Melville Caves Campground

3517, Brenanah
Victoria, Australia

Easily accessible campground about 1km from Melville Caves
Being at the end of a bitumen stretch and not too far from town, you occasionally get the odd yob out here, however it is a nice spot most of the time. There are rainwater tanks and large grassed and shady campsites. Thanks to Peter for the updates Situated on a broad ridge-top slope the camp ground consists of two large fenced areas containing informal sites, some grassed and shaded but all sloping. Partial shade is provided by scattered Box, Stringybark and wattle. Benches (4) are distant from BBQs (6). Rated 3.2/5 Popular with school groups. Potentially hot and dry in summer, exposed to winter winds. The nearby summit provides good views and the fissures allegedly provided shelter for bushrangers. The granitic soils foster a woodland of Box (Long-leaved, Yellow), Red Stringybark and Forest Red Gum with an understory of Black Wattle and shrubs. Surrounding the outcrop the sedimentary soils support Grey Box, Ironbark and yellow Gum intermingled with mallee. Wildflowers are plentiful and varied - best in spring. Bird life is plentiful and varied, included White and Major Mitchell cockatoos Thanks to Thanks to SingleMumCamping for the following updates. My experience at Melville Caves was a quick overnighter in the swag with a mate. Brought the dogs with me and had a great night. Atmosphere on the campground was peaceful and pleasant, facilities were clean and tidy and park information was plenty. The walking tracks were tough, but great fun!
