Rangeley Lake State Park

1 State Park Rd
04970, Rangeley
Maine, Estados Unidos

Rangeley State Park is located in one of Maine's most beautiful vacation regions, the western mountains. The park consists of 869 remote acres, on 10-square mile Rangeley Lake. The lake is famous for landlocked salmon and trout fishing, and anglers who voluntarily "catch and release" contribute to quality fishing. In addition to watersports, visitors enjoy hiking, picnicking, camping, wildlife watching, and photography.   Camping The campground is small, with 50 campsites situated among fragrant spruce and fir trees, and some sites have water access. The campground and day-use areas offer picnicking, swimming, and a concrete boat launching ramp with floats. There is a children's play area, hiking trails, and modern restrooms with hot showers.

We arrived at the end of the season of 2021 and had our pick of spots. Drove in and parked, then unhitched and drove back to pay. If you reserve online, you will also have to pay a processing fee of $10. We chose site 11 as it was right on the water and had it's own path to the lake. It shows as a 25' site, but we had no problem backing in with our 30' trailer with room for our truck. If you had driver-side slides, a 30' trailer wouldn't work, but definitely Airstream-friendly. We noticed most sites were conservative on length. Many have a slight to moderate grade, so be aware of that. There are some nice, short hikes in the area, clear waters for on-lake activities, and a 10 minute drive to the village of Rangeley, where great food and beverages are available. The road in is a bit rough, but it's rural Maine, so expected. Would highly recommend and plan to go back.

Rangeley Lake is one of our favorite areas for its beauty, good hiking nearby, kayaking and peacefulness. The state park does a good job of preserving what we love. Arrived here after the reservation season ended, so all sites were FF, with most sites available on a Tuesday. All sites are large and private. About half the sites inside the loop have electric and water. We chose site 17 on the water side with no hookups and loved it. There was a 50 ft path from the back of our site to the shore where we could launch our kayak, and we used it every calm day we weren't hiking. Also a perfect spot to watch the sunsets across the lake. Lots of shade, so our solar couldn't keep up. Showers were clean, hot and free. The whole campground is very well cared for. No mosquitoes in mid September! Very little noise from motor boats this time of year.

50 site campground with three bath houses (with dishwashing stations) and several vault toilets and water spigots spaced well within the campground. 11 sites had water and electric, our site did. There were several sites directly on the lake, #'s 17, 19, 21 and 23 all had a short walk to the water, but no water and electric on those sites. These were the best in my opinion. Most of the sites are spacious and most are in the trees. Many were not level front to back, some sloped up and some sloped down. The bath houses were a bit tired. I made a comment to another camper one morning that if one was afraid of spiders, then then would never go in there. I wanted to take a power washer to the place. The next day the wash house was spotless! The dump station is a bit down the road on the way to the exit and has three sites to dump. No water available at the station to flush as there was a water shortage. There is a play area with volleyball net and picnic tables in the campground. The beach is about 0.5 miles from the campground and is a grassy verge that drops into the water. There are three granite staircases leading to the water and a shallow roped off area for the kids. Picnic tables and barbeque available. They also have tent camping in the woods, a group camping area and a boat launch. The road in from the main road is long but not too narrow. Easy access for a smaller camper but we saw 28 foot campers in some sites. It was quiet even though it was almost full and neighbors all seemed to be folks from Maine and friendly.

Park was clean, well maintained, and pretty. Trash was collected regularly. Our space, 45, was level, medium sized for our travel trailer and Ford Ranger. Wood and ice available. Some spaces on the lake looked better than ours. We were in a no hook up space. Convenient location. We enjoyed our stay. Not many loud kids or dogs during the week pre Labor Day.
