There were signs for various parks in this part of New Mexico, all boasting $15 overnight stays. Tired of driving and curious as to the reality of the claims, we stopped over at the second one we found: Blue Spruce RV Park. The claims were true, and in fact, we only had to pay $13.50 thanks to our Good Sam discount (though with taxes it got back up to $15.10). If we would’ve been two people instead of three deep, that number would’ve dropped to $12.15. Now I’ve heard claims of $10 private parks before, but thus far haven’t found one anywhere near anywhere near you’d want to be. The old couple running the place were diligently watching Fox News and had accents of thick Southern hospitality, reminding me so much of my great-grandparents that I figured they must either be distant unknown cousins or perhaps my great-grandparents didn’t die at all, but simply ran away to a life less Pennsylvania. The park itself is small, and it’s basically an RV parking lot, however there are plenty of trees on the perimeter of the place and it’s in a fairly remote location, so it doesn’t seem thick with the stink of having just been thrown into a parking lot. My favorite feature of the whole place, however, was the tiny grass park in the corner, complete with a covered picnic table and a single frolf hole. For those unfamiliar, frolf stands for frisbee golf, aka disc golf, and is basically a game for hippies where you throw a special disc through the woods, eventually attempting to get it into a metal basket. This is the only time I’ve ever seen them eliminate the course and just have a putting range though, and I have to say, I liked it. For an overnight stay, I’d definitely recommend this place. But since the town across the highway was desolate, and the park itself really has nothing to do, I can’t see much of a reason to stay here any longer than that.

Hard to review this place, as we nabbed last elec site at dusk when all else in vicinity appeared full up, so we were grateful to have it and the manager could not have been nicer. Still, the place is a bit of a dump. Our little bitty site was too small for larger rigs and between a tidy van occupied by a friendly man who assists the manager (and chain smokes) and an old RV that looks like it's been there since the Nixon administration. The south end of the campground appeared to be clean if tight gravel sites. The northern end where we were was a mixed bag with funky odds and ends lying around (see photos) --- but the bathrooms were impeccably clean! So all in all, it worked for us, but honestly, a half day's work picking up and cleaning around the place would do a world of good. Pretty steady I-40 background noise but no campground noise, surprisingly fast password enabled wifi, good OATV and. strong Verizon signal.

My site was along the fence, parallel to the fence, just at the exit. There was no sewer hookup (didn’t need it anyhow) but there was no discount off the advertised $22 rate for full hookups. The advertised rate is also already including the Good Sam discount. The place looks pretty run down but can’t complain for the price.

Easy on and off the freeway. As mentioned in other reviews small, clean no frills park. Fairly level sites. You’ll hear a bit of the freeway and certainly the trains as you are sandwiched in on all sides by roads. We were going to stay here 3 nights (visiting family in town) but just not enough room to walk our dog. Super nice hosts.

We were passing through and stopped for one night. This is a very basic rv park next to I-40. The gentleman at the desk was friendly and nice. We didn't look at the shower or bathroom facilities but included with no extra fee. The WiFi worked well, and it has laundry facilities. The site was level and easy to pull into but no view, tightly packed sites. Noisy with I40 close and local traffic busy. A good, clean place for an overnight!

I love these little no frills parks for overnight stops. The gentleman at the desk was charming. Easy access. Lots are small but I don’t have a huge rig. Everything worked. Price great. I really prefer these type of places for in route stops over the fancy ones with lot of fu fu I dont use. 5 stars for what it is.

Our truck was having issues, so we pulled off I-40 and coasted into the campground just as the truck stopped. Richard, the manager, was so helpful, calling companies he knew that work on diesel trucks, gave my truck's battery a jump, and got us going enough to get to a mechanic he recommended--CM Mechanical in Milan behind Love's Truck Stop. Campground is clean and a good price. Another camper there, Mac, also offered advice. Good place and good people! CM Mechanical is good too. They were honest and didn't rip us off, and got us back on the road the same day. Even though having issue with the truck wasn't so good, the people and the campground were great. Recommend!

Nice location for exploring El Morro & El Malpais. As of 6/23/2020 the Joe Skeen BLM campground is closed, as are many of the forest roads. Blue Spruce has wifi, laundry, full hookups, dump station. Just across the interstate from 'downtown' Grants. Trains go by several times a night, but other than that it is quiet. Several long term tenants in Blue Spruce, but was only half full for our stay.

On our way to the Grand Canyon and we're tired so we stayed here for the night. We were winter car camping in our Pathfinder. I called and got an answer right away. The gentleman was super nice and allowed us to stay next to the bathrooms for quick access. The bathrooms are heated so it was very welcoming. They are wheelchair accessible! They were super clean! The only problem is that the hot water was running out towards the end of my shower. The shower was used prior to me and also the men's shower was also being used. So I blame the excessive use. Besides, it's Super cold so hot water doesn't last when mixed with icy water. We had no trouble with the electricity. We just hooked up an extension cord to a house heater. Overall, the place is small but had no major issues. We would totally stay here again. Besides, who can beat the price, right!!!
