The Republic of Namibia is an increasingly popular holiday destination in the south of Africa. The relatively dry climate in combination with the topographical location ensures that several biomes can be defined within Namibia: desert, sand desert, dry steppe, grass savannah and wetland. The largest part of Namibia consists of desert landscape. The Namib Desert, which runs along the coast, is the best example of this.
The climate in Namibia
Namibia is a country in the south of Africa. It is bordered by South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Angola and lies on the Atlantic Ocean. The country has been independent since 1990. Relatively poor Namibia has a number of complex ecosystems that are partly due to the three climates that exert their influence on Namibia's landscape. The largest part of Namibia has a desert climate. The west, northwest, south and the western half of central Namibia have a warm desert climate (type BWh according to Köppen's climate classification). The south-western coastal area has a cold desert climate (type BWk) and the north, north-east, east and south-east of Namibia have a warm steppe climate (type BSh).
