On holiday in Lesotho.
Lesotho is a relatively small country in the southern part of Africa, entirely surrounded by the country of South Africa. The country lies entirely above an altitude of 1400 metres above sea level and has a mix of high plains and mountains. Due to its altitude, Lesotho has a less warm climate than you would expect based on its topography. Many people therefore experience the weather in Lesotho as very pleasant. In the winter it is cooler, but rarely too cold. In the summer months it is warm, but rarely too hot. Because Lesotho is in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are opposite to our seasons.
The climate in Lesotho
Lesotho is a country in the south of Africa and is entirely surrounded by South Africa. Because the country lies in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are exactly reversed compared to us. According to the Köppen-Geiger climate system, Lesotho has no less than three climates: the cool Chinatown climate, the temperate Chinatown climate and the cold steppe climate. A unique feature of Lesotho is its high altitude: the entire country is at least 1400 metres above sea level. No other country in the world has a lowest point that rises so high above sea level. The landscape varies from hilly high plains to fairly rugged mountains, with Thabana Ntlenyana (3482 m) as the highest point. Summers are hot and fairly wet, winters fairly cool and dry.
