During our six-night stay in HMB, where we were visiting relatives, we lodged at one of the two overcrowded local parks. We didn't stay at Half Moon Bay park, but it was evident that it was just as congested. The parking arrangement was peculiar, with neighbors parking their tow vehicles in each other's outdoor picnic spots. Our outdoor area was a cramped 6' x 10' space with a picnic table, adjacent to another guest's truck and beneath their RV windows. While most guests were courteous, we had to endure a rowdy, slightly inebriated group partying until 1am for two nights. A large family gathering also obstructed one of the main roads for a considerable amount of time. Despite their luxury RVs, guests seemed clueless about maintaining cleanliness in the communal bathrooms. The three showers were frequently filled with sand and hair clumps. The water pressure at our site was subpar and the entire park only had two bathrooms. The Wi-Fi signal didn't extend beyond 75ft from the office. The park's saving grace was its proximity to our family's home (less than 2 miles away) and the staff's exceptional service and friendliness. Otherwise, we would have checked out. In fact, all six of us opted to sleep on the floor at our family's home for a night. The lack of privacy made for a disappointing RV experience. However, the park did offer decent beach access. It's unfortunate

Sites are very tight and not marked. Lots of full timers trashing up the place (it looks like a homeless encampment). And unfortunately the full time RVers are permitted to encroach on your expensive site. Little to no management oversight. Also no functioning Wi-Fi. To the point where the SSID of the listed Wi-Fi doesn’t even show up next to the office. Short walk to the beach and that’s about it.

The camp host Terry was very helpful and delightful! I agree with the other reviews. It does say there is laundry and showers, but there isn’t. So just be prepared that you will need to use your own showers. We originally were staying for a night but extended another night. We had a lovely stay.

We arrived here on a whim for just one night. The camp host was really friendly and we got the last site - as they don't take reservations. The beach is just steps away! The sites are pretty small and just an asphalt lot but configured nicely. There is a great walking/biking path right on the beach that takes you to town with restaurants. The noise from the road didn't bother us too much. We will definitely be coming back!

This is a nice spot. Right on the water, full hookups, hosts are really nice. However, it’s right on the road and it’s loud. I’m not really bothered by noise that much but I honestly haven’t had a solid night sleep since I’ve stayed here because it’s constant. The price is pretty high too —$75 for partial view and $100 for ocean view. Probably cheaper than other spots around. Also it’s a bit on the crowded side.

I was driving through and needed a place for the evening. Pillar Point worked out well. The spaces are tight for anything more than the RV, but there is an adjoining parking lot if needed. Quick walk to the beach or Sam’s Chowder House. No laundry or anything special and it’s all asphalt, but the views make up for that. Be prepared for road noise from the highway also since it’s only feet away. It’s all first come first served and the process is easy. Camp host is kind and friendly

We'd hoped to stay at Half Moon Bay State Park but arrived at the beginning of "Wildflower Weekend" and it was full. Pillar Point was our Plan B, but won us over with its location. We generally select stops with frugality in mind, but in this case it was about positioning for a Saturday transit of San Francisco so that we can continue following the shoreline north. Pillar Point is a California style asphalt parking lot RV park. It's laid out with opposing diagonals which precludes one-way traffic. The spaces are relatively short (space 10 is about 30') so there are lots of spots where vehicles extend into the constricted drive lanes, making backing into a site somewhat challenging. The front row premium sites ($84) face the water. The back row "partial view" sites back up to the trees that separate the park from Highway 1, so road noise is constant. What we really appreciated about this park was that the California Coastal Trail passes by the front of the property. It's about 3/4 of a mile walk to a brewery and several restarants. We bypassed Sam's Chowder House, electing to eat at Barbara's Fishtrap (across from Half Moon Bay Brewing) because we liked the name. Portions were huge and both the calamari and the fish & chips were excellent.

We stayed at Pillar Point the month of October 2014 for the whole of baseball postseason. The RV park is ~ 40 min south of San Francisco and is easily accessible from Highway 1. Spots are first-come, first-served and the website accurately lists what spots are available on the day. We received a warm welcome by the RV park hosts when we arrived and were given a partial view site (the only kind available), and we added our name to the waitlist for an ocean view site. Pillar Point is a fairly small RV park and maneuvering is tight, even for our (relatively) small 27' Airstream International. We spent ~ 7 days in the partial view site before an ocean view site opened up, and spent the next 3 weeks waking up to million dollar views of the ocean. Pillar Point is conveniently located near the restaurants at Moss Beach and is a short walk or bike ride away to downtown Half Moon Bay. The bike path runs right in front of the RV park, next to the beach. Because of its location, Pillar Point is VERY popular during prime vacation months. The traffic along Cabrillo Highway (Highway 1) can also be very heavy on weekends and holidays. Pillar Point has full hookups but no toilet/shower facilities, picnic tables, etc. The sites are on the small side so you are quite close to your neighbors. Because of it's proximity to the marina the foghorn sounds continuously but we stopped noticing it after a day or so. The RVers we met at Pillar Point were very friendly and most make a trip to Pillar Point annually. It is easy to see why.

Very nice sidewalk to beach with stairway access. Beautiful location. 1 bathroom for entire campground. The other was closed for renovation. Steep driveway. Wall-to-wall campers.

Ok, California is expensive when it comes to RV camping. However, this place has a great location and clean showers that are free. They also have laundry and a little store. The coastal trail is short walk away. The campsites are tight but it’s not the kind of place where you want to hang out because the ocean is right there. We enjoyed our stay! The only reason we put 4 stars is because the campsite was so small.

We loved this RV Park, especially after seeing the other options in Half Moon Bay. This one is located away from the main highway so there is no traffic noise, and we could see the Pacific Ocean from our site. Also, lots of trees around the property. We loved that the Coastal Trail starts literally right outside of the park, so it was great to be able to bike and walk so easily on the trail, and down the beach. (Although not to restaurants, etc. unless willing to go at least 5 miles, some of which is off road trails). All the staff we met were very friendly, and helpful. My only complaints are that the sites are a bit tight, it made it hard for people to back in and get out. They don't recycle. Finally, the trash was picked up at 4:30 in the morning, so were awakened to the sound of the truck backing up and then the noise of the trash falling in. Seems like they could request a later pick up. Overall though, a great stay to enjoy Half Moon Bay!
