Mel Rieman Rec was a lovely spot to camp on our way across country. We arrived on a Wednesday and there was only one other camper there. We had not reserved a spot ahead of time and we’re able to grab one last minute online. The only thing to consider is that if we had arrived on the weekend without reserving, we would have lucked out finding a spot.

We were here in late September. There was one other occupied campsite but we never saw that person. We were just en route to a site further west and once we set up we became aware of the size of the reservoir. We decided to spend an additional night so we could explore the area in more depth. We were in site two - nice views of the reservoir, but no immediate access without walking down the road to the boat landing. Extraordinarily clean restroom facilities. Nice to have showers available. Dump Station with potable water is a plus. Intermittent t-mobile cell coverage, frequently flipped to AT&T roaming. Cell 'hotspot' provided at registration location did not make any difference in our reception.

Arrived Thursday 7/1. Several open sites on Thursday evening. Clean restrooms, flush toilets, and free showers. Dump Station available. Short walk to the reservoir.

Very nice small campground primarily aimed at fisherman as it is adjacent to the reservoir. All the roads are paved and the sites are gravel with grass, a picnic table and a fire ring. Some have electric. Lots of trees and shrubs but not between all the sites so you can see your neighbors. Our site was pretty level, but some looked less than level. Site number 2 would have a great view of the lake and the sunset. Two pit toilets and two flush toilets with shower stalls. All were extremely clean, as was the dump station. Be aware that there was no way to pay cash when we were there after Labor Day. There was a cell phone hotspot so campers can call or go online at recreation.gov, but the service was not that good even at the hotspot. It is an army corp of engineers facility and they honor the 50 percent national parks pass discount.
