The country lies entirely above an altitude of 1400 metres above sea level and has a mix of high plains and mountains. The landscape varies from hilly high plains to fairly rugged mountains, with Thabana Ntlenyana (3482 m) as the highest point. Summers are hot and fairly wet, winters fairly cool and dry.
