This appealing park, nestled between Miami, the Keys, and the Everglades, is an ideal vacation spot. The cost is reasonable and the service is commendable. It's impeccably clean, and like much of Florida, it's quite flat. The layout is pleasing, and the restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities are all well-maintained. The only drawback is that internet access is limited to the vicinity of the office or the nearby recreational room. I had to utilize my phone's hotspot feature to share this. The campground is currently undergoing enhancements to half of its area, which I believe will be as good as the rest. In fact, I've upgraded my rating to five stars because I believe it offers excellent value for money. I suspect I was able to secure a spot because the seasonal visitors typically depart in mid-April. Usually, there are three 5G Verizon bars available.

This camping site boasts numerous advantages. The employees are warm and welcoming. The locations are appealing. The site and amenities are spotless, complete with a swimming pool. It also features a lake with a sandy shore and a walking path. In close proximity, you'll find a grocery store as well as a top-notch Cuban butcher shop - their beef cuts are simply superb! The only downside: the restrooms are inaccessible from 10 in the evening until 7 in the morning. If you require access to facilities during late hours, this camping site may not be the best fit for you.

Booked a spot while returning from KeyWest. The park is stunning, with very amicable and knowledgeable employees regarding the campsite and booking process! Considering a month-long stay for our next trip!

This park had lots of full timers and you could tell by the amount of stuff that they had accumulated around their RV's they weren't going anywhere. Otherwise, we did get rest before traveling to our next destination. It was a little too hot for us to ride our bikes but they do have trails, a pool and various other park amenities. I would not go out of my way for this one but if in the area I would stay here and explore further.

We lucked out since most of the pods are always full with... Fultimers. We graduated from the University of Miami 10 years ago and we're excited to visit again for the first time since graduation. This is easily the closest rv camp to the university and to key biscayne which is another must visit if you are in the area. The park offers onsite dry camping for about $30... Think just in an open field (no benches, fire rings etc) which is what we were planning to do when pulling in however, they mentioned they had one open full hookup site! Easy decision for us to pay a few more bucks for full hook ups, well worth it. The campground is adjacent to a nice park with an easy to navigate trail which many walk, run or bike on. They also have a large clubhouse with frequent activities including game nights, ice cream socials, potlucks and more. Other amenities include swimming pool, laundry, wifi and friendly neighbors :)

We arrived late so they escorted us right to our spot to make it easier to set up quickly. Extremely friendly staff. Campground is well kept and very clean. Beautiful bike trails all around the park. Grocery store 5 mins away on a bike. I diffently would come back in a heart beat.

Although in Miami this place feels sort of secluded, it’s quiet and very peaceful. The bathrooms are very clean and there is also a lake that you can fish in. If you haven't seen mango trees by the hundreds this would be an interesting park to see. There's tons and tons and tons of mango trees here. There's a park where you can go to sort of like a water slide is nothing fancy but it's fun for the kids, plenty of trails to walk In the campground has a pool Bathrooms are relatively nice Honestly to be Blunt for being in the Miami area i was sort of expecting it to be sort of dump! Surprisingly it's quite nice! Be sure to check this one out you won't be disappointed.

Nightly rate of $27 is a weekly discounted rate. We stayed here in November 2018 while we visited with family in Miami and Key Biscayne. We were first offered a spot in Pod 3 which we setup at for the first day, but requested to move because of overgrown grasses and dilapidated RV's in this Pod. We saw that some of the other Pods had less trees, more sun and the grounds were better maintained. The sites also seemed much bigger than where we were in Pod 3. I'd recommend taking a drive through before selecting a site to see what works for you. Moving to Pod 2 felt like a whole new campground and we were happy there. We did not get the chance to visit the pool. however it looked enjoyable. The laundry facilities were great and there were multiple laundry buildings throughout the campground. The immediate surrounding area to the park does not provide much to do other than the Zoo. We were able to hear monkeys howling right from our site on some days which was pretty cool. We did not visit the lake either, but there was a nice walking trail that we enjoyed walking with the dog. The avocado trees are cool to see also! We were disappointed walking through the park to see how much garbage was left floating around. Not to say this is definitely a management problem, I just wish people would be more careful not to let extra shopping bags, balloons (who needs them.) and plastic packaging get carried away in the wind. Wi-Fi was down when we first got to the park. We ended up using our data while we were there because as per usual, the campground wi-fi was slow. But cell phone coverage was good. It took about 30-40 minutes to get to downtown Miami, and 40-50 minutes to get onto Key Biscayne. Because this is about the closest you can get to Miami with an RV, we would stay here again for that reason.

We came in for Christmas with family. Our 45 foot toy hauler with back deck fit nicely in spot assigned. Lots of regular winter campers here But cell service was lees than good. WiFi is accessable in the club house. My neighbor let her little dog poop anywhere and didn’t pick it up. That always makes me sad as there are so many dog haters out there these days

We needed to be in Miami for a week and so we wanted a place centrally located to Downtown and the Keys but yet affordable! This place fit the bill. If you stay 7 nights you get a better nightly rate. Loftis Party of Six would stay here again! @loftispartyofsix

We stayed here to visit Biscayne national park. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice the campground is in the middle of large urban area. Spaces has asphalt pads and concrete area for picnic tables. Even though close together there are trees all around. Bathrooms are renovated with beautiful tile. Laundry facilities all spaces throughout. Loved having nearby walking/biking paths through the rest of the park. Appreciated the pool and Rec area. There are even bikes that are available to bike around the campground for use. The only draw back is limited hours for restrooms (close at 6 pm). But we would definitely stay again.

We enjoyed this park a great deal. Having a full hook-up such a short distance from Miami for less than $30/night really makes the place stand out. I like set-up for RV camping--several loops with easy back-in--and had convenient services for each loop. It also has a swimming pool just for the campground, monitored by lifeguards, something I haven't seen for a long time. The pool did close on Mondays and Tuesdays during our stay, but I don't know if that always happens. Many seasonal campers around us, but also had some shorter term travelers. We had to get on a wait list to get a spot, but that happens a lot in Florida in winter. The campground sits adjacent to the rest of the park which has very nice bike/hike trails and many picnic shelters. It has a "beach", though I'd hesitate to call it that. More of a stretch of sand along a small lake. It also has a waterpark, though that looks shut down for Covid or seasonal or something. Also very close to Zoo Miami and a short drive from Biscayne Bay National Park--both wonderful places!

The worst customer service I have ever received/ experienced. I called ahead of time to see if there was any availability, which they said there was plenty for the amount of days I wanted. Once we got there the two girls in the front office very rudely told me I needed a mask. I don’t wear masks because of a medical condition and I told them I didn’t have one but I was quickly willing to wear one if they had it. They said no they didn’t have any. Well they refused me any service. My Husband then goes in and again very rudely was told he needed a mask. When he kept asking them questions about the campsite they bring out a big black guy to try and kick him out. My husband said they couldn’t do that and the guy agreed and said “you’re right no we can’t but we are refusing service.” So my husband stays in there a little while longer asking them questions and they said they were going to call the cops!! Geez, so my husband said ok that’s fine call the cops. They may or may not have called because they were hesitantly telling someone on the phone that someone refuses to leave. We’re very easy going. This behavior was totally uncalled for. They had plexi glass up, they were wearing masks (if that was their actual concern), the state does not have a mask mandate and this is how they treat people coming into their state and their place of business. No thank you!!

They don't care about the age of your RV, but if you have, say, a converted Blue Bird Bus instead of a mass manufactured RV you will not be allowed to camp. Anything not originally manufactured to be an RV is under the 'No Bunkhouses Allowed' rule. I know it is a popular thing to do these days so I figured I'd put out that warning. They have had some seriously questionable 'rigs' try to come through. Other than that, this place is pretty awesome, especially for the price and being full hook-ups. Miami and the Keys can make for very expensive stays. It is well set up with pods off the main drive. Sites are back in only. They have a vast pool that is 5' deep at its deepest. Laundry is $1.50 per wash and $1.50-$1.75 to dry. The sites are paved and most are level and shady. We had a rather large step-down, but you can avoid that by picking out a better site. They are completely full up in January and February and most of March, you can only get on a waiting list. But when we checked in on a Friday in mid-April it was plenty open and we were encouraged to just come and pick out a site and reserve then. We did, and it worked out fine. The people are friendly and the place is well-kept. A word on the WiFi. It is technically available, but it is terrible. You have to be right there in the office to pick it up initially and then you can take it just barely outside. It is wretchedly slow. It is on the county to fix it and they don't have it in the budget, I've been told. They don't advertise WiFi and provide no guarantees. We got a bar and sometimes two of Cricket (AT&T) at our site in Pod 9. Great place to bike and sightsee with the whole family!

Most of the pods/sites have trees around them. There is a fenced trash area in every pod and most have a building with a/showers/laundry a short walk away. There is a small section for tents but majority of park is filled with rv’s. There is a nice pool open only limited hours. Would have been great to have it open later than 5pm, especially when it is hot here. Spots are paved with additional room for another vehicle and the sites had picnic tables. Full hook-ups at most sites. It was nice to have showers and multiple laundry rooms around the park. A lot of squirrels in the park as well as birds. Staff at the front was friendly.

Our Ford F-250 King Ranch 4x4 diesel got stolen in the middle of the day from right in front of our RV at this park. This state park is NOT secure! We just purchased this vehicle and we did not drive it. Whomever stole our truck was an insider that cased the place. It is very scary to know that guests cannot feel secure here. Talking to neighbors today we found that theft of different items as bicycles, etc. is common in this place, we wish we would have known earlier.

Larry and Penny was the best choice on Miami Dade area. Even though is on reconstruction to upgrade the pods plumbing and electric. Old pod where clay and metal plumbing. Good 50 and 30 amps hooks ups as well as water and sewer. Nice shade lots asphalt paved. Pool. Baths and recreational were restricted due to covid-19 but park lake and all the other amenities where available. Nice staff. Nightly security on place as well as police presence trough the day. Mostly full time campers there. They allow up to 180 days yearly, you will have to wait another 180 days to be able to return. Close to the Miami Dade Zoo if you have kids. Closet to Florida turnpike and US1 and reasonable distance to the Florida Keys. Overall I will stay again good for the price. You have some avocados trees on your lots if you go during season nice to have florida avocados. County should work on add on some kind of wifi and update the cellphone repeaters

Big park, sites are relatively well spread out, reasonable number of trees, but not overly shady. Tonnes of construction (will be going on for a while) but park is big so not noisy in many places. Closes at 8 pm. Gates locked. Nearly all amenities closed due to COVID. No WiFi due to construction whilst we where there. Verizon data was slow. Even with a booster.

This relatively inexpensive state park (paid $37/night) is a great place for those who want to visit the Miami area. It’s conveniently located between Miami and the Upper Keys. A big plus for us was that it offers full hookups and spacious and relatively leveled spots. Due to COVID restrictions, they only accept self-contained RVs because bathrooms and showers facilities were close. If you like nature, they have a lake with a renovated beach area, trails for walking/running (all flat) and bike paths. The RV park area is under renovation. Apparently, they are making electric and sewer improvements, removing tree roots, and repaving the roads and spots. Highly recommended!

This would have been a somewhat enjoyable stay with a lake, playground, and walking path - EXCEPT that one of our bikes got stolen from right in front of our fifth wheel while we were inside. Whoever stole our bike threw another clearly stolen bike (cut lock still attached to it) on our site and knocked over our kid’s bike. This area is not the safest and there is currently a lot of construction going on in the campground. ALSO, a groundskeeper yelled at me and my kids and told us we couldn’t play by the lake, then another family was playing by the lake and they didn’t say a word to them.

We stayed at Larry and Penny Thompson park for nearly two weeks in March 2021. We used our hotspot for work and got a good signal through Verizon. The bathrooms, pool, beach, and pavilions were closed due to Covid, but they look very nice to use when they open up. There were a lot of snowbirds, friendly folks. On site laundry and plenty of places to walk and jog. Lots of dogs and most people picked up after them. Laundry facilities were open. This park is very convenient to major roads and the turnpike. Easy off and on in our motorhome. Sites are kind of close together, but not on top of each other. Our site was a pull through, fairly level, FHU. There is construction going on to revamp the park, so it may be difficult to obtain a site as they have sections of the campground closed off. This campground does accept mail and packages. We camped in a 40’ motorhome and had plenty of room for our truck as well.

I called to make a reservation, and was told they do not accept camper-vans. I explained we have a full bathroom, water tanks, and only need electric to power our AC. She said they do not allow campervans at all. I’ve never heard this before, and ended up scheduling our night elsewhere.
