking me here back in the late 80's and here I am now almost 30 yrs later and sharing this same great state park with my kids. The Park has changed a bit over the years. The state chopped down a lot of the old growth Eucalyptus tress (bummer) and a fair amount of the beach has eroded away over the past 30 yrs. All the spots are level and clean and easy to back into. the bathrooms are cleaned daily and showers are HOT! The camp store has most everything but the hrs of operation can be spotty. there is no place to dump or get fresh water on site, which is a bummer but overall the place still hasn't lost its charm. The only drag is the proximity the park is to the train tracks. I usually sleep like the dead, but those freight trains that come down at night stand on their breaks and the sound is brutal.
