We're stationed at spot 9, which overlooks the lake. Many of the camping spots have a gradient of 6"-12", so make sure to check the details of the spot when booking. Those spots that are by the water are located on hillocks, with the size varying (the hillocks get larger with higher spot numbers). Odd numbered spots are by the water, while even numbered ones are inside the loop. To access spots 1 and 3, you'll need to take a left into the loop (from the bottom of the hill where the welcome sign is), for the rest, keep going straight and then follow the loop in a counterclockwise direction. There's ample space for bank fishing. It's also easy to obtain a fishing permit online. I managed to catch and release a small bass - the lake is well-stocked. There's a hiking trail around the lake and other parts of this section of the state forest. Mobile service is patchy but manageable. Firewood can be purchased from the Marathon gas station located south of Baker town center. For major supplies and food, head to Crestview. We didn't use the washrooms, but noticed the hosts cleaning them daily. The hosts are quite congenial, always greeting us as we pass by. We'll definitely be returning (next time with kayaks). Deducted one star due to noise - a training facility for Navy/Marine helicopter pilots is close by, so expect about six helicopter flyovers during the day. Both the county sheriff and state forest staff occasionally patrol the camping area.

Beautiful sites in this small campground (15 sites), but plenty of area to roam. Sites are older blacktop, but level, have a fire pit and picnic table. Quiet! Slept with the windows open just to listen to the song of the wildlife. The reflection off the lake from the North Campground on the lake, is pretty cool, especially with a fog. Site 8 is elevated, providing a nice lake view. Half the sites here are waterfront. There is a boat launch. You can park on the shore at your campsite. No swimming. Cell phone for Verizon works. The internet of Verizon works fairly well, from about midnight to 6:00 am. Other than that, pretty non existent. Antenna TV has a few channels. Mine struggled to pick up a network station in Alabama.

We stayed here mid-January, 2022. Had reserved our site well ahead of time and picked a nice lakefront site. It was extremely cold in January, so didn't do much outside and didn't put our kayaks in the lake. Site was level enough, long enough and had the standard picnic table & fire ring. No cell service with our T-Mobile so drove down the road to get at one point (needed weather - dog's outside water bowl frozen and we had lots of rain). Crestview is a good town to provision in, food, propane etc. Really pretty at night with the lights from the N campground. And we saw bald eagles in a tree and above us! Am linking a video here as well.

South Karick Lake campground was the perfect lake front retreat. We booked about a month prior to our reservation and there were multiple lake front sites available for camping with friends. The campground is relatively small but well maintained. The grounds have tall trees that provided at least 90% shade. The pads are paved asphalt and level, we didn’t need to use any leveling blocks. Our site had some construction in the grassy area taped off but it didn’t bother us too much. We have AT&T and had pretty good service but our neighbors had Verizon and did not have much service at all. The grounds keeper, Mac, was super friendly and brought us some unused fire wood from campers that left. There are no sewer or cable hookup but there is a dump station on the way out of the campground. Water and electricity was on site and we were able to use our 50 amp step down dog bone for our 30 amp camper. I would recommend bringing hard drives with movies/shows in case of rainy days. Swimming is not allowed but there were some small fishing boats and kayaks out on the lake. You can tie off your boat on your camp site or use the boat ramp. If you have pets, make sure they are up to date on their flea and tick treatment. I found a tick on my dog the first night so I got some topical spray at the dollar store which ensured we had no more issues. I would recommend bringing a good fly trap because we were a little overwhelmed with flys until we put out our RESCUE! Outdoor Disposable Fly Trap out (I got our for $8 from the feed store in town). Be sure to bring what you need because there is only a pic and save and dollar store for groceries and goods about 15 minutes from the campground. There is a bait store about 20 minutes from the campground but next time I will just bring everything from home. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at South Karick Lake and plan to return in the future. You can’t beat lake front campsites for this price!
