Buffeljagsrivier, Cape Overberg
South Africa

About The Gaia Sanctuary
The Gaia Sanctuary invites guests to visit our little slice of sanctuary, our very own heaven on earth, for a completely back-to-mother-earth experience, to leave your hectic city life behind and to come re-ground yourself and reconnect to nature and yourself, on our working farm. The river is perfect for swimming and fishing and canoes are available for hire. The Gaia Sanctuary is ideal for bird watching, star gazing and long walks. Holiday clubs and a childminding service are also available. The Gaia Sanctuary is an off-grid organic, working farm for nature lovers and eco-warriors, set along the banks of the Breede River, with breathtaking views of the Langeberg Mountain Range. Guests can book a lovely A-frame Cabin or a Bell Tent both of which share communal ablution facilities with showers and flushing toilets. There is a lovely, communal glamping deck which overlooks the river and is equipped with a gas cooker, sink, dining table and bar stools. Two braai areas and a fire pit are available, perfect for group gatherings. Please see the room descriptions and photographs below to assist you with your choice. • Braai facilities • Parking • Communal kitchen • Shared ablution facilities Pets are welcome by prior arrangement. The Greater Swellendam Farming Community includes the towns of Swellendam, Suurbraak, Barrydale, Buffeljagsrivier and Malgas. These towns have a colourful history steeped in trade and include sections of the Garden Route and R62. Stretching from the Klein Karoo, Langeberg Mountains and Wine Routes to the ocean at Koppie Alleen, each of our 'dorpies' has their own unique character, crafts and history to share. Swellendam is one of the biggest agricultural producing areas in South Africa, generating huge amounts of grain, Canola oil, meat and dairy as well as exporting citrus, berries, persimmons, wool and wine all over the world. Attractions include berry picking at The Berry Farm, go bird watching at the Bontebok National Park, take the children to Sulina Faerie Sanctuary, walk the Swellendam Hiking Trail, spend a few hours at the Drostdy Museum and liquor tasting at Wildebraam Berry Estate.
