Modern restrooms, hot showers, fire pits, table at all sites, only pull thrus in Morro Bay, deep sea fishing, sight- seeing at Hearst Castle, Montana de Oro State Beach. Museum of Natural History and Bird Sanctuary.
This recreational area is an idyllic spot, just a brief stroll over sand hills to the shoreline. Individuals who are not patrons park nearby for beach trips and many of them use the park's facilities. On a couple of occasions, I was tailed into the restrooms by two individuals who lacked the necessary entry code. Once, I exited the cubicle to discover a mature woman and a young male at the washbasin area, cleaning up. The restrooms are unsanitary, decrepit and overlooked. When night falls, the entire park is engulfed in dense smoke from the fire pits and unregulated noise creating a lively party vibe. The sound of music, motorcycles, and large groups congregating at various spots can be heard. The staff is competent, the cost is affordable, and I'd consider staying there again and endorsing it. However, I plan to remain in my vehicle after sunset and steer clear of the restrooms as much as feasible.

The areas appeared somewhat compact, yet we didn't experience any discomfort due to overcrowding. The position was ideal and central for touring the nearby regions. The place was fairly flat and the washrooms were maintained well. It was a simple stroll to the nearby dock and a few coastal paths.

This was a great campground. We had to pull through site with electricity. Received a lot of rain while we were there and many of the pull through sites flooded but not ours. Directly across the street from the Bayside Café which was special! Wild turkeys walk through the campground and of course beautiful sunsets from the top of the museum or black rock.

The beach and walking/bike path are right out of the gate! Nothing fancy but most awesome location. We came for one day and stayed 3!! The path to the harbour is awesome.

The beauty of this park is its location. The sites aren’t that big and it is a big parking lot but in 2 min you are on the beach, right out the back, and also near a bridge over to downtown with all the seafood restaurants and bars. Driving up we saw the towers of the nearby plant and were worried but once we were in the park we didn’t notice them. You couldn’t get any closer to Morro rock. The sunset on the beach was gorgeous. The staff was friendly and informative.

Sites 1 - 30 have water and electricity but no sewer. There is a dump station but you will have to pay an extra $10 to use it. Sites are a bit close but some have vegetation for a little separation. This could be a nice park if the State would invest some of their $100 billion surplus to make updates to the facilities. The bathrooms are typical California State Park bathrooms (which isn't a good thing). No paper towels, no soap and push button faucets with no hot water. Showers are even worse. The showers were moldy, concrete walls and token operated. Be sure to wear shower shoes or flip-flops as you definitely DO NOT want to step on whatever was on the shower floor. Also, although the showers required tokens, they still had handles that you had to turn multiple turns/loops and then wait approximately 45 seconds to a minute just for the water to get luke-warm. But the worse part of staying here were the crows. Not just five or six of them "cawing" every morning around 6:30am (daylight savings time) but AT LEAST 15 to 20 crows. Needless to say, you won't be sleeping in if you do decide to camp here. The one positive is campground is close to the Embarcadero and Morro Rock. But if you bring bikes just know you'll have to traverse a small hill on a narrow road in order to get to the bay. Due to the bathroom neglect and issues, not to mention the witches caldron of crows, we will not be returning.

Lets start with the Pros. Not dusty. Nice gravel space. Close access to the beach, shops and the great bike path that goes north and south, for miles. The Cons: Jammed together in tiny sites. Seems like they measured for the least possible area that could accommodate a rig and went a few inches smaller. If you’re not around to move your tow vehicle, good luck for the people getting on or out anywhere around your space. The park lacks character. We are on section B, across the street from the main park. Behind us is a batting cages business. Across the street is a construction company with equipment everywhere. It does not feel like camping. But, the most horrible negative is the sewage treatment plant several hundred feet upwind from the park. Most of the time you get constant wafts of stink! At first we thought it was the sewer pipe from the neighbor, which, because of the small spaces, is right in our lounging area, but we then realized, after taking our first cycle ride, that it’s the treatment plant. Half price for this space would be too much. Sorry, but never again will we stay here.

This park has two locations. The second park we were directed to has super small spaces and no room to park a tow vehicle. Our 25 foot airstream barely fit after jack knifing into a space. The host rudely told us to park our truck on the street across from the park. I asked if this has been a problem before and he said of course! The park was built in the 1960’s! No security. The park is also located adjacent to a industrial storage yard. Even though we reserved in advance and paid in full we were charged an additional $7 when we arrived because the prices have gone up. Huh? So you can charge whatever you want when your customer arrives?

We often travel here in hot summer months to enjoy cool coastal breezes and amazing views. Reservations are required for hook up sites and there are not nearly enough full hook up sites! On site dump station, clean showers/restrooms and plenty of place to go for walks. Visit the Museum of Natural History and try the Bayside Cafe near the marina for excellent clam chowder!

On a 3 month trip and wanted a few days to relax doing not much of anything. This place is perfect. Have a pull-thru with electric and water. Lots of mature trees. Cement and stone picnic table, firepit, and a stone grill. Can hear lines tapping sailboat masts and a faint fog horn in the distance. Very soothing! Great downtown area with lots of shops and restaurant. Saw seals from the T Wharf. Watched surfers at Morro Rock. Did a couple hikes behind the campground. Wood is available in the campground for $10 a bundle. Currently, there is some road construction / closure at the Route 1 / S Bay Blvd exit. There are frequent detour signs that will get you back to S. Bay Blvd. The dump station costs $10 for 15 minutes even if staying there.. Credit card only. Was outsourced about 4 months ago per ranger.

We had a pretty good size lot. Good fire pit location and view of the morro rock! Some sites I noticed looked tight. Sites have gravel. Good laundromat. This location is prime! We loved going to beach to play, sunset, and biking all around. We biked for dinner and breakfast the next morning. Lovely town. We wanted to stay another night but the road trip must go on!

This small RV park has a friendly vibe with level, gravel FHU sites right in the middle of all that Morro Bay has to offer. If you have a rear window try to get a perimeter site. It is a couple minutes drive to the waterfront where there is tons of free parking, seafood places, shops and otters. Two state parks nearby with hiking and tide pools. Fine access to Hwy 1 with the elephant seals and Big Sur scenery. Nice laundry onsite. WiFi pretty good. The only real negative was that a construction project is going on at the school next door so lots of noise during the week.

Just ended a three day stay at Morro Bay Dunes RV Park, better identified as RV Parking Lot. We made advance reservations along with our travel mates and were preliminarily assigned sites 118 and 122. Upon our arrival, we were advised that site 122 was occupied and we were assigned site J-10, the worst site available and away from our travel mates, though there were a multitude of other sites available which would accommodate us. Charma the manager explained however that those sites were reserved. Now you may ask, wasn’t your site reserved, well yes, yes it was but we understand that that can be subject to change so then why were we not given one of the available sites. Charma explained that those sites had been reserved. Reserved, just like we had reserved our site. Charma was unable to explain as to why other reservations were recognized and ours wasn’t. After a lengthy incoherent conversation with Charma, I realized I had entered Bizzaro World. When I commented that we were given the worst site possible, as it was directly across from the office and entrance/exit, with maintenance vehicles stacked up everywhere and a stone’s throw away from the Morro Bay Sewage Treatment Plant and the furthest possible site from our travel mates, she had no reply other than a should shrug. However, as a gesture of good will, she offered to make a note on our file that on our next visit, not to assign us J-10. Seriously, when we return, like we would have any intention of returning. The Park itself, it is actually a parking lot, with dirt pads, hookups, and no outdoor ambiance whatsoever, but the cable is outstanding. It is fenced so no view of the ocean and a very significant walk to reach the seashore. 44 inches separated our motorhome from our neighbor’s trailer, so to say the sites are close would be an understatement. If you forget your alarm they provide one between 6:50 and 7:00 a.m. when the heavy equipment next door begins operation at the sewer plant. Bottom line, this facility could care less as to customer service. Charma was very nice but not overly bright or accommodating. In closing, a site which would have nicely accommodated us near our travel mates remained vacant during our entire stay. Apparently this facility has so much business that it really could care less as to customer service. Welcome to Bizarro World!

There are 2 different areas of this park, across the street from each other. Don’t know much about park 1 that is for RV’s over 25ft. We stayed in park 2 for RV’s under 25ft. Very narrow sites , we could park our 23ft travel trailer but couldn’t fit our truck any which way in our site. Had to park on the closest main street. No shade but full hook ups. The ladies bathroom is set up with 2 toilet stalls. But the 2 showers have less privacy than most places we’ve stayed. All the other RV parks in town were booked solid so this was our last chance in Morro Bay.

The only thing rivaling the campground is the climate and proximity to a plethora of local attractions ie, the nearby Natural History Museum, Hearst Castle and wine tasting in Paso Robles, not to mention the downtown area itself. We are in our 60's-70's and rented ebikes from Cal Coast Adventures. We highly recommend this company. The online rental process was simple and the bikes were in good condition. We found our way out to Morro Rock to view a raft of Sea Otters and walked on the beautiful beach there. Getting around town on designated bike paths as well as shared paved roads, was safe and fun. We also made it all the way up to the top of Rock Hill by way of the golf course. Great hiking trails and beautiful views of the area. The campground is a nice mix of tent and rv sites. The clientele were a fun mix of folks from seemingly everywhere. We stayed in site #25, a perfect fit for out 17' Grand Design 17MKE. The sites 32 thru 65 have more shade and privacy. Sites 65 thru 117 are more open (better for solar collection). The electric panel and water service are well maintained, and the dump site was clean and well cared for. however, be mindful with the black water rinse hose as the pressure seems very high! I made the mistake of opening it fully, only to have it break free of the connection to the side of my rig. Thankfully, it was a warm day and the fresh water shower almost welcome. The only minor negative was the mechanized trash collection (every other day?). The big trucks come by early in the morning to collect the bins in each row of the campground. Be prepared if you like to sleep in!

This park has a retro feel. You can tell there are a few long timers. But mostly families visiting for the weekend or week. Short walk to the beach and to Morro rock. If it wasn’t so hard to get reservations we would be coming back more often.

We stayed here several nights in June 2021. Overall it is an older park but fairly well maintained. Staff were really friendly. We had a pull through site and was pretty good size. It is in a bit of an industrial area right across the street from the beach and beautiful Morro Rock. The only drawback for us was that it is right next to the wastewater treatment plant. Because the temp is usually cool we didn't smell anything. It is in great proximity to the harbor area and there are great bike paths so be sure to bring your bikes! We would stay again for sure.

We arrived in early May 2021 and the park is now open to all. This is not a landscaped park, but is very functional and is adjacent to a sandy beach and you can walk to shops and restaurants. The front desk staff are extremely nice and helpful! The park is efficiently run. Each campsite has full hookups with excellent wifi, cable tv, and each site has it’s own trashcan, (very convenient!). When we left, I forgot to unplug my surge protector. I called and they sent someone to that site and brought it back to the office and held it for me. They even offered to ship it to our house. So location, amenities, and service are top notch. Just not a type of park to hang around outside.

What did state workers do since covid, this park is unkept, weeds a foot high, lack of care in restrooms, although they were clean walls and fixtures needed a lot of care. We had just came back from traveling the gulf states and bathrooms and grounds were very clean and landscaped, these were states (Texas and Florida) with no state taxes. We live in California with one of the highest state taxes and let me tell you we’re not getting what we pay for.

We stayed here April 9-11 and finally had our first stay at a CA State Park after a couple years of RV camping. We somehow lucked out finding a hook-up site that must have been a cancellation because I booked only two weeks prior. The campground is easy to navigate and the pull through site was ample size. It looked like the dry sites were a little more spaced out but some are very exposed with little to no shade or privacy at all. Staff takes good care of the campground. Our site was clean and the fire pit was shoveled out. We didn’t use the restrooms/showers. Lots of noise from the neighboring dry section. Mostly from multi-family groups - kids playing, families laughing and shouting, loud music, nothing offensive, but you won’t get a quiet, serene nature experience here. Everyone seemed to quiet down by 9-10pm though. The campground is in a great location - not too close to town with noise and lights, but close enough to only take minutes to drive to shops, restaurants, etc. Also easy to get to neighboring towns like SLO or Pismo. We enjoyed walking the dog across the street to the boardwalk in the nature preserve. We’ll return eventually, but we’ve got other places to check off our list first.

Across the street from the bay, a couple minutes drive to quaint downtown area and beach, and hiking right out of the campground. This state park is just the basics, dry camping except for a handful of electric sites but roomy, well maintained bathrooms and showers. Very safe and family atmosphere, Dog friendly, bike friendly. Great vacation base for Pismo and Cambria also as they are just a quick 30 mins away. No National Park Lifetime senior pass discount..FYI

February 12, 2021- We noticed a significant change in our experience this time and felt we needed to note it for future campers. That is to say, most campers know that Covid has had an impact on the whole Camper/RV dynamic. This time of year, the park is generally sparse during the week. Also, most RV's ( Class A, Class C and bigger 5th wheel trailers) tend to be in the area where hook ups are available. And most campers comply with each park's differing rules and regulations. To insure a peaceful, tranquil stay, Camp Hosts are available to enforce rule infractions. Two of those rules for this park are: 1) Generators must be off from 8:00pm-10:00am. 2) Quiet hour is from 10:00pm-6:00am. We were camped in a non hook up area that traditionally camps tents and smaller trailers. Not so this time, we were between two older Class C RV's and a fifth wheel trailer that was over twenty years old. This was not so bad and in the spirit of being good neighbors, we tolerated the stench and sound of (3) tired old generators. However, neither of the parties that were camped by us were in compliance of both the quiet hour or generator policy. This went on for two nights. We thought that a Camp Host would notify them of the rule infraction, to no avail. The rule infractions were NOT enforced. Incredibly disappointed.....This was our first disappointing experience at this particular park.

*Currently this park is only open to people living full time in their RVs or essential workers. This location was incredible we could see the waves crashing from our bedroom window, and walked into town easily. The campground is well maintained and the staff was very kind. We toured the town extensively and other than the state park which looked great found this location to be a great option especially during Covid, the campers staying were spaced out which was a thoughtful touch. The downside...this park is next to the waste management of Morro Bay. Hence is can be smelly. Yea. That was a bummer but the site was quiet and you could request a site at the other end of the park. It was more motivation for lots of walks along the ocean!
