While I only spent a night here, I really enjoyed this campground. It’s a lovely, quiet setting. There wasn’t too much in the way of shade, so it got quite hot by about 10 am. That said, everything else was wonderful! Yes, it’s 3 miles down a paved (washboard) dirt road. Slow down and enjoy it! Also, the campground host (Steve?) was very friendly and particularly helpful in answering my million questions. He even offered advice on future destinations for my journey (which I needed!) I would definitely return and hit up Cottonwood Hot Springs again while I’m at it!

We had a great site with a view of the lake. The road in about 3 miles was washboard and dusty. We rode our mountain bikes out the road in the opposite direction 5 miles. The road gets rougher and is uphill but a good workout. There are many 4 wheelers and jeeps on the road. There is also a trailhead out that way Green Timber gulch which climbs and meets another trail. Past the campground are numerous free Boondocking site many taken even during the week. We arrived on a Wednesday and the campground filled quickly. It was full Friday and Saturday nites. Water centrally located and out houses that were clean. We hit the peak of the aspens changing colors and it was spectacular.

Not much shade, a little expensive, but well maintained. Close to the lake, dirt road into the area was washboarded.
