In the past, we've lodged at this place and had delightful experiences. The landscape and walking paths of the park are stunning. However, a recurring thief swiped our bicycles from our camping spot around 2:00 am last night. It seems these thieves visit every two to three weeks to rob bicycles, as informed by the Sheriff and a staff member. We informed the park officials about the theft, and they assured us that the park entrance and surveillance system would be functional tonight. However, the Sheriff stated that the entrance has never been in working condition and that the park is frequently targeted by thieves. Our bikes were secured to a metal table, but the thieves cut the chain with chain cutters. Additionally, the restrooms are extremely unhygienic. This is the third state park we've visited on this journey, and the restrooms at other parks (Catalina, Cattail Cove) were excellent. We've also resided at the Maricopa & Pima County parks, where the restrooms were well-maintained. The shower cubicles at Lost Dutchman are infested with mold, soap residue, doors that don't secure, and the toilet stalls often lack toilet paper. The park officials at Lost Dutchman have been confrontational and uncooperative. Conversely, the maintenance staff and camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. In summary, this is a beautiful park but is managed very poorly. Regrettably, we won't be coming back.

We secured our location via the internet, making registration effortless. The camping area was stunning, offering an impressive sight of the Superstition Mountains. The restroom was spotless, and the paths were clearly labeled. We definitely plan to return!

Where to begin? The check-in process was seamless, thanks to the attentive and extremely friendly staff. Our camping spot was absolutely stunning, offering a prime view of the Superstition Mountains. This is the advantage of making a reservation 1 year and 4 hours in advance, as I did. The hook-ups were excellent, just bear in mind that there's no sewer hook-up, although the dump station is conveniently nearby. Our camping spot was immaculate upon our arrival and the staff promptly clean any vacant spots. This is the standard all campsites should strive for. The only sound was my wife using her Merlin app to attract local birds! We had access to amazing hiking trails right from our doorstep, and the night sky was breathtaking. While the cell service was consistently reliable, there was no WiFi provided by the park.

We reached our destination at 1pm without any hassles for being early. The staff at the park entrance welcomed us warmly. We had to relocate on the third night, but it was just across the road, so it wasn't a big deal. However, the generator hours were a bit bothersome as they started as early as 8am. We would have preferred to relax and take in the scenery during breakfast and dinner, but the noise was quite overpowering. On a positive note, the place was extremely tidy.

Despite its maintained beauty and well-equipped facilities, this camping ground has significantly changed over the past five years. Encroaching housing developments now border the park on multiple sides. Our first morning was disrupted by the noise of leaf blowers, and our camping spot (#27) is situated opposite several homes under construction, resulting in the constant noise of concrete pump trucks. Furthermore, the helipad was in use from early morning on Wednesday and Thursday, not for emergency purposes, but seemingly for bathroom drop-offs. This once serene park has now transformed into a residential extension of Apache Junction. The nearby Mining Town operates throughout the day, adding to the noise pollution with gunfights, train whistles and public announcements. However, the breathtaking sunsets and the park's location at the base of the Superstition Mountains remain as highlights. The camping spots are still pleasant, but there's been a noticeable decrease in services, such as the absence of firewood at camp host locations. Moreover, I've had difficulty obtaining a refund for a cancelled reservation, despite multiple discussions with the rangers. Unfortunately, Lost Dutchman, we won't be returning as customers. It's been an enjoyable journey, but it's time to explore new places.

Our journey to the park was smooth and the routes within the park were clearly signposted. We were allocated a spacious, paved site, complete with an attractive pebble-laden picnic and fire pit area. The park offers various pet-friendly hiking and cycling paths, and there's a host of activities to engage in within the vicinity. We would suggest a brief trip to Tortilla Flats. The amenities were well-maintained, and the restricted generator use hours were a welcome change, reducing noise pollution to just four hours daily. The breathtaking scenery within the park and along the trails was truly a sight to behold! However, our encounter with a disagreeable volunteer somewhat marred our stay, but such individuals are transient, so hopefully, this won't affect future visitors. We would definitely love to spend more time there when we next visit the Phoenix region.

Check in at 3pm on Friday was quick & easy. Could’ve done without the few loud partiers, screaming babies, bratty toddlers, and shouting kids lol. Site 2 layout is really interesting. It’s a good-sized site, with long paved parking, fire pit / grill a good distance from parking, picnic table beyond that, a round sitting or tent area under the canopy of a tree, a small walking path to a saguaro, and good amount of empty space before the road. Amazing view of Superstition Mountains from all the areas. Was great to open my b-van sliding door in the morning to that view! The real downside was the camp host space in that area had a lot of bright white & blue LED rope lights on all night plus super bright motion sensor LED floodlights mounted on pylons. Blindingly bright to the point it was difficult to see walking to restrooms. The rope lights caused a bright glow through my windows all night. Definitely ruined star viewing from camp.

Lost Dutchman is a beautiful campsite however the sites are a little closer than what we prefer. We were in site 98 which was right in front of the Superstitious Mountains with no obstructions. The site was a pull thru but was barely long enough for our Toyota Tundra max cab and 20-foot trailer. A picnic table, fire ring and a couple of camp chairs is about all that fits at this site. If you want your trailer door to be lined up with the table, it will require you to pull the trailer through and park your tow vehicle behind it. Firewood can be purchased for $8 cash from the ranger station and ice for $6. If you want to use the well-maintained bathrooms or showers don’t stay in the 75-104 loop since the bathrooms are almost a half mile away via a trail that I would not recommend without closed toe shoes. We saw Quail and tarantulas on the trail. Although there were multiple signs to beware of rattle snakes we did not run into any. There was also a dog park near the main restrooms and showers. There is a dump station on your way out of the park that was easy to access. Goldfield Ghost Town just down the road, although a tourist trap it is a must see. There are multiple gift stores, a restaurant as well as a hamburger/ice cream stand and bakery, a train ride and Mine tours. Just a little farther down the road is the Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum which is more than just a museum full of old artifacts. There is a great gift shop and 15 acres of mining artifacts, artwork and a movie site Chaple used in a 1968 western called Charro which started Elvis Presley as well as the Apacheland Movie Barn used in multiple westerns. They even have a working 1914 Stamp ore mill which was used to crush boulders that had small pieces of gold within them. When enjoyed our two-night stay at Lost Dutch and spending the day learning about the history of this little community.

Great AZ State Park at Base of Superstition Mountain... very clean and well maintained. Convenient shopping in Apache Junction and Mesa not to far away. As with all desert parks, watch for wildlife. We encountered a rattle snake on pavement while walking our dog. He backed up and so did we. Next morning early, some coyotes walked through our site. Some of the sites are a little weird in layout but workable. Careful with a larger rig when selecting a pull through. Even though the site length may be listed as relatively long, the arcs of the pull throughs are tight and reduce the useable length. Google Satellite View is your friend.

The mountain is quite amazing, very beautiful. The park is very clean and nice with roomy sites. All of the sites we walked past looked fairly level. The hiking was really good with lots of wildlife. The staff and camp hosts were very nice. Nice dog park near our site. Watch out if you have small dogs as they could squeeze under the gates. I wish this park was a bit more remote but that's just us.

Beautiful campground at the base of the Superstition Mountains. Sunsets were amazing every night. You feel far enough away from the city that you can see the stars, but close enough to make a quick trip into Apache Junction for groceries or other necessities. Site 91 is one of many that has great views looking up at the mountains, but those looking away may get a nice view of the valley towards Phoenix. A couple of nights got windy enough that the park rangers issued a fire ban. There was a decent number of OTA channels and cell data was adequate. We did not use any of the restroom or shower facilities. Dump station was easy to get in and out of. We went in early April and had fantastic weather of low 90s during the day and low 60s at night. We drove up to Canyon Lake and rented a boat for half the day and another day had lunch down at The Handlebar Pub and Grill which was excellent.

I loved this campground. Site 55 has AMAZING views. Site 50 which I had to move to after one night, still had great views, but it's on the other side of the road, so you've got a camper across the way in your view. Would 10/10 recommend this campground for your Phoenix area travels. The staff are incredibly friendly and lovely and it just feels quaint and familiar and good energy here. I really loved it. Only 2 bars on Verizon and AT&T, but it was still enough for me to work with video calls.

We were in town to meet a friend for dinner. We chose Lost Dutchman because it was convenient, but WOW what a great park! The campsites are well spread out, level and their views are great. The only negative is that the power and water on the pull through sites is frequently on the wrong side of the site, requiring either long cords and hoses or parking in the site with the door on the wrong side.

The desert scenery at Lost Dutchman State Park is nothing less than breathtaking and the Superstition Mountains provide a stunning backdrop for the campground. The park is both popular for RV camping and day use and has an extensive array of hiking trails. Campground amenities include hot showers, flush toilets, a fresh water fill, dump station, and a gift shop. Verizon cellular service clocked in at 0.25 Mbps download speed and 0.15 Mbps upload speed. We camped on site #42 and had water and electric hookups. Drove up from the Tucson area - I-10 - 202 Loop west - Brown Dr/Lost Dutchman Blvd - Rt 88. Good roads - 88 is a two lane and it is about 5 miles to the campground entrance on the right. Had all our paperwork at hand and checkin was easy. Site 42 was a pull thru and it JUST fit us - 35' fifth wheel and an F-450. The campground is very quiet and peaceful. There is a fenced in dog area across from the rest room - close to site 42. The perimeter trail was fun to mountain bike ride. Did the Siphon Trail with a local Arizonian we met and it was quite challenging for us - but very satisfied we completed it! There are plenty of stores close by in Apache Junction and propane tanks can be filled at Tractor Supply. Palo Verde trees were blooming and we had a family of quail with 6 babies frequenting our site.

What a beautiful state park and campground. Easy access from Route 88 and it is well sign-posted from the road. Checkin was efficient. Peaceful, quiet setting at the base of Superstition Mountain surrounded by Saguaros and other native desert plants, yet within 5 miles of stores and restaurants. The scenery is stunning. Roads are paved and easy to navigate in any size rig. Sites are large and well spaced with a paved parking spot and crushed stone picnic area with table and grille/fire pit. Everything is very well maintained. Our site had water and electric. Not all sites do, so check the on-line reservation site for amenities. We had no problem getting level. There is a dump station easily accessible on the entry/exit road. Lots of trails available. Nice fenced dog park at the end of our loop, a first for us in state parks. We had good T-mobile signal. We will return here for sure. The park is very popular so book early.

I very much enjoyed my stay here. It is close to some fun activities, although a bit tourist focused. I had one of the best campsites. It was a pull through in the first section where all sites have electric hook ups and water. Once pulled into the site, my van opened up facing directly at the Superstition Mountain with nothing but wilderness in my view. The campers to each side of me were out of view due to the adequate spacing and the desert brush growing, I never saw any neighbors unless I walked to the side of my van facing the road. I liked this section of the campground better than the others that I walked through, the only downside was the distance to the restrooms. You really need to have a toilet option within your rig because the bathrooms are quite a distance away. I was surprised that they did not have a pit toilet in this section, but it was not an issue for me since I have a full wet bath. I did walk to the bathrooms a couple of times and they were very clean and had plenty of shower rooms. There are plenty of hiking trails that are fairly well maintained with multiple benches along the trails. I did not see or hear much wildlife here, just quail, mourning doves and rabbits. There is a nice dog run close to the bathroom near the cabin section. The roads are paved, the sites are paved and fairly level. There are lots of camp hosts available if needed. There is a well maintained dump station as well. The campground is close to the Goldfield Ghost Town which has gold panning, zipline, train rides, jeep tours, horseback riding, restaurants and shops (tourist prices). A nice scenic drive up into the mountains takes you to Canyon Lake where they have boat rides, and just a bit farther up you can visit Tortilla Flat for some more over priced dining and gift shops. Along the scenic drive there are multiple picnic and hiking areas along the lake. I visited at the end of March, Mon-Thur when the weather was perfect and the trails were not busy. It rained one day which brought some winds, but by afternoon the rain was gone and a spectacular sky show was a delight with beautiful colors and even a double rainbow over the mountain!

We stayed at a site with no hook ups, and generally it was fine except for the one 95 degree day we had, but we just hung out in the shade. The views are incredible and we saw lots of wildlife (coyote, quail, rabbit, hummingbirds). Great location to explore the Phoenix area while also staying out in nature. You can hear the train whistle from the ghost town across the street but only during the day. There was a line at the water fill up station upon arrival and we ended up putting our Y attachment on the spigot so two people could fill at once. Seems like an easy solution that the park should consider. We would love to stay here again!

This is such a wonderful park- friendly rangers in a nice, small visitor center, many accessible trails for hiking & biking, a large dog run, and oh, the views of saguaros and the Superstition Mountains. We thought that our site had hookups, but we were mistaken. The temperatures were in the mid-70s, so no a/c was needed and the non-hookup sites are larger and farther apart, so we were very happy with our mistake!

Stayed here for a bit over a week. Had to change spots mid-visit just due to availability. Everyone was really helpful and friendly. The water/electric sites were closer together than the dry camping sites. Verizon was fastest for us (about 20down and 2 up). I don’t remember AT&T speeds but I couldn’t reliably steam Netflix with it. Would absolutely stay here agin

We came to this site and neglected to check for electric and water. The ranger was very accommodating snd placed us in the last electric:water site (73) available 3 minutes before the ranger station closed for the night. Of course it cost us more but I was ok with that for my mistake. Awesome views. Would definitely stay here again. It’s a better site than we had originally.

Another great AZ state park. Water & electric hookups, flush toilets and showers. Very clean and well kept. The views of the Superstition Mountains are amazing (site 94 had THE BEST VIEWS). You can hike into the Superstition Wilderness from the campground, a moderate hike with some elevation change, but nothing extreme. The Phoenix metro are is close enough for day trips, as is the Tonto National Forest and lakes.

Park was immaculate. Staff, both paid and volunteers were friendly and helpful. There was a lot of hiking. Views were outstanding. We were also able to take a day trip to Tonto Bridge State Park.

This is our second AZ state park and did not disappoint. Very nice long, level back in sites with ample living areas. Fabulous views of the Superstition Mountains, nice trails and lovely nature walk. Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Recommend the hike up to Flatiron Peak but start early before sun gets too hot. Also worth a trip to Canyon Lake, beautiful drive and lake is great for SUP, kayaking and boating. Tortilla Flat Superstition Saloon has amazing breakfast. Good WIFI connection via Verizon and ATT. Road bikes on mountain bike trail and over to Goldfield Mine.

This park is beautiful. The office staff super nice and helpful. We had wonderful stay on our cross country RV trip. Food store 10 minutes from camp plus gas and lots of stores. Frys grocery store nice and big but their pharmacy,,,, well don’t have an ex sent there you won’t get it filled! What you can’t control are who your neighbors will be. Most great but some loud, noisy have friends over , tonight new RV has none stop loud barking dogs. I love dogs we have 2 ours are trained and don’t bark. People drive cars pretty fast through park so if you have a child be careful. I would definitely come back here but we live 2700 miles away !! Beautiful Superstition Mtn!! Also the sites are made so you have to throw your power and water under the RV in order to set up to create privacy or your “ fun” space faces the road. Not sure how this was planned out! Lots wildlife. Coyotes howling at night, bats, chipmunks, bunnies ...

Where do you start with Lost Dutchman? Camping at the base of Superstition Mountain with views of the entire valley. Hiking dozens of trails in such a peaceful place. The campgrounds being as clean as any place I have ever stayed and the staff just being fantastic. Probably the best $25 I have ever spent on a place to stay. We cannot wait to go back!

We stayed here April 3-April 9 and it was HOT! We were not in an electric site, so it was miserable during the day since we’re not heat people. The big downside is the generator hours are only from 8a-10a & 5p-7p. Everyone with a generator was running them the full two-hours twice a day. Since it was so hot, we would get up at 6a to hike and then try to be back during the generator hours. Our site was well separated from the adjacent sites. Since we were in a trailer we did not use the public restrooms. There are several hiking trails from the campground or a short drive away. There is also a very short mountain bike look around the outskirts of the campground. There are always rattlesnakes in this area. I have been to this campground before and both this time and the last, when out hiking have come across rattlesnakes. We drove out Apache Trail road as far as it was open. It has been closed indefinitely due to a major fire and then downpour a couple of years ago. The drive is beautiful, especially if you make it to the end, which becomes a dirt road passable by a passenger car.

We stayed here for 5 nights in site 35 with our 40’ 5th wheel towing a 20’ trailer. This site is private and huge 100’ but no hook ups, which wasn’t a problem. The problem was, you’re only allowed to use your generator from 8-10am and 5-7pm, so plan accordingly. There’s a ranger that drives around to make sure everyone is following the rules. I can’t say anything about the restrooms snd showers, didn’t need them. I would definitely come back.

This place is just amazing. We just spent three days here with our 2 young kids during the pandemic and it was magical. The sunset views of the mountains are world class and the sites are large and spacious. Was very hard to leave. We will be back for sure. Only negative was low cell reception but I was able to take a couple work calls standing on the truck.

Some state and federal campgrounds are hard to reserve due to their popularity. Lost Dutchman is one of those with its proximity so close to PHX. After 3 years of trying to get a site some 60 to 90 days before hand, I finally got lucky this year and got one. While they do have some sites with power and water, I think I liked our dry camp site better as we were on the outside loop against the Superstitions with no one behind us. Our site was close to a trail which did bring people close to our site, but not a big deal. We still had a lot of privacy, probably more than most sites. The check in process was very good. Marty, one of the volunteers and a retired Navy Captain welcomed us, checked us in, and directed us to our site. Every staff member we met were very friendly. The park has a modest but well stocked gift shop. They sell maps, but please don’t open or unfold them before you buy them, as there are signs posted to such and they are not timid about telling you not to, They have a double station dump facility as you enter and leave the campground with both flush out water and potable water. Each campground site has a nice metal picnic table and fire ring. The park rangers are also sticklers for keeping your wheels on the pavement at your site and for observing generator hours. There are potable water spigots throughout the campground, and they do have recycling!

Has what you need, many spaces maybe all on my loop are close together. Still, nice views of mountains.

This was our second year visiting Lost Dutchman and visiting our daughter who lives in Phoenix. During COVID restrictions, no campground visitors were allowed. During our stay, this restriction was lifted, and so we invited our adult daughter and her boyfriend to join us at the campsite for dinner one evening. Upon their arrival at the entry gate, they were met by a surly woman, who with some kind of attitude told them that there were to be no more than two cars and 10 people at a campsite; there were only two of them in one car. And they were also told that they had to be gone by 8 pm. When my daughter arrived, she was upset and told us that she was sorry she had come. So much for having a nice quiet dinner, campfire, and sunset with the old folks. I wish I knew her name, but maybe if she is tired or doesn’t like her job, she should go home or look for something else to do. We will not be back. By the way, Usery Mountain Regional Park nearby is beautiful with nice friendly staff.

We were in a dry camping spot which is more spacious we felt than the powered spots. Gorgeous views. We biked around the park, outside the park was more dangerous roads not meant for bikes. Went hiking in the morning, different options and levels. Yes, you can hear the train whistle from the little cute ghost town close by. Not a big deal. We went and walked around the town, cute with food and shopping options. We did a horseback ride with OK Corral and that was very pretty, a trail ride. Nice and well kept. Had filtered water to fill water jugs and recycling bins. Note, you can't make reservations for the same day. It's first come first serve. You can make reservations more than two days out. We nabbed the last spot on the day we were there. We stayed one night. Would stay again.

The view of Superstition Mountain is amazing! The park is very well maintained with nice bathrooms/showers. We were at site 135 (dry campsite) and it looked like one of the bigger sites and was close to the bathrooms but not close enough to be bothered by people going there. It was close right across the street from Siphon Draw Trailhead and the site was paved and close to level. It had a picnic table and fire ring/grill. I must mention when we walked the campground other sites were a little crammed together.

We loved the drycamping sites, good size, private with covered picnic table and fire pit. Hiking here is amazing with lots of skill levels to choose from. Clean bathhouse and hot showers.

The view of the mountain at Lost Dutchman is worth the visit. We were on the RV loop, which is packed like a sardine can and a long hike to any public restroom (which we use for showers when we can). Not a lot of privacy, but the view of the mountain was spectacular and the hikes nearby were nice. We were very glad when the nearby amusement "Old West" theme park finally closed and we didn't have to hear the irritating Petticoat Junction-type train whistle every couple of minutes. In all, though more expensive we would opt to stay in Usery or McDowell nearby instead. Love the drive up Apache Trail to Tortilla Flats from LDSP.

We only stayed 2 days but will be back. excellent place for a week. Did not use the baths but peeked in. They were very clean. Camp Host sell firewood a 7 bucks.

We had a great time! Lost Dutchman State Park is less than an hour from our home in the Phoenix area but it felt like we were far, far away. I planed this trip as a test to see if my husband could work remotely. I want to plan longer trips in the future with out using up his vacation time getting back and forth. I figured that if it did not work we would just go home. It worked great. With his Verizon hotspot he was able to work normally. We had between 2-3 bars of service and he was fine. Some said not to stay at sites 74-104 because the sites are tight. We were in site 92 and I loved it. I think it depends on what you are there for. Any of the perimeter sites are nice. They are a bit narrow and vary in length so make sure to look at them when planning. The center pull trough spots are not very private but I would stay in them if I was just stopping for the night or if I was going to be gone hiking or biking most of the day. The only draw back from that loop is the nearest restroom is a bit of a hike. Just something to keep in mind if you are taking it "easy" on your black tank or are in a tent. Sound does carry a bit especially with the wind but we did not have a problem with loud noises and everyone was very respectful while we were there. The sunrise and sunsets were amazing! It is Arizona and we are lucky we happened to be there on a partly cloudy day and got the amazing red, orange, pink and purples. My husband is also an amateur astronomer and he was very sad he did not bring his telescope. Open sky with only a little light pollution for being so close to Phoenix. We starting make planes to go back as soon as we can find a spot!

Don’t camp in the lot 75-104 loop. Very tightly packed compared to the main campground. Also not well level. Great hikes and well maintained

Nice, quiet campground with sites spaced apart. The views and trails were awesome. Our site was very clean - a staff member personally grooms (rakes) the small gravel area next to the asphalt pad prior to each arrival. The pad was somewhat narrow with a 3' sloped (with rocks) drop off on either side. It was a little challenging to walk around our RV and get into the storage and propane compartments but we managed. NOTE: read carefully when making reservations. I thought each site had partial hookups, but only about half do. I mistakenly booked a dry site, so we're basically tent camping. Dry sites are $25 and hookup sites are $35. Generator hours are limited so I'm needing to turn off my refrigerator at night in order to use the furnace (I only have 2 100a lead-acid batteries). This was my own fault. I have multiple sim cards for internet. Sprint was the best with 3 bars and about 50-65 Mbps download on band 41.

We’ve been coming to Lost Dutchman since we stumbled upon it it 2014. It’s one of our favorite places to camp in south-central AZ. The spots vary with the lower numbered spots being larger and more spread out than the more recently added higher number spots but there are few bad spots in the campground. On this trip we couldn’t reserve a single spot for the entire time so we moved around but it was easily done by letting the volunteers know we were moving to another er spot later in the morning - they would coordinate and let us know when the spot was ready so we could move directly. We stayed on spot 58 (small and at the corner of the roads), 98 (in a newer part of the park so the spacing is a little tighter but still nice), 25 (a really great spot for sunsets), and finally 59 which is a no hookups spot but has a ton of room for multiple large tents in addition to the RV pad. The best spots in our opinion are the ones at the southern edge of the park as they have unobstructed views of the sunsets and tons of space. But at no time did we feel encroached upon. Super nice people and one of the best kept state parks we’ve been in. My only complaint is not with the park but with the multitude of weekend hikers wearing no masks and bunching up on the trails and being rude when asked to make room - but that was fortunately rare. AT&T coverage was 1 bar of their So-called 5Ge which got to 2 bars with a WeBoost and 30Mbps download speeds - good enough to watch the SFJazz live stream on Xmas day of the Charlie Brown jazz special.

Gorgeous views and great hiking! The park was very clean and peaceful. We enjoyed a great hike up Superstition Mountain and were having such a nice time here that we extended our stay 2 more nights. Cell service is a bit spotty but the sunsets and sunrises can’t be beat. We would absolutely stay here again.
