I felt the need to contribute my thoughts as the majority of feedback seems to come from RV users. The section exclusively for tents is beautifully nestled in the woods, offering more seclusion... it's peaceful and falling asleep to the nearby stream's gentle murmur is delightful. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the trails directly adjacent to our camping spot and scrambling over the river stones during our stroll along the river. It was also convenient having electricity and water available directly at our site.

We slept in our tent for a night here. The weather got pretty cold but we made sure to bundle up. There was extra wood others had left stacked up. There was some trash left here from previous campers unfortunately. Everything was pretty wet from the rain earlier in the day so we weren’t able to get a fire going. We only had one vehicle drive by in the morning, he sped by twice with his music very loud and smelled of marijauna. It was definitely a little creepy for a group of girls because he was staring us down. Other than that we had a great stay!

Heavily wooded area which isn’t great for solar but we had a great stay in our class B for the night. Trees are starting to turn colors in late September and it was just beautiful. Don’t let the review about thieves deter you from staying! We only saw one other car drive by during our stay. I’m sure if you leave your stuff, people might take it. But we didn’t leave the site, no one bothered us and we never felt unsafe. Hopeful for a bear siting if anything, but didn’t see any animals at all. All sites are numbered, we took number 1 and could see number 2 way down the road but didn’t go any further to check out the rest of the sites. Gravel road is very tame, cell signal with Verizon was close to zero

This is a beautiful place- but I cannot give it a FULL 5 stars like I originally was going to. I was staying here on my trip through New Hampshire, and was invested in staying the full 2 weeks. I asked the ranger, and he said to “show that you are still occupying the lot, leave your camp gear up, that way no one will come and take your lot”. I work remotely, so Monday- Friday I come down the mountain and go to a local Walmart for wifi for a few hours, I come back and a man and his family not only took my lot, even though my foldable chair was there, mugs next to the fire pit, and my sleeping bag for camping was there- but they STOLE my foldable chair. They deliberately pulled their car into the opening of the lot so I could not get in, then proceeded, while my items were still there, to pull in a massive “bang bus” titled school bus, and another vehicle. When I confronted them about it, they lied and said the “ranger walked through” and gave them the ok to take my lot. The ranger ok’d taking my lot even though a person’s things were there? Even though it clearly shows a person is still occupying the lot? The ranger ok’d stealing my items as well? Ultimately, I was so disgusted with these people stealing from me, lying, and abusing the trust and basic decency that humans should have to one another, I left entirely. The system needs to be enforced more here, and lots checked up on regularly with who is staying there and for how long. not coming back again and will not recommend to anyone and everyone

One of the most unprofessional and unpleasant experiences I have had at any campground. The owner runs around in a full-blown security guard outfit, armed and with his rottweiler. I'm not sure why exactly, but I'm a bit concerned that a campground needs an armed security guard. The site we got put into was hot, exposed to the sun with no shade, extremely narrow and was down the road away from the main campground and up a gravel road in pretty poor condition. I was reminded of a gravel put when we first pulled up. I suspected the site wasn't going to be nice when I saw it was so far away from the main campground and surrounded by seasonal sites. But I had called and was told it was beautiful and I would really love it, so I took the chance. Once we saw it, I immediately went to the office and asked to be moved. This is when I discovered that the office manager had walked out/quite that morning and was only the most recent in a string of recent resignations. So, these poor teenagers were trying to get the owner who was still in bed at noon. I had to wait a full 90 minutes for him to saunter in, and that's when I got the "security guard" get up. The owner, John, got very aggressive and said I was making his staff uncomfortable. Proceeded to call me names and even took his gun belt off to fight with me. A real piece of work. We were told to leave and that I won't get my money back. "Get out". So, I'm out over $300 now for the weekend. I wish I could give zero stars. Be very careful with this place and this guy. He treats his staff like crap, and he has a serious little man syndrome.

Gale River Loop Road is a free camping area maintained by the White Mountain National Forest. Camping is allowed only in designated sites, which are easy to identify. Each designated site has a number and a rule board. Entrance on Gale River Trail is on a well graded dirt road, passable to any vehicle. Most of the sites are designed for tents and small rigs like campervan and truck campers, but there are a few sites suitable for a large travel trailer. Sites are in a wooded area and are well spaced apart. Camped mid-week and saw little traffic (though there is a popular trailhead nearby, if you camp in one of the sites between the main road and the trailhead you'll likely see more cars). It was quiet and comfortable. 14 day limit and 15 people max per site. Pets must be leashed. Pack it in, pack it out. No bathrooms. No cell service here, closest service is 10 minutes down the road in Bethlehem. This is a great spot for the night or for the week. Highly recommend.

First we tried Haystack Rd. We rolled into camp via US 2 (a beautiful drive BTW) around 4:00 PM to find that all but one site was occupied. The only remaining spot was under a canopy of trees (no solar power), had almost no cell coverage (can't get any work done) and had a large ditch in the driveway so we couldn't maneuver the camper in, no matter how hard we tried. Fortunately, I knew that Gale River Loop Rd was near by but, according to this and other websites, there was NO cell coverage at all. We figured we would grab a spot and only stay for a night or two and then move on to a new location that suited our needs. As we rolled down the road we happened upon this beauty! A wide open space with great 4G LTE coverage. We stayed for 14 nights (the maximum allowed time) and checked out many of the hiking trails within walking distance of our site. The town of Bethlehem is just 10 mins north and has everything you might need. There is also a Walmart in Littleton just 20 mins away. While in the area, we saw two bears, one of which crossed just a mile from our site... so be aware and prepared to store your food items away. I would also recommend hiking with some bear mace handy. Site #3 is ideal for larger rigs (can easily fit 50+ feet) and those using solar power. There are other large sites if sun isn't a necessity for you.

We gave this place a try and aborted our 3 day reservations after less than 24 hours. The roads are tight and poorly marked Lots of trees need to be addressed The sites are unkept Horrible cell reception with Verizon This may be great for tent camping and a small travel trailer Not ideal for 25 and 28 Airstreams

My husband booked and paid for 3 sites in his name. Our kids were staying with their families on the 2 other sites. One of our son's had to leave a day early. About 2 hours later another camper pulled onto the site. We asked to have a refund because we were paid for another day and we wanted to have a campfire on the site that my son left. the campsites were very small for our 23 ft TT,s so we could all sit around and spread out on his site that night. The owner gave us a hard time but in the end put through a credit for one day. We were kind of surprised he gave us a hard time. We spent a lot of money on wood, 30.00 to park an extra car for the week, a 15.00 fee for friends to visit for 3 hours and other purchases in the store all week long. Then there was the bear that roamed the campground. Very exciting but not much sleep as car horns, barking dogs,bear whistles and other campers yelling all through the night at it. The sites are very clean, bathrooms clean, no sewer hookups but the sites are not very wooded and small. Many of them sit right on the road. The pond across a busy road is not a good place to swim. My Grandkids did love the river and hung out there when we were at the campground. I only said no to not going back because we like trying different campgrounds and again the sites are on the small side. Once set up we could not use our fire pit. We went to our son's site.

We stayed here for 9 days (after Labor Day 2018). 10% discount on the 1st 7 day stay. Stay in the mountain top sites, which there are 27 sites, mostly filled with seasonal RVers. During our stay, we were usually the ones here. WiFi was good.

We stayed three nights with our three young children. Overall, the campground is very clean, and everyone working there was super friendly. Our kids loved the playground! The downside... campsites are very small and super close together with no privacy. Literally, not a row of trees to shield you from your neighbors and vice versa. Also, our site was facing the river, which was pretty, but the busy road was right there on the other side, and we could hear the traffic. I said I would stay again, and I would, but not before trying other places.

This is a nice campground and overall we enjoyed our stay. The roads are tight and camp spots are extremely tight. We have a small 22’ airstream and I was very nervous driving through and it was tight to park. Our neighbors each had 27’+ rigs and blocked access to our site for over 45 minutes while trying to park. Our riverfront site was beautiful and the sites themselves are well maintained and clean. Sites are very close together and there is very little privacy. Cell service is non existent so plan ahead! Great jumping point for many activities in this region!

Spent 5 nights at the campground in August. Currently, cabins, Rv’s and tent/car campers are all found in the same areas, with the exception of one loop for tent camping only. Owner indicated he intends to institute a new policy where tent campsites must be completely full before he lets a tent camper on an RV site. I have nothing against the tents, just something to be aware of, especially for those staying in the cabins, that we are all there together and you will be looking at a campground full of drying towels and toys. The roads through the campground are tight, rutted, and steep in spots. Not for the nervous driver, and I would not recommend longer travel trailers or 5th wheels. Many trees and stumps close to the road on turns and near sites. We could not pull out of our pull-through site due to the trees (it *might have been possible if the site across the way had been vacant). We were in a 21’11” TT. The rig in the pull-through next to us also had to back out. In addition, one person arrived who was was unable to maneuver into his back-in site and had to move, and another was only able to get in after we moved our truck (which was completely within our site) and he worked his way slowly back and forth around obstacles. We had to raise one side 4” to be level. It was quiet until the weekend, and once settled we started to enjoy our stay. Then Friday afternoon the place filled up with lots of tent/car campers and was literally swarming with kids on bikes (no parents to be found) and lots of noise. Quiet times were enforced, so once it got later, things definitely quieted down. I had intended to do laundry, but the machines looked to be on their last legs and were filthy INSIDE. This was disappointing in light of the otherwise clean facilities. Store was pretty well stocked but overpriced, which I have found to be typical of camp stores. We were rudely treated when the owner felt we were going too fast in the campground, but he did come to our site soon after to apologize: he is clearly quite concerned about safety and is catering to families, so understandable that he is vigilant about his speed limit (5mph). I would suggest he also implement a “no bike riding after dusk” as many campgrounds do, also for safety. The good: utilities at the sites seemed to be in good order, sites are OK in size. Bath house in our area was old but clean. Did not shower there, so cannot comment on water pressure, etc. Good base for exploring the area. The river and a brook are on site and there seem to be a lot of activities for kids. Be aware the nice playground in their web photos is actually across the street from the campground, so you will have to accompany children to same. Long story short, not our kind of place, but can see the appeal for families. We will likely try somewhere else if/when we return to the area. We are currently settled into a much better fit for us in Maine.

We did not stay here. We had planned to stay but there were very few spots that would accommodate our 38 foot Class A. We also discovered that after the first few spots, there is very little room to turn around. We were able to get turned around after a 12 point turn at the end of the road. We did encounter a very belligerent local that was not happy about us having out RV on this road.

This was a pretty spot in the trees down a easily accessible gravel road. The marked camping areas were well spread out so you have plenty of privacy. Some of the spots were for tents only, but half of them are accessible by most RV's with a little clearance. Really large rigs might only fit in site #3, which is the prime site with good sunshine. All the other sites get very little sun due to tree cover. It is primitive camping with no amenities and if cell service is important, Verizon worked well, AT&T was nothing. It makes a great base to explore the Northern White Mountains. Franconia Notch State Park is 10 minutes away with lots of popular attractions, that are overpriced, and great fall foliage. There is also 2 hiking trails within walking distance from the campsites right on Gale River Loop Road. There is plenty to see and do here without paying the expensive state park fees. It was really busy here this time of year and we were luck to snag site #1 on a Saturday afternoon, it was the only site open and looked to have been recently vacated. We wish we had more time to explore the area and would have definitely stayed longer if we didn't have other commitments.

Best camping trip ever

These sites are beautiful and there is totally reception here, but there aren’t many spots, they don’t allow camping in non-designated spots, and they fill up very quickly, so just have a backup in case it’s full.

We stayed here during the colors changing and it was one of the most beautiful spots we have camped! If you pull in where the GPS directs you, this is the start of the loop. I think there are 12 sites total. As you drive in, not too far from the highway will be a fork. Stay left. The right goes down to a gated road. You will start seeing the sites. Site #3 has access for solar and has great verizon internet. 20+ without a booster. As you continue you will come to where another road tees into the road you are on. Turn right. DO NOT go straight unless you are small. We had to back down this road after meeting a dead end. I think there was only one more site up that road anyways. After you turn right, you will see all the other sites. Some are obviously tent only. Some are for smaller rigs. Over here the internet went to almost nothing, and actually nothing at times. Booster allowed a phone call, but no data. This road continues all the way around and spits you back out onto the highway.

Im not sure which site I was at but its the one where you turn right at the fork in the road and a little further down there is a dead end. There was a little trash at the site but nothing terrible. Overall id stay here again in a heartbeat. Due to the tree cover this spot got extremely dark at night and I couldn't see my hand even when I put it to my face. There is a nice fire ring just be careful of creatures living in it. I had a few frogs jump out when I lit my fire so it would be easy for a snake or something else to get in there. This spot also does have cell signal.

This was a great spot! They were all generously space. We were there on October 13, 2020 and there was plenty of availability. It's probably busier earlier in the year. No electric or water but close to all kinds of great activities including hiking and biking!

12 sites available along the gale river loop road. All sites are numbered. Check the forest Facebook page to make sure the road is open depending on the time of year. Forest rangers drove past a few times but never came to chat. Sites were nicely spread out. Not all sites can be driven into. Sites 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9 you can drive a car right into. The other sites are set back from the road and have large boulders to prevent you from pulling a vehicle into them. We camped in truck tents at site 2. There was a large mud puddle at the site entrance but the rest of the site was nice and we were able to find two level spots for the trucks.

Nice and private. Sites are well spaced all along the loop road. Mostly clean. Lots of trails for hiking. The river is beautiful. Plenty of room to boondock if the sites are all full, including a big turnaround/parking area at one end of the loop and a big pulloff on Rt 3 across from the other entrance at Trudeau Road. Supplies are 15 minutes away in Bethlehem and definitely spend a day in Littleton just up the road.

I want to give 4 or 5 stars but I can't make the site more popular... We arrived in a Friday in August and all sites were taken, scouting for sites I asked one camper when he was leaving and I came back in the morning of the day he left to secure the spot, otherwise I would never got it here, not even 5 minutes of me arriving at least other 4 campers stopped by... Some sites crowded with more than 10 cars in it... The sites are very far apart from each other. The road is great for a dirt road (conditions will vary depending the weather and season) Tent, car, van, or bike campers should be fine in any of the sites. Smaller class B, or class C will fit in most of the sites, anything larger than 25ft combined will have trouble finding available spots, most sites are blocked by large boulders to prevent folks from driving in. Far as I could see only 1 site will fit trailers larger than 30ft comfortably, any size will be good at this single site... 3 other sites may fit rigs over 25ft, rigs over 30ft will require some fine driving skills. I could not verify other reviews mentioning feces in the sites, m site was clean. Verizon works great at this current site and at most sites, the entire region has no or minimal coverage for t-mobile, AT&T, or Sprint
