Contrary to the charming impression its name might give, this decrepit, poorly-kept RV park is far from deserving its 5 star rating on Campendium. It's unfortunate that we were fooled by this. Our assigned spot was number 80, situated at the very end of the park, surrounded by large vehicles. Our view consisted of an unattractive land deformation, construction machinery, and the ongoing expansion of the park. Spot 80 was uneven by 3 inches and had an old, warped picnic table. Near the entrance of the park, there were signs of strong winds that had knocked down several large trees, which still lay near the area designated for tent camping. There was only one dumpster, which was overflowing, presumably meant to accommodate the entire camping ground. The shower facilities, located near the office, had a faint smell of mildew. The noise from the nearby highway was quite loud. Everything, including the so-called "cement pond", seemed to be a relic from the Gunsmoke era. It wasn't charming, just tacky. Regrettably, I must strongly disagree with many other reviews. This was the most disappointing full-hookup campsite we've stayed at during our 3 years of travel.

The campground, which is ample and consists of gravel sites, is well-maintained. Apart from the occasional train passing by, it's a suitable spot for an RV stay of a few nights. The washroom facilities are also spotless.

This is a pleasant spot situated to the west of Dodge City. It's just a short distance away from Front Street and the Boot Hill Museum. The mobile network reception from AT&T is strong, with three bars, and the internet connectivity through WiFi is also reliable.

Firstly, I'll address the two minor issues. There are railway tracks directly adjacent to the road and it's a crossing point for the horns, so expect to hear them quite often during the day, but less so at night. The park management has no power over the train schedules, but it's worth mentioning as it could be a concern for some. The second issue is the lack of waste disposal facilities; we found only one bin on site, and half of its lid was jammed into the bin, making it difficult to dispose of our garbage when it was full. However, this is off-peak season, so there might be more bins available during peak times. Now, let's move on to the positives. We have a 35' TT and a 21' truck. The drive-through sites are flat and surfaced with crushed cement. They are quite spacious. We can easily park our truck and trailer end-to-end and still have ample space at both ends. Each site comes with a picnic table and a small concrete slab with a built-in eye hook for grilling or tethering your dog. The property is lush with trees, so it must be lovely during peak season. Currently, there are numerous bird nests with eggs, and even a few hanging nests, though the trees are still bare. There are plenty of rabbits around at night! The 30amp service is reliable, and we've had no issues. The water pressure is excellent and the water is fresh and clean - not something all parks can boast of! The sewer hook-up is functioning as expected. The laundry room is clean, equipped with four top-loading washers that fill up quickly, costing $2 per load. There are four dryers, with one currently out of order. Quarters for the machines can be obtained from the office. The shower rooms are neat and clean, with three stalls and three showers each offering great water pressure. The showers are spacious with two shelves for your toiletries. Each

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in site #96, a FHU PT site for $48/night. The roads and sites were both gravel. Sites were level and had a wide grassy area between them. No fire pits or grills. Picnic tables have seen better days. It was easy to navigate through the park and there was plenty of room on the PT to disconnect and park the truck. There were three different choices of spots to hook up your sewer which was really helpful. Most sites have trees between them for shade later in the year. My site had a newly planted tree so not much help there. There was some road noise and I heard a train once or twice. The wind drowned out the sounds a great deal of the time. There were long periods of high wind alerts and red flag alerts. There was a bathroom and shower up by the office and pool, not really convenient for the rigs parked in the main area. The bathrooms are older, but they have tried to brighten them up with paint. More importantly, they were clean. The laundry was clean with 4 each washers and dryers. $2 for a wash and $.25 for 10 minutes of drying. 4 bars LTE with Verizon, weak wifi, and several OTA channels. The person at the desk was very nice which helped make this a nice spot to stay at while visiting Dodge City. If I was going to stay there again I would ask for a spot closer to the grove of trees to help protect the rig from the wind.

We stayed four days here while doing business in town. Very close to town and down the street from the casino. Limited amenities which we new before coming. Park could use some TLC and updating. The worst part was there was not a dog park so people let their dogs go all over and don’t pickup. Super gross. Staff was pleasant at checkin. Wifi was good for phones but you can’t login with our devices.

Spent 3 nights here mid-week. After having been as far north as Minnesota this tour, heading south into a much drier climate impacts the aesthetics of a facility. Gravel level pad, as most have been lately, & will probably continue to be. We’re in the back, where sites are generously spread out. Absolutely outstanding internet. I have dinged many destination resorts for this amenity’s mediocrity. This perk bumps a rating of an ‘8’ to a ‘9’, which rounds up to excellent.

We arrived after dark on a long travel day. The pull through was super easy! The bathrooms and showers were completely spotless, sparkling clean! Very quiet, (except train at midnight 😝)

Friendly phone service prior to arriving and even more helpful in person. Our camp spot was easy for us to access and leave, hook up’s perfectly placed. Very strict areas for walking pets, not a lot of grassy area, but enough to get the job done. Bathrooms and showers were clean and well maintained, as was the laundry area. After traveling with temps in upper 90’s and low 100’s, the crystal clear water of the pool was a very welcome site, water was so cool and refreshing. Kids were disappointed that the game room was closed, but they stayed in the pool cooling off. The low rating on the star for noise was in no way related to the park itself, but close proximity to truck noises on the highway and the train came by 4 times during the night, whistle blowing. Lucky our air conditioner drowned most of it out. Yes, we would stay here again if in the area!

I’m not sure about all the 5 star ratings… the train is very close to the campground, blowing the horn 3 times at midnight, 1:30am & 5:30am. Woke us up each time. Then bigs on the highway woke us up speeding by in the night too. Not a restful spot to stay. Very windy with warnings from the management about awnings. Just a bit run down with weeds & everything needing a fresh coat of paint. Our table was weather & splintery. Also beware of there cancellation policy. CANCELLATION POLICY One night’s fee will be charged for all cancellations regardless of circumstances – weather, health, mechanical break downs, early departures, etc. Location was good.

We were very pleased with our campsite and the whole campground. The sites are roomy, the bathrooms are super clean and the park is conveniently located near Dodge City. We would have happily stayed here longer and would stay again if we are in the area.

Gunsmoke RV Park excels at customer service. From the moment of arrival to the time of departure, the owner is friendly and engaging with his guests. That for me goes a long way. Beyond the interaction, this park has spotless bathrooms and showers, a great laundry room, a very nice swimming pool, and (at least the pull-through sites in the back) spacious sites. The sites have 2 sewer drains, something I really appreciate because I have separate grey and black water drains. The sites have a picnic table and shade trees. There's plenty of green areas to walk dogs. The park also has a great location, just a short distance from Boot Hill Museum.

Campsite is great. I’d suggest staying in the back area off the road, if this campground was in a bigger city , it would be packed all the time. Dodge City is a fun time for a day, then move on. But the campground was in a great location. Gravel sites are big, and the ones in the back area are all pull through. Stay here, you’ll be glad.

Owned and ran by a husband and wife. Needed a place between OKC and Walsenburg, CO and this was it plus close to Dodge City and just an 1.5hrs to Liberal, KS for 1/2 day. The campground is somewhat dusty since the roads are gravel and dirt plus KS winds don’t help the dirt kicking up. Our site was an end one in the front part of the park and it was noisy with cars coming in and going out. Next time I’d opt for the back part of the park. It also seems more green with grass and trees. I must say the bathrooms and showers are kept very clean. It has a nice little store with a few food items & souvenirs. The owner is super helpful with attractions, good places to see in Dodge City. Unfortunately from at least the front part of the park, the nearby speedway cars can be heard which are across the road from the park. Maybe they aren’t heard as much from the back side of the park. We are happy that Dodge City is close by and there are some mature trees to help give shade. We’d stay soon but ask for the back half of the park. UPDATE: ONGOSH! I just had to add…I was totally scared awake b y a train and it’s blasting horn not once but 3 times. The tracks must be right beside this park. Did not know this when booking. Not good at all.
