Jackass Ferngully Campground

3304, Drumborg
Victoria, Australia

One of the most attractive, green picnic and camping areas in the district.
Was in the middle of the Cobboboonee State Forest, now the Cobboboonee National Park Shaded by Messmate Stringybark (E. obliqua) and surrounded by a dense understory of musk. The reasonably large clearing has short grass but most sites slope. Bird life prolific. Horse yard nearby. Pit toilets Rating 4.2 The adjacent gully of the small Fitzroy River has an upperstory of Blackwood and Hazel Pomaderris with an understory of Paperbark, creepers, tree ferns, fishbone fern, madden hair fern and many others near the western edge of their range. Kangaroos and emus are common in the surrounding forest. Walkers avail themselves of numerous tracks, including the Great South West Walk, which passes through this camp from Portland to Nelson. Jackass Fern Gully Walk: 1k 0.5h return, easy, with viewing platform over ferns. Equestrians can explore the 60 km of trails that make up the Great Cobboboonee Horse Trail.
