Very well maintained state park with friendly camp host. Stayed the week before Memorial Day and just 15% full which was nice. $41 for electric only ($25 per site, $12 entrance fee for out of state tags, $4 various fees and tax).

Fantastic state park, one of the best we've been to, and we've been to many.

We enjoyed our stay at Chadron - nice spacious sites, great hiking, beautiful horses, and nice hosts. The pay showers were clean (I think it was like 1.25 for 7 min). The bathrooms were also very clean. No problem with the internet signal. As others have mentioned- you can hear the interstate when at the campground outside of your rig depending on your spot - but not that bad. Electric plus sites only but has dump station with drinkable water fills

Nice campsites but crowded and not all were level. Nice facilities which were very clean. But the Highway noise was ridiculously loud. So loud I thought I camped next to an interstate. Others said the noise was four stars good. I don’t understand. It was loud and constant. Very annoying. I won’t stay here again.

We stayed here early June 2021 in Campsite #36. - #36 offers awesome views of one of the larger buttes of the park. This campsite is also close to the shower house and a fresh water faucet. - The campground in early June 2021 was about half full for the weekend we stayed. The campground has three main drives, and laid out almost like a triangle. The first section was pretty full (campsites 4-29), the "back" section (campsites 32-49) was pretty sparse, and the last section (campsites 50-70) sparse on top of the hill but became full closer to the exit. The "back" section (32-49) appeared to offer the best views, but the other sections appeared to offer more shade. - There is some highway noise, but not enough to be distracting. - Be prepared to pay for extra activities like the swimming pool and paddle boats. Speaking of the swimming pool, there are no chairs or umbrellas, and very little shade. - The hiking trails are awesome. We did the Black Hills Overlook Trail, the Steamboat Trail, and the short educational Forest Fire Management Trail. All three of these have their own parking lot trailheads that can be driven to, but the Black Hills Overlook Trail can also be started at the campground. Difficulty level varies with the hiker, but a 9-year old hiked all these trails with us, and I would rate them as Easy - Moderate. - Ticks, Ticks, Ticks. - Believe it or not, but firewood was actually cheaper at the camp host than in town at Chadron. - Campground road and pads are asphalt. It was extremely hot the weekend we visited, with highs near 100, and some of the asphalt at our pad began to melt. We were not careful and didn't watch where we stepped that first day and tracked black tar all over our campsite and camper. A pair of my wife's tennis shoes were ruined, and I'm still cleaning tar out of my dog's paw a week later. - There is a lot to do in the area and in Chadron. We will definitely be back on another visit to do more trails, explore more of the Nebraska National Forest, and go see the Museum of the Fur Trade in Chadron. - Even with the negatives, we loved our stay here and cannot wait to go back.
