Norong
Great little free camping area right on the Murray river. As with most campsites along his stretch of the Murray, there is an abundance of birdlife, as well as access to this iconic river. There are no defined sites, however there is plenty of shady grassed areas for pitching a tent.

Knockwood
Unfortunately has been closed indefinitely. See notes here for more information. A pleasant, large, level, grassed (slashed) flat beside the bubbling Gaffneys Creek. Shaded by Alpine Ash, Peppermint, Blackwood and wattles. On the National Bicentennial Horse Trail although little sign of horses.
Karnak
Beautiful little free camping area on the edge of the water in Lake Ratzcastle Lake Reserve. This is a seasonal lake so relies on recent rain to fill. The water attracts numerous birds and wildlife which make this a great spot to sit, relax and get the camera out.
Pleasant camping by an extended Murray River beach surrounded by River Red Gum flood plain forest and lagoons. Prolific bird life. Semi-dispersed sites are generally level with short grass and well shaded by River Red Gum saplings. Two pit toilets. Being handy to Cobram it is popular.
Big Desert
Remote campground in Big Dessert Wilderness Park with drop toilets, picnic tables and fire pits. The campground is mostly sand/dirt and has a little shade from the small trees throughout. It is surrounded by low mallee scrub, and has a great bush feel to it.
Emu Plains
Pleasant bush camping overlooking the Ovens River, well shaded by Manna Gum and wattle. A large reserve but there are only 2 dispersed sites, each with a BBQ, both visually secluded from the road by trees and distance, although there is some traffic noise.
Tullibigeal

NOTE: It appears camping is no longer permitted at this campground. It is now designated a picnic area. A clearing in open forest of Red Ironbark backed by a mixture of Yellow Gum (White Ironbark) and Grey Box with Whipstick mallee (blue, green, and bull mallees) on clay and rocky ground.

Pleasant overnight picnic area just off the Princess Highway, about 10km north of Narooma. Site and duration limited, overnight spot suitable for vehicle based camping, although tents are allowed. Level spots.
Thomastown
Very pleasant,attractive, quiet bush camping in a small alpine valley on Shaws Creek. Sites well dispersed either side of the bridge. Adequate shade from Snow Gums over thick, short grass and wildflowers. Rated 4. 3/5 We keep returning to this camp.

Eildon
A reasonably large, level cleared circuit, surrounded by Peppermint forest with tea-tree understory above the rushing Taponga River. Short grass, well shaded. A pleasant camp, not as popular as other Lower Big River sites, probably as it is not on the Big River. Rated 4.
