The climate in Greece

Most of Greece has a Mediterranean climate, which is characterised by mild winters and dry, hot summers. Within the Köppe-Geiger climate system, this climate type is referred to as a Csa climate. In the higher regions of mainland Greece, the Peloponnese and the island of Crete, there are areas with a temperate Mediterranean climate (CSb climate). The interior of Crete has several areas of higher ground that have a different type of climate. Continental climates (Dsb and Dsc) can be found here and even a subarctic climate can occur in the highest places. In the higher parts of the interior, the winters can include periods of cold and winter precipitation. Most of Greece enjoys the predominantly warm weather caused by the Mediterranean climate. Greece therefore has rather long and warm summers, sometimes without rain for weeks on end. Especially the months of July and August are sunny on the Greek islands. It is not without reason that Greece is a very popular holiday destination during the summer holidays.
