The facility had neat restrooms, warm bathing facilities, and a welcoming team. These were the only reasons I gave it a one-star rating; otherwise, it would have been a zero-star review. The campsite's proximity to Leadville was another plus. My spouse participated in the Leadville Heavy Half on June 17th, 2023, and the availability of showers influenced our decision to lodge here. Regrettably, the campsites are closely packed. The fire pits are spaced 18 feet apart and some are communal, serving two campsites. If you are comfortable with your neighbor acknowledging your sneeze, then you might enjoy this place. There were numerous 'out of order' signs and the recreation hall was non-existent. The supposed store was merely a tiny souvenir shop. I suspect this place serves as a summer refuge for snowbirds, acting as a base camp. It probably had its heyday in the 70s.

A lot of pros to the cons I’ve seen on other reviews! Pros -clean facilities -laundry -very kind and helpful staff -pul through sites that have concrete levelers Cons -small sites -dusty and sandy -no Wi-Fi (but who cares look at the view!) Easy access to Turquoise Lake, twin lakes and the city of Leadville! Many different types of camping available including A couple of very nice cabins Tent camping sites are wooded and just beautiful! Plenty of activities, trails. Propane fill up station BEAUTIFUL VIEWS We eloped in twin lakes and sugar loafin was the perfect spot. Close to turquoise lake, twin lake and the town of Leadville!!

Do yourself a favor and don’t do it! This place has seen years of neglect. If I could give it zero stars, I would. The minute we pulled in we knew we had made a mistake. We booked 6 months ago for a one week stay. When we arrived, we were shown to a site where sewer was overflowing, and were told there had been a problem with sewer and they couldn’t get anyone to come out and fix it. Really? No one could call us? This place is in serious need of attention....like a bulldozer. The only good thing I can say is they gave us a refund on our stay. We had to drive another hour to find someplace else.

It’s October so there wasn’t a lot of tent campers which meant the site we were at seemed fairly secluded, however, I wouldn’t want to be here when it’s busy. Camp sites are directly on top of one another. Each tent site is maybe 10 feet from the other with 6 sites squeezed into a very small space. No water at sites. And 35 bucks to tent camp is a bit obnoxious. Not to mention, that is a discounted flat rate due to the time of year. Apparently, sites are closer to 45-46 bucks a night. Pros are GREAT cell phone service and super close to gas station, twin lakes, And you can have a legal fire even with the fire ban. It’s meh...

This campground has been enjoyed for the most part for years. Here is a list of positives and some upgrades are needed for better enjoyment! We hope that this will help future travelers plan better. Positives- Clean bathrooms/laundry Easy access to Turquoise Lake and the city of Leadville! Many different types of camping available including A couple of very nice cabins Tent camping sites are wooded and just beautiful! Plenty of activities, trails. Propane fill up station Nice Dumping station Beautiful place to spend time with the family in a proper site. The improvements needed- Some RV lots are not made for 30 ft. Long campers. Lots 7,8,9 are just too small. My advice to fellow travelers is to go and visit the sites before purchasing. Had we known, we would’ve booked a bigger site earlier. Our hitch was in line with the road. Most of the RV sites have mud puddles. When trying to back up onto leveling blocks, they sink and slide. Had a hard time getting our rig set. We were thankful to have brought a large mat for outside of door, but shoes were drenched/muddy from time to time. The upgrade SUGGESTIONS would be to sand, gravel and railroad tie level pads As best as possible to park the RV on most sites. Bathrooms need to be updated to comply with ADA. No access for anyone with a wheelchair stall. It’s a common courtesy. This campground is very much enjoyed, but hope to see in the future a few changes to make camping a lot easier to set up! Less frustration!

Wonderful place. Take your time getting around or you'll be winded. Make sure you take plenty of warm clothes as well.

Arrived on 7/26 expecting a great camping experience. Our hopes were dashed upon pulling into the CG. The approach is not appealing at all. Overgrown weeds/grass, big mud puddles, unappealing buildings. The worse was yet to come. Upon checking in we were greeted by some very courteous young people who escorted us to our site. The site was so small we wouldn't be able to put out our slide and our door was right next to a large tree. When I asked where the sewer was I was informed this was not a FHU site. When we returned to the office we found out that the reservation we made in May was not going to work. We had planned to be camping with another couple. They had already made their reservation for a FHU site and we were to be near them. So,over the next few months we planned on a great four days together. The staff then put us onto another much bigger site with FHU no where near them. This site was a real mess. Large mud hole, overgrown weeds and right across from the office. The most undesirable site in any CG. All traffic went right by us. To continue, I ended up speaking to the owner about the reservation problem. He was very defensive about it. He left to research it and came back to report. I was told that the CG was full when we made our reservation and that when we made our reservation we really didn't make a "reservation". What? He than told me that the office staff only takes our info and really don't know what's available on any particular date. It's his job to set up reservations on his computer, not theirs. He than showed me a copy of an e-mail he sent to my wife to inform us that there was non FHU site available but a 30A site was and we would be assigned that one. When my wife made the reservation, and she is very experienced at doing this, she had to repeat her email address three times because the lady could not get it right and it's certainly not complicated. When the owner showed me the email he sent to her about the reservation problem it had the wrong email address on it so naturally she never received it. He said that's not their fault. Even though the email was returned as undeliverable they could not be bothered to call her. I showed him the copy of our check-in form with the wrong email and her correct phone number on it. No matter he said. He has people making reservations a year earlier and it's hard to keep track of them. This, in our opinion, shows a severe lack of professionalism on his part. It is also reflected in the poor condition of the CG. A side note. This was a very busy weekend as there was a large Jeep rally in the area so there was much traffic in and out of the CG. There are many great CG's in the area on US Forest property, any of which would have been a much better choice.
