I made it to a nature retreat for a couple of days. The campsite was uniquely captivating. Every utility was functioning perfectly, and the washroom was neat and tidy. The scenery was breathtaking—I even caught sight of a dolphin in the canal! The soothing sounds of frogs and rainfall lulled me to sleep. The campsite managers were extremely hospitable and graciously accepted my eleventh-hour booking. I'm eagerly looking forward to my next visit!

A serene, petite camping area is situated a short distance from Charleston. The boat ramp was scarcely utilized due to the chilly and misty weather.

In the middle of January, we lodged at this location for a span of four evenings. The total cost per night was calculated by including any booking fees and elderly discounts. The area allocated to us was sufficiently spacious for our vehicle and 22-foot trailer. The sites didn't offer much seclusion, mainly opening up to a central green field. The site manager was pleasant. It was enjoyable to observe the vessels on the ICW, including a barge pulling lengthy pipes. There was a footpath at the rear of the camping ground. While we spent our time relaxing here, it would serve as an excellent base for exploring Charleston.

Stayed here for a few nights. RV sites with water and electric are 28$. Tent sites are only 20$. We parked our van in the parking space of the tent sites and it was perfect. Very nice camphosts as well! About 40 mins drive to Charleston.

Earl and I camped arrived here on Friday, September 7. The day after was opening day for recreational shrimping. This campground has a very busy boat ramp and many of the campers had launched boats as well. It was quite a sight when boats started arriving at 5:30 in the morning. We checked in with the host on our arrival who was friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. We camped in site 1 which was a paved drive that required a little leveling. But not much. The site had electric and water hook-ups. We didn’t use the restrooms or the dump station. The campground gets crowded during shrimping season and was full the two days we were there. Site 1 has good separation from nearby sites, but it was still easy to walk over and talk with our neighbors. There are some interesting restaurants in nearby McCellanville. Service with ATT is very good and I was able to stream content via their network. Earl and I would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

This is a beautiful spot, Was in the area recently and found out Buck Hall is closed until mid January, 2019 for water main repairs. It’s a good idea to double check official websites before heading into an area.

The campground was lovely! The showers not so much although the water pressure was good. Great hiking trail! The second time we tried to do the trail we heard some scary animal sounds coming from the woods so we nixed it. The first time was great though. Had a little trouble with the 30 amp at #7 so we used a dog one for the 50 amp. No problems at #8.

Camped here the first weekend in August. Since the campground faces the ocean across the Marsh, there's almost always a steady breeze to keep the bugs down and temperatures tolerable. Once it stops, Off is your friend. Only 15 or so camper sites, all paved, with power and water. The website calls them all handicapped, so don't worry about that. There are also a few tent sites over by the water. Sites are spacious and most have some shade. This weekend it's full, but very quiet. The campground is next to the Buck Hall boat landing on the Intracoastal. I think everyone loads up in the morning and goes out, which is why it's so quiet. Only downside: the restrooms are offline. Apparently you can only shower. For everything else, there are two portapottys which should have been cleaned a week ago. Either bring your own or plan on a trip into town for breakfast.

We were visiting Charleston and decided to stay here because we could use our Interagency Senior pass. We read the reviews on campendium and other sites so we knew the facilities not be up and working but we are self contained so it was not an issue. The campground was neat but does need some upgrading. The showers were available but not the toilets they had portable potties. The sites were paved and were well separated from each other. We had 50amp hookup with water, no septic but there was a dump station. The intercoastal waterway was right out front of our site. There is a boat ramp there that is very active. We watched the boats go up and down the waterway and the birds flying and catching fish. We also saw on our last day dolphins swimming in the waterway. We could sit outside when there was a breeze but you need bug spray. The campground is about 45 minutes north of Charleston but there are stores and restaurants along the way. We had good wifi access at this campground. If you want to stay somewhere not very expensive and that is peaceful with nice view I recommend staying here. However they do need to upgrade the dump station and the restroom facilities. But overall we liked it and would return again. There are only about 14 sites at this location. So the weekends are usually full.

Great little campground that was full from time to time but the sites are so big you’d never know it was full. Right in the Intracoastal Waterway. I watched the boats, birds and even dolphins go by. Close to Charleston.

We're newly traveling the US with our RV and it was our first US National Park Campground. We had quite a hard time to figure out the 48hrs in advance reservation vs the First Arrived First Served system with pay in the envelope stuff ð¤ Also we were expecting the rate to be $20/night regular and $10 with the annual pass, as we had read reviews here, on Campendium. The rebate interested us, so we bought the pass, thinking it will be paid back in no time as we meant to visit few of the National Parks along our way. But the price had just been raised to $28 reg and $14 with rebate. But we still didn't mind as we would be hooked up with electricity and water. *** Update 01-20-20: we realized afterwards that we were not supposed to benefit any discount with the Annual Pass, so we were very.**** We really enjoy the fact that it is so quiet and small (only 14 RV sites and 5 tent does), but even more, being so close to the Ocean. We enjoyed sunsets next to the water in the morning and had the chance to see a dolphin swimming in the waterway. Heard it taking breath. The sites are roomy and well maintained. For the bathhouse, actuality didn't need to use it, so cannot comment. We recommend it

CG is about 20 miles north of Charleston on Hwy 17. Don't miss the locals selling hand-made straw baskets. The sites are in the open but in Feb that doesn't matter. Come summer it might be a different story. Sites are in a circle. The shower/toilets are showing their age but were clean. Hosts pleasant.

We stayed here so we would be close to Charleston. Very nice and small campground. We went into Charleston and explored the city. We did the Boone Hall plantation tour. It was a nice stay. The only problem was the weather cold and lots of rain. But you just have to deal with that. We went into Mcclellanville and bought some great shrimp at the seafood market where the shrimp boats were docked. We definitely did not do as much as we had hoped so we will be back again to explore some more. The bath houses were ok but old.

While the restrooms and campground could be a bit cleaner and well maintained this is really a great spot. I came in for one night (without a reservation) and stayed for six. It’s only 30 miles from Charleston and right on the Palmetto Trail and Intracoastal Waterway so there’s plenty to do OR juat a great place to relax.

A Nat. Forest Rec Area located on the Inter Coastal Waterway with every site having a view of the parade of yachts and workboats traveling this N/S inland passage. Hiking and biking trails along the shoreline, Paved sites with elec. and water nearby. $10/night if you have the geezer pass. Fortunately the C/G is located near major N/S highways, is inexpensive and maintained like a country club. unfortunately there are not many sites, the place is popular and it would be best to have reservations (http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/scnfs/recarea/?recid=472910. The C/G is a short drive to Savannah and Georgetown with some beautiful historic plantations to visit along the way.

The main camp was full when we pulled in, so were directed to the overflow camp which was shady, pretty, secluded and with several spots to camp. Some sites had fire rings. The cost was $5 but we paid only $2.50 with our senior pass. We also had access to the main camp dump station and bathroom (which were not awesome).

Buck Hall Recreation Area is conveniently located right off route 17. The $20 includes a $10 senior discount plus a $10 reservation fee! The reservation fee seems awfully high but I assume it is the same whether you reserve one night or several nights. We only stayed one night so it is steep. There are some overhanging trees but fairly easy to dodge. This is an older park so the sites are narrow but plenty long enough for any size rig. They are all back-in and some would be tricky to get a big rig into. The sites are paved and some have trees but they offer little shade. Site 8 could use some trimming. The park itself is full of beautiful trees and it is right on the intracoastal. It was fun to watch all the boats passing by. They also have a boat ramp. Bathrooms were under renovation. The showers worked but not all the toilets. They had port-a-potties set up. There are lots of no see-ums expecially at night. The sites are water and electric with a dump station. Directv satellite worked fine in our site (9). Verizon was 4g 3 bars. For the most part it is very quiet although you can hear some traffic noise from 17 even though it’s a fair distance away. We would stay here again.

We had a great week at Buck Hall! The campground isn't very large so I definitely recommend making a reservation. During shrimp baiting season (60 days starting the Friday nearest September 15) the campground is completely booked. Plan accordingly! There is really nice boat landing and fishing/crabbing pier in the campground. We had a blast kayaking around and had some awesome dolphin encounters. The historic town of McClellanville is super cute and I definitely recommend a seafood dinner at TW Graham's! Their key lime pie is amazing as well! The nearby Sewee Visitor Center has red wolves and is free to visit. They also have RV parking! We enjoyed this, but if you have kids I think it would be a must do! You can call ahead and find out when they will be feeding the wolves. The crabbing is great at the campground and we had a delicious crab boil as a result! The only reason I am not giving this campground 5 stars is that the bathrooms were pretty gross. They were working on them while we were there so maybe there is a brighter future for these run down bath houses. Our hotspots worked great here too!

We enjoyed this spot. We decided to stay here as we were checking out Charleston, SC and it provided everything that we needed. View of the water is nice, nice and quiet, plenty of room between spaces, flush toilets and free showers! They have tent options that you can park and walk a little bit to for 20 bucks a night or the water and electric for 28. We opted for the power and liked this option because we could pay for a site, head into town and beach, and know that we still had a spot to come back to. Bathrooms were clean as well as the showers. Water was warm… not too hot or cold, normally this is great, but I was hoping for a colder shower because it was so hot and humid it would have been a nice way to cool off. Still very nice benefit of the campground though for sure. Camp host was very nice. One thing to note is that recreation.gov said there were walk ups available and when we got there there is a sign that says campground full… there still may be sites available you just need to drive through and look which ones are not reserved for the day. Would stay here again for sure. Feel free to check out our full review on YouTube - Chasing the Open Road ð

Nice place to stay directly on the Intercoastal Waterway if you want to fish, kayak, watch luxury boats slide by, or watch birds. I’m a hiker though so was disappointed over the lack of trails. The campground loop is wide open offering no landscaping or privacy. I have two dogs and needed to change my site for their comfort. The Camp Host informed me that to switch to an empty unreserved site, I’d have to pay for two sites, the site I originally booked as well as the new site. In my 2 1/2 years of full time camping, that was a first.

This National Forest Campground is beautiful, kept more like a manicured lawn than a forest. The sites don’t have much in the way of privacy but are truly huge so it’s not the worst setup by far. We wanted to stream the Steelers game, which is why we stayed here—the nearby free campgrounds like that at Santee Wildlife Rec Area and Elmwood Hunt Camp to a greater degree, were much more woodsy, shaded and private, but had only 1 bar of Verizon and weren’t looking all that promising in that department—but no qualms about the choice for our primary purpose. Sunrise over the wildlife strewn water across the street was fabulous. The park was full of fisherman eager to get up and at ‘em early in the morning, and so was very quiet. Some tent folks did revel into the night but they’re positioned further away, closer to the water, and of course they likely won’t be there when you camp here. :) My only real issue is, why have a campground host if they aren’t there to keep an eye on things? The best spot, in our opinion, was reserved for two nights, but nobody ever showed up. A host should remove the reservation sign after they don’t show up for their first night, let alone their second. The spot we ended up with was “fine” but the reserved and empty spot was ideal, yet sat their as lonely as a fire pit in a rainstorm. Add trash in our own fire ring and one does wonder why even have a campground host?

This is a great campground right on the intercoastal waterway. There are only 14 spots (plus a couple tent only spots) and they are very spacious. With so few campers the entire campground is quiet and calm. There is easy access to the intercoastal waterway for kayaking or boating. The fishing off the campground bank isn't great but we saw lots of people coming back to the boat ramp with coolers of redfish and trout. There are also public oyster beds nearby where you can collect your own. The bathhouse is just ok and a needs a major upgrade. The hot water in the shower was just barely hot enough -- probably to discourage people from talking long showers. :-) The pads are asphalt but the sites are fine gravel which ends up getting tracked into your rig. I had to sweep almost daily. We would definitely go back. The sunrises were amazing. Note -- the closest grocery store is about 15-20 miles away so it's not easy to dash out for something you forgot.

we are here for 3 nights. There are only 14 rev sites. All are very spacious and the asphalt pads were super level and wide. The bathrooms were the only disappointment,They seemed clean but were in need of updating. The hot water was just warm enough for a shower. Several hikes and bike trails that left right from the campground.

Very quiet as it is March, but this lil camping area was beautiful. Spaced out, adequate facilities and full 50 amp/freshwater hookups. My spot faced the waterway and marsh land. Didn’t get to enjoy a sunrise due to weather, but the grounds, benches and area is set up to enjoy the view. Easy access, sites are level and fresh drinking water is also provided in the dump access area Lots of gnats so come prepared

A relaxing and peaceful place to camp. The sites aren't that private but they're spread out enough that it doesn't really matter. My husband and I worked while we were here using both Verizon and AT&T service with no problems and no MIMO antenna needed for streaming, video calls, etc. They're all good sites, but if you can get one facing the water I recommend it for the views. It only has 1 main trail to walk on, but it's still a nice walk!

We stayed in site 11, which did not require us to level the camper at all. As mentioned there is no sewage at any of the sites, but there’s a very nice dump station very close. The campground hosts seem to rove about all day cleaning up the grounds and making sure equipment is in good order. We will be back again to this wonderful out-of-the-way campground close to Charleston.

While the weather is cold here, the bathhouse is unheated with warm water. The bathhouse remained with building vents open with the wind blowing thru. Sites are even. Right on the canal. Trails in the forest outside the cg. Electric and water. Walmart 20 minutes away.

Only 14 RV sites and 5 tent sites. The boat ramp keeps busy, especially on weekends, but we were in Site 1, the closest to the ramp, and the early morning boat launches did not disturb us at all. Right on the Intracoastal Waterway, with a National Wildlife Refuge across the water and a half mile of trees between you and the highway. It was very quiet and peaceful. You can see all the campsites, but they are spaced out so that it doesn't feel crowded. Sites are paved, long, and level. Hookups are convenient. The dump station is oddly placed at the far end, and prevents you from driving to the trash dumpster if it is in use. Downtown Charleston is only 30-40 minutes away down U.S. 17. We will definitely return.
