KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Makongo Bush Camp is a KwaZulu Natal game lodge providing a wildlife experience for tourists visiting Zululand.

About Makongo Bush Camp
Makongo Bush Camp offers Magudu accommodation across the great Mkuze River at a secluded biodiversity hotspot, Ven-Africa Private Game Reserve. Here guests can enjoy a number of activities suited to the whole family. The Bush camp sleeps four guests in two comfortable tents on raised wooden platforms, the camp is also equipped with a shared cooking and eating space and an outdoor bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and basin. The tents are furnished with two single beds and have a wooden deck. Additional tents can be set up on request and you can expect to share your camp with the resident Nyala. • Shared Cooking Area • Outdoor Bathroom • Patio with Chairs • Braai Facilities To drive to the lodge, you require a vehicle with relatively high clearance; 4x4 not necessary. The bush camp is self catering but meals are available on request and at an additional cost. Homestyle meals are meticulously prepared by Alice, Makongo Hill’s warm-hearted hospitality manager and cook. As a family established reserve, we welcome guests of all ages and have ensured that our activities can be tailored to suit all members of your family. Specific children’s activities include baking with the lodge cooks, guided nature trails, tracking animals, learning bush survival techniques and flower-pressing (in summer). One game drive per stay is included in the rates. Experience the diverse fauna and flora in our custom-made 4×4 game viewer. You can choose from an early morning adventure ending with tea/coffee and rusks; an afternoon drive with a sundowner at one of our amazing viewpoints; or a night drive, experiencing the nocturnal species and magnificent Zululand skies. Experienced mountain bike riders and runners, with a degree of bush knowledge, are invited to enjoy unguided biking and running trails to explore our network of routes from jeep to single track. Views, fast-paced downhills and a one-on-one experience of nature, makes this an undeniably exhilarating experience. The reserve is home to leopard and hyena so you will be riding wild. Bring your own bike, a pioneering spirit and a good sense of adventure. Ven-Africa Private Game Reserve is home to nyala, impala, bushbuck, red hartebeest, grey and red duiker, the elusive kudu, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, bush pig, baboons and monkeys. Predators include leopard, spotted hyena, brown hyena and a number of smaller cat species, such as genet, caracal and African wild cat. Our trees and bush are teeming with birdlife. Some of our most sought after species include; Narina Trogan, Gorgeous Bush Shrike, Eastern Nicator and the Pink-throated Twinspot. The reserve hosts nesting Southern-Bald Ibis and Cape Vultures. Our guide will naturally inspire you with his knowledge and passion for the bush – from animals tracks, to trees, birds, history and mammals – our guided walks and drives allow you to immerse yourself in the wild.
