We reached our destination approximately at 8 in the evening, with the registration team still available. The entry was secured with lock codes. The place offered amazing trekking paths, quite challenging and situated in elevated areas. The scenic beauty was breathtaking. We chose to stay in the upper loop of the area. I was hoping for a stable internet connection via Starlink, but the signal was inconsistent due to the dense foliage. Verizon's service wasn't the best either, but combining Starlink and Verizon with a cell booster, I managed to stream television without any issues. However, for work purposes, I had to rely on Skyroam, which utilized T-Mobile's excellent service in this region. I believe all the sites offered full hookups. The spots were not as isolated as I would have liked but were still quite pleasant, so I have no complaints. It's a bit of a journey to reach the nearest town, where you can find restaurants, grocery stores, and so forth. We plan to stay here for a week, towards the end of January 2023, eagerly anticipating the tranquility and serenity this place offers.

Our stay in December 2022 lasted for a period of five nights. Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side and we could only manage one hike due to the rain. Nonetheless, it was a remarkable experience! The scenery was stunning and the proximity to various hiking trails was a bonus, hence we added it to our "To Revisit" list. Our T-Mobile hotspot provided us with internet access but our Verizon phones were of no use due to lack of service. The camping areas and restrooms were impressively tidy and the employees at the office/general store were extremely accommodating!

Only a one night stay for us as we were passing through towards North Carolina. We were in the lower campground. Signage into there is not very good- we found it and ended up at a closed gate. Turns out you have to check in at the office located at the upper campground. Luckily no on was behind us and we could back out of that sticky situation- be aware if that if you're camping there. We'd like to return. I think the upper campground may be a bit better, the sites are spread out a bit more.

Steep and twisting grades up paved road to campground on top of men. Access roads and sites rough gravel and rock. Trees for shade, sizable camping sites. No Internet or cell phone, just you and nature and your partner. Pretty good trade-off.

loved hiking here. was very peaceful. Liked being able to just walk to the nearby trails. our 23 foot ainstream had no issues getting here. Camp store is predictably expensive

You can tell that AL put a fair amount of money into redoing the park and upgrading the sites, roads and bathhouses. We stayed in the Lower Loop which is smaller with easy access to Lake Cheaha (beach, swimming) and hiking trials which take you to some incredible vistas. Upper Campground is larger with more space btwn sites and access to up Bald Rock . PROS: new bathrooms and showers, level sites, excellent trails with beautiful views nearby and very quiet. We hiked every day and loved the scenery. CONS: whomever designed the sites probably isn't a camper. Roads are one way so all the pull through sites on the left side have your door opening to the road and very little space for a "living area". There are super bright lights interspersed in the campground (we had one right between our site and the next) with no rhyme or reason so it takes away from the evening ambience. The pull through sites are great if you are camping with friends but not as great if you are solo as they share driveways. No cell or WIFI in the campgrounds but you can get it at the visitor center and lodge so be warned if you are working remotely. Even with all the cons we really enjoyed our time here and will certainly come back again.

We were in the upper loop. The sites and park are very well kept. Staff was super friendly and there are hikes all over. If you were a biker, there’s lots of pedaling to be had too.

We stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday 2020. We stayed in the Lower Campground and drove through the Upper Campground. Both campgrounds have some distinct pros and cons. First the Lower. It's much smaller than the Upper...the loop can be walked in about 5 minutes. None of the sites were amazing. There were a few back-ins...I wouldn't stay in any of these. Tight spots and no yards. With the exception of a couple of the more traditional interior pull-thrus at the far end of the loop, pretty much all the pull-thrus are a bit weird. What I mean by this is that 2 or 3 sites share the same piece of gravel. One site bleeds right into the next site, often with no real delineation of boundaries. Very odd. All of the interior loop pull-thrus are backwards sites (door opens to road, not to the site. They all share a middle area with the opposite side of the loop that is about 20 meters away. The exterior sites face away and normally-facing sites (door opens to site). Most exterior sites don't have yards beyond the gravel (steep dropoffs). Our site (site 46) had the best view of the mountain. A few of the sites have a view of the lake below. Bathrooms are clean. Some stairs go down to the lake which is a nice lake for swimming/kayaking. Upper Campground. It seemed to be double or triple the size. Most, if not all, of the exterior pull-thrus seemed to have large yards (opened up to woods and plenty of room to play). I don't recall if this loop had the same issues of shared gravel spaces with adjoining sites. We only did a drive-thru but I would definitely only stay in this campground if I came back. The park itself is beautiful. Most of the longer trails were closed for repair while we were there but we were able to walk/hike to both of the lookouts. These lookouts are phenomenal and highly recommended. Sunset was amazing! We did the very (VERY) strenuous hike from the Lower Campground to Pulpit Rock. It was invigorating but we climbed 900' in less than a mile. Worth it though!

It is a nice campground, and the sites are well spaced apart. However it is a full 30 minute mountain climb in an out of the park so be prepared to stay once you arrive. No cell service for AT&T or Verizon. Playground was closed for Covid but did not look great. We were in the upper campground in a 37’ travel trailer, and could not have made the road into the lower campground with our long rig. We woke every morning to total fog (couldn’t see the truck from the trailer), and that didn’t burn off until 10-11 am so I wouldn’t attempt leaving the mountain early in the morning with your rig! We enjoyed hiking, but we didn’t find many beautiful overlooks, mostly just woodland trails.

The site was not even close to being level. While sitting on the picnic table you felt like falling. The drive to the park is very long, about 20 plus miles from I-20. The registration was ok, I have had much easier.

I gave them 4 stars only but that's because we had NO business being in their park !! We're 64 ft of motorhome / trailer. It was what my hubby calls "exciting" getting there. The roads up are State owned and maintained (St Hwy 281), only hit one low lying branch on the way up, otherwise really nice and clear ride up. Pulled into Upper campground to check in at office and had a "slightly exciting" ride "turning around in there" in order to go to our campground at the Lower one. When we called to make reservations we told her how big our rig was and she said that was fine that she could accommodate us. Not the case. Luckily my hubby is a VERY good driver of our rig and we found a spot - even though we ended up sticking out into the road a wee bit but everyone could pass us to get through and no issues. My hubby wonders WHAT teenager engineered their camping spots... hard to explain but most of them are set up with bends and curves that truly only vans and small campers, and of course pop-ups would be comfortable in. The other thing is I have to mention, is the design / set up of all campsites, there seems to be VERY little room for your campfire and picnic table... a bit awkward. They DO provide coal grills, fire pits and picnic tables. I would have to say that if you're at 40-45 feet long you'd be ok if you're comfortable maneuvering major curves. I would truly stop anything above 35 ft from going in there. I love that they invited us to come in with open arms, but it wasn't wise. We've only been at this for about 3 months and are still learning ! Anyway, I've warned you. It IS absolutely beautiful with views and a lake to swim in and fishing and trails all over the mountain. Bathrooms were nearly new and clean. We did lose power one night it stormed and had to use generator for 10 hours - of which they gave us a 10% discount !! No, we CANNOT stay there again with our current rig, but something smaller we certainly would ! I'm not sure the gal answering taking reservations REALLY should be ! Not sure she understands lengths / driving concept just yet !

Beautiful trails and look out from Alabama’s highest point. There is a restaurant at lodge and wonderful old cabins on the bluff. Campgrounds need some bathroom updating but still ok. If you want quiet, check the NACAR schedule for Talledaga in April and October. The NASCAR fans and track noise may not suit your camping pleasures. October is beautiful time for color

This is a pretty State Park in the forest on top of a mountain. It was busy with "leafers" in early November and pretty full while we were here. Its not your typical State Park. There are hotel areas and a restaurant located in the park. There is also a Lodge where our friends had there wedding, the main reason we were in the area. A good spot for a low key wedding if your into the outdoors thing. Access is a bit rough here. It is a steep, curvy drive up the mountain. We came in at night, in the rain with a heavy fog. It was crazy, we couldn't see 20 feet. Kelly had to get out and walk in front of the RV so we could find the road. Made finding our site and parking really hard. The site we had was hard to get into and very unlevel, but we made it work with the help of some friendly campers. Sites do have full hook ups, but we couldn't reach our sewage in our site. The pull thru sites looked much better. The showers aren't very warm on a cold day either. Cell service can be found if you drive down by the entrance, but its not dependable. There are some hiking trails and a lake located in the park that have some good views, especially with the Fall colors.
