A small grassed clearing in a gully by little Nash Creek, well shaded by Manna Gum, Peppermint, Stringybark and Blackwood with Tea-tree scrub and tree-fern understory. This is the most attractive, green, secluded (and now the only) camp ground in the Bunyip State Park. Rated 4.

A very large reserve (28ha) with dispersed sites shaded by a woodland of Yellow Gum (White Ironbark), Brown Stringybark and Long-leaved Box (Bundy) with a thin understory of wattles and some grass over gravel. There are 4 very dispersed fireplaces and tables, a couple well off the road.

This is one of the larger campgrounds in the Upper Big River State Forest, suitable for group camping and small caravans. This campground is one of the main (read popular) campgrounds in this area and can get quite busy during holidays.

A grassed creek flat surrounded by White Ironbark forest with a thin understudy of wattle and brush, wildflowers and old gold diggings with Grey Box and Red Ironbark on the flinty ridges. This a pleasant, quiet site in spring and autumn, although it may be hot and dusty in summer.

Dispersed, quiet, riverside bush camping under immature River Red Gum backed by stunted Black Box forests and saline scrubland. Limited number of level sites. River bank sandy, few beaches. Broad river height maintained by locks.

Western Beach is the main campground in Lake Albacutya Regional Park. Located above the Lake shoreline in open Black Box woodland with no understory, backed by cypress pine, buloke, mallee and heathland. Thousands of trees have been planted to save eroding dunes.

A pleasant, reasonably large site on grassed creek flats sloping down to the Lima East (Moonee Moonee or Black Charlie) Creek, surrounded by steep forested hills. Overlooked by the low use forestry road. Some shade is provided by scattered Narrow-leaved Peppermint, Mountain Ash and Blackwood wattle.

Unfortunately has been closed indefinitely. See notes here for more information. A pleasant, large, level, grassed (slashed) flat beside the bubbling Gaffneys Creek. Shaded by Alpine Ash, Peppermint, Blackwood and wattles. On the National Bicentennial Horse Trail although little sign of horses.

Beautiful little free camping area on the edge of the water in Lake Ratzcastle Lake Reserve. This is a seasonal lake so relies on recent rain to fill. The water attracts numerous birds and wildlife which make this a great spot to sit, relax and get the camera out.
Big Desert , Victoria
Remote campground in Big Dessert Wilderness Park with drop toilets, picnic tables and fire pits. The campground is mostly sand/dirt and has a little shade from the small trees throughout. It is surrounded by low mallee scrub, and has a great bush feel to it.
Thomastown , Victoria
Very pleasant,attractive, quiet bush camping in a small alpine valley on Shaws Creek. Sites well dispersed either side of the bridge. Adequate shade from Snow Gums over thick, short grass and wildflowers. Rated 4. 3/5 We keep returning to this camp.

A beautiful, peaceful sub-alpine camp overlooking a small, marshy snow plain (spring wildflowers), backed by forested ridge tops. Set in a forest reserve at 1,080m. Rated 4. 3/5. Magpies, rosellas, wombats and wallabies are common.
Eildon , Victoria
A reasonably large, level cleared circuit, surrounded by Peppermint forest with tea-tree understory above the rushing Taponga River. Short grass, well shaded. A pleasant camp, not as popular as other Lower Big River sites, probably as it is not on the Big River. Rated 4.
