My journey to this location was with a 35' 5th wheel and a long bed truck, which I parked at spot #16, an east-west, BI spot costing $18 per night. The roads and spots were made of gravel and compacted sand. The road was starting to show signs of wear and tear due to weather, making it somewhat uneven in certain areas. To position my vehicle in the spot, I had to reverse uphill, which isn't my preferred method. I required a single plank to achieve a level position. The spot was adequately long for my vehicle, truck, and a guest's car. Generally, the spots are smaller and closer to each other compared to most state parks. The waste disposal station is oddly located in the access road for spots #15-19. If someone was discharging their waste, you'd have to either wait, navigate through an unoccupied PT spot adjacent to it, or reverse up the road and around a bend. Most spots offer partial to complete shade. Spot #16 is mainly exposed to sunlight and is very near to spot 15, which isn't my preferred arrangement. The communal bathrooms were clean, though I didn't use the showers. It was a bit of a trek from my spot. There were many over-the-air channels available, but no wifi. I had 2 bars of 5G signal with Verizon. If I were to return, I'd aim to reserve spots 36 or 37.

The park is satisfactory and offers a variety of activities. However, it was disappointing to find no staff available for kayak rentals or boat tours. The amphitheater also seemed to be unmanned. Hiking was the only option during our visit, which could be completed within two hours due to the park's small size. Photos don't accurately represent its true size. The park is situated very close to residential areas and developers, resulting in constant noise from ambulances and street traffic. As a regular RV user and seasoned camper, I believe these factors are crucial, particularly when considering the standards of state parks. The park's location was a major disappointment, particularly after a long drive only to find it amidst heavy traffic.

The park is pretty small and I think your overall experience could be very different depending on the campsite you have. We had a full hookup site that was really large and felt pretty private compared to some of the others. There’re only maybe 5 or 6? fhu sites and the rest are water and electric. The campground definitely was a bit rowdy on the weekend, but was very quiet during the week. There’s a pretty busy highway just outside of the park and we did hear road noise, but it wasn’t overly loud or bothersome. There is a total of about 2 miles of hiking in the park and you can launch your own or rent a kayak from the ranger station to get on the water. We really enjoyed the short hiking options, especially the skinny boardwalk over the swampy areas. While kayaking, we saw a ton of birds and gators. We would definitely come back to this park, but we would try to find some activities in the area in addition to what’s offered in the park since the park is pretty small. Laundry is available at the bath house and the campground is conveniently located close to town for any shopping you’d need. We filled our propane tanks at Ace Hardware just a couple minutes away and loved having Earth Fare ten minutes up the road. Biggest bonus for us- cell service was fantastic for remote work on both Verizon (49Mbps download and 5Mbps upload) and AT&T (74Mbps download and 6Mbps upload).

The host was kind, and helpful. The campground was well maintained. The sites were rather close to each other, but separated by foliage. The bathrooms were very clean. My wife, and I enjoyed our walks around the campground! The “Great Oak Tree” was magnificent! A nice stopover.

Pros: Small and not crowded Great kayaking Nice boat launch and boat dock Saw baby gators, Barred owls, Red shouldered hawks Nice picnic areas and playground Mammoth oak tree Short but scenic nature walk (you can do about 2 miles) Clean bath house Shady campsites (not all but most are shady) Very friendly rangers and camp host Cons: There’s really only one. You’re right off a busy 8-lame highway so there’s lots of road noise and an unbelievable amount of siren action.
