Visited this location recently and previously in December. It's a pleasant spot with ample space between camping areas. The serene environment is ideal for strolling and cycling. An excellent fishing location is situated about three-quarters of a mile away. The roads are somewhat sandy, making it unsuitable for low-riding vehicles. Definitely planning to revisit in the future.

Finding the campground is not easy. The GPS tried to lead me down Fire Tower Red, and then to a Correctional Facility. The road to the Campground is a sand washboard road that limits speed to about 20MPH. The best approach is to start at RT 40 and head the five miles south on the sand road. There is a locked gate, you’ll need a reservation to get the code. The sites are the largest I’ve ever been at. Site 1 has enough space to comfortably fit six RV’s. There is a hanks pumped water pump. The site is filled with palms and beautiful live oak covered with Spanish moss. If you want a get away place, with plenty of space, this is the place. There were two other campers at the campground during my visit.

We were scheduled to stay for 2 nights but left a day early due to the high number of ticks that latched onto my dog and a few that I found crawling on me. And we just stayed in the campground area including the road and campsites with leaf litter. Also, the deer flies were plentiful. I suppose if you don’t have a dog, and your bug game is strong, it’s not a bad place to stay. Large sites, just be careful of lower hanging branches. The road to the campground has bad washboard areas. Cell data speeds are poor… about 3 mbps on Verizon and 1 mbps on TMobile.
